Per ESPN: What Bills Logo should look like
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to goynahan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently ESPN has leaked soem proposed logo changes for next year, including the Bill's new look. A couple of them are a bit puzzling, particually Green Bay and Dallas?? http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=nfl -
I hate Rodney Harrison
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mr. ChumChums's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Harrison has made a number of rather sharp comments at former players. I hope he doesn't have any plans for a comeback next year. -

I'd even go one step further and say get rig of Guy and DJ. In totdays NFL, I really think having a busness sense is just as important and the football side. All John Butler wanted to do was over pay everyone as he loved everyone. -
You're also playing with four starters out, and the youngest Oline in the league. Your reasons for firing him 0-8 division, etc are valid to fire him generally speaking, but not valid because he loses to Miami. For the reasons you mention ,he should have been fired in the off season, but he wasn't so no reason to fire him mid season.

Yes he fired Bulter a week prior to last game of the season when his contract was about to run out, but lets not let facts get in the way of things. -

So where have other teams spent this money on 1st round QB's and the Bill's haven't? As was mentioned already Johnson, Losman, and someone mentioned a third one the Bills signed, that I'm forgetting the name of. On the other hand look at NE, Dallas. Neither of those guys were first rounders. What was Montana, a 4th rounder. You mention Ryan and Flaco, neither of which was a high profile signing. Look at all the high 1st round failures. Ryan Leaf, Jeff George, Vince Young to name a few. Cinn has had a handful alone! For every successful 1st round QB you can come up, there are likely two to three failures. Signing a 1st round QB means nothing towards success. -

Before they ever changed this rule allowing you to defer, whenever the coin toss was done, I'd always root for the Bills to lose the toss as I like the idea of playing D first. If you don't score big momentum killer for the game. -
Jauron could be gone in 3 more games

I'd be surprised if he's let go before the end of the season. 15 years ago, firing coaches in mid season was the norm. Today very few seem to be set go then. I think the problem is you may end up having to wait till year end anyway to get the person you want. Lets say the Bills fire DJ, who do they make head coach. I've ofte nheard Bobbie Aprils name mentioned, but is he really the person yopu want as next head coach. He's done great with special teams, but that doesn't make hi ma good head coach. Yes you can make him the interum, but then he goes and wins a few games, makes it tough then to not keep him. As far as not gettign fired last year after 2-8. RW just signed him to a 3 year extension, so didn't want to eat all three years. At least after this year, he'd be dow nto only two. -
4:00 start time again?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dickleyjones's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
CBS has the doubleheader this week. So on CBS you'll have the early regional games, plus the national game which this week is for most of the country Pitt @ Cinn. Fox gets to show one game, mostly early games. However in cities like Jax, Tenn, and whomever else has an early game on CBS, rather than have the FOX game going up against it, they get to instead choose a late FOX game. Well there's only one west coast NFC road team playing, Chi@ Sea so Fox then needs to move some other normal early start game to late so there are two games to pick as they always want to have a minimum of two games to choose between. Since most people will watch the CBS Pitt @ Cinn. game, Fox isn't going to move one of their better early games like Atl @ NE, TB @ NYG, or Wash to late. So the least likely watched game was the Buffalo game and that one got moved to 4:00 The only other possible choices were GB @ Stl or Wash @ Det, but Wash has better rating than Buffalo or Tampa, so Bills NO lose out. -
I also live in NC and have the same problem. Wilmington here!

Actually he got injured in about early Dec, so more like a quarter of the year. It just seemed half the year as you hardly ever saw him playing. Having said that, it takes awhile for receivers to develop, so I still have faith he could become very good. Don't know for certain, but am not ready to give up. Many "experts" here on the board will tell you he's no good and never will be. They may look to be very smart as there are way for failures than success stories in the NFL. Actually I've always said, if you created a post for every player on the team, (and every team in the NFL if you want) stating that the player sucks, you'll look pretty smart as many more failures. If you do it just for QB's will look really smart as the % of failures goes way up there for QB position. -
Agreed, players do gwt fired up, but that also includes the Pats, and they are likely fired up even more than the Jet players are by these comments. Every team/coach will privately make these types of comments to fire up their own players. So the Jet players likely were already convinced by Ryan they'd win this game. Now thanks to Ryan the Pat players also have a reaso nto be fired up.

1.You're right, he's the best since Kelly, but that's not saying much. I like TE, think he'll get better, maybe if the line improves more so he has more time, he'll learn to throw down field. He is still young. 2. Agree, looked better than we expected. 3. This can't be everyone knows what a terrible GM RB is. It does show that all the experts around this site really know very little about what and who are good players. The Bill's made many moves that got them ripped. But in the end, none of them looked too bad. If they had made the moved a month ago, would they be better today, probalby, but who knows for certain. You don't want to rush int othings either. 4. Agree

"He's terrible at game day decisions and hasn't got better in years." I live in Carolina, and that's what they are saying down here about John Fox.

