  1. Can't recall where I heard this, online or on the radio, but there is like only one coach ever to win a Super Bowl that was older than 50 years old. That goes along with the re-tread concept as most of these guys after having success with their first team, by the time they make it to their second team, they are already over 50. Hence never win it again. Essentially the point of this was coaching is a young mans game. So what's the secret, have a good group of scouts and front office that signs good players so the young coach can develop and win.
  2. Oh god here we go again!! Why would a perso nwho doesn't need to money want to give up all his free time to coach? Peopel argue how interested Jim is how he comes to al lthe games. I'd come to the games to if I could stand on the sideline and eat and drink in the Jim Kelly suite for free. Kelly also is not exactly known to be a rocket scientist either. Jim could make a good potential owner, but to argue that he's done anything to prove he'd be a good coach is ridiculious. How can I say that, casue he's never coached a day in his life, so h'e shown nothign as a coach. And now you want him to be the next coach. Actually if I had to choose between Kelly and DJ I'd take DJ.
  3. The problem with special teams is BA is working with too many new players, particually after all the injuries. That's one of the things I've read and heard over the years. Speical teams these days is much harder to be good as there's too much roster turnover from year to year. Last years special team players either left to get a shot at a starting job with another team, or they are now your own starters replacing someone else who left. Even though that kept happening to the Bill's every year, BA somehow seemed to overcome it. I think this year it's finally caught up to him. In the old days, pre-free agency your special team players were around for many years, Mark Pike Steve Tasker, etc. In todays NFL how many people think Tasker would have spent his entire career in Buffalo?
  4. I can't decide if you're being serious or sarcastic, but either way, I do agree with your comments and RW would be correct in statrng that. RW has as much Al Davis in him as does Jerry Jones, Snyder, and a host of others. The difference is they have better financial situations to work within. RW absolutely wants to win. But he's not will to spend as much money as others are to get there. What would happen if RW rasied season ticket prices by $50 per game to be more inline with other teams, how many could afford it and how many would pay it?
  5. People keep saying we need a football guy in charge. That's only good if that person knows what they are doing. What if three years ago RW put a "football guy" in charge like John Guy. Would we be better today? As was earlier stated, very likely football decisions; who to draft, what free agents to sign are made by TM and JG respectively. RB probably will give the final approval, or if there's a asplit decision, may weigh in or get the opinion of others. But I highly doubt he's making very many football decisions. A number of posters have also commented what a great draft we had this past spring. Now everyone is ripping TM. Which is it, did TM have a good draft or not?? The same person now we want ot run out of town. Actually I think TM has done alright with his drafts, maybe not great where as JG has been horrific. I kind of like having a non-football person over seeing everything as he's less likely to have some pre-concieved opinion and likely will listen more to input from others. Is it bad that a non football guy is giving the final approval as I suggest? Only if the reccommendations he's given are bad. Would a football person be in a better position to know he's being given bad advice? Yes absolutely, but if a football person were in charge, the people under him like TM and JG are most likely going to be giving advice that they know will be accepted by the boss. Just like any company, they become the bosses "Yes men" TM and JG were both reporting to a football man in TD, how's those years work out. Having said all that, it's very likely that if the Bills were to bring in a football person, that new person would become the GM and RB may become the president. RW claimed that after TD, the problem was he let one person have too much power, and he wouldn't repeat that mistake. Well having RB be the president and someone else GM still leaves some checks and balances in the system.
  6. If the Brown family in Cinn never got suspended, RW is no where close to how things were there. New Orleans was terrible for a long time as was Indy and NE
  7. Based on prior years, the trade deadline is either sometime this week or at the latest mid next week. It usually hase been aroundthe 17th or so every other year.
  8. So what. What if we had a real football guy like Modrak or John Guy as the GM, would that make us better. If a football guy is ultimately overall in chage, then he's going to make all the final decisiions with no one to justify it to. IF you have a really good one then no problems, But if he's not one of the half dozen or so top notch ones, I think it's better having someone else as "tie breaker" If the Bills were to bring in a Cowler type, then I don't think he'd answer to RB anyway, but still would have no problems with RB as the president. Personally I have little problems with the job he's done. The problem has been with the decision making of the football men. And I agre that if RB was a football person then as GM he'd be making those decisions instead. But again that's only good if he's good.
  9. I agree particually about Guy. Modrak has done a little better, but guy's free agents pickup have been horrific. I'd have no problem making RB president either, and let him be the tie breaker.
  10. I'll tell you one thing, there's alot worse things spilled in the stadium parking lot. On another note, one time I went on a bus trip to a Bills game. There was problem with the bus company so we ended up with two of these airport type shuttle busses, but only one with a toilet