Yes it is her job, but if he wants to blow her off, that's fine too, he has that right. Considering the emotion of the moment, I don't have a problem with him and I also thought she came out of the situation looking dumber than he did. -
Could AVP be the next Jason Garrett?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two seasons ago agreed completly, but now I think much of the lusture has worn off of Garrett. Alot of the blame for the Coyboys problems are on offense, which Garrett has been in charge of. So again I'm not so sure JJ is still in love with him -
Langston Walker....this is what Ralph SHOULD do

Or is it a case of RB and/or DJ wanted to get rid of Turk at the end of last season, but RW wouldn't eat the contract. Finally he had enough and said OK to dumping him. I agree with other poster, give RB a chance. In todays NFL being business smart is more important. You can get people with the football and scouting experience. These moves have little to do with football smarts anyway. Maybe RB is finally being allowed to make the changes he wants. Maybe DJ will be next followed by John Guy -
But is it DJ or was it RW not wanting to fire these people and eat their contracts. Things then got worse so RW had no other choice. As far as LW, I have no problem with Bell at LT, just wish he had played all of training camp there instead of making the move now. LW wasn't a bad right tackle either so if you had left him on the right side and Butler at guard, the entire line I think would have been better. That I'll blaim on DJ, but not thr firings, that's on Ralph Havign said all that, I doubt things will be nearly as bad as everyone is thinking. The coahes obvioiusly saw LW ability at LT and felt going with someone brand new was the better option.

What is Brandon done that is so bad?? In todays NFL you need someone who is buisness smart, maybe even more than football smart as you can bring people in like Modrak etc, to make the player decisions for you. Yuo can debate whether Modrak is or isn't the right person, but you can still have football people under him making those types of decisions. Having someone else over them keeps them in check more. Personally I think Brandon has done a better job than John Butler as Bulter's problem was he was a scout foremost and loved every player he ever say, never had anything bad to say about anyone, AND way overpaid for talent. I recall Bruce Smiths last contract at the time was way overboard for someone his age.
-
It's kind of funny how everone is ripping Modrak yet two days ago I read posts stating how this is our best draft ever. So which is it?? Maybe the truth is this is a good draft as Modrak didn't have anyone else making the final decisions for him. Maybe he didn't want Whitner, but Marv did, so TM lost out on the final say. This time no one else but him making the picks, or at least at a minimum he had a much bigger say. On the other hand totally agree that John Guy has been terrible. Yes but you have many people here arguing how Kelly should be the QB coach, same thing a person with no experience in a job but was a hall of fame player. The one thing Kelly was often called was a "gunslinger" Why would you want a gunslinger as a coach?? Doesn't sound like a good approach to me!
-
I think it does matter. How many hall of fame players are successful coaches? Name me five! If you can't then background does appear to matter. The way most people become head coaches is they start out as a position coach, then become coordinator, then eventually a head coach. Often the person who was a good position or coordinator doesn't work out as a head coach, at least not the first time. Background completely matters, however it doesn't mean everyone who follows this path turns out to be a good coach. But all the coaches do follow this path. I don't recall any who came from Wall Street or was a former CEO. The head coach needs to be able to hire people who will be good assistants, which likely is a trait you develop in your years as an assistant, seeing what coaches work well and what type of things coaches do doesn't work. Just as the coach needs to motivate players, they also need to motivate other coaches. Lead by example.
-
Absolutely agree, he wants to be there on game day, but does he want to put in 10 to 15 hours a day Monday thru Saturday also? Plus many hours. weeks in offseason. Thats why he's interested in potentially owning the team as then he can high five the players on game day and relax the other six days. As I stated earlier, name me some hall of fame type players who have become successful coaches?? It doesn't happen. They don't want to make the committment for the low return financially, but they still enjoy the thrill of winning so do like being on the sideline and being part of the game.
-
Name me 5 superstar hall of fame type players who have taken jobs as coaches. Then name me two of them who have been highly sucessful as a coach. The one you could argue is Mike Singletary, though he certainly has not had any success to date as a coach unless you count making headlines for bizarre behaviour. I'd even go as far as to say the things he's done to date is typical of why highly successful players don't make good coaches. While he is a hall of famer, I don't think he was anywhere near the limelight that a guy like Kelly was at either. Successful players typcially make poor coaches because either things came too easy for them, and they can't relate to players who can't perfome at top levels, or they are the opposite type who worked extra hard for everything, then can't handle players who don't give 110% every minute of every game/practice/ meeting/ etc. On the other hand backups often saw the game through a coaches eyes on the sideline. Things didn't come easy for them and can relate better to others as they don't have an attitude that stars often have. Besides which people who are set for life with money aren't willing to put in the hours needed to coach.
-
But only IF he's willing to put in the same effort as every other coach on the staff is putting in. First off I doubt Kelly would want to do that. JK has been out of football for what close to ten years. If he hasn't got into coaching yet, why would he now?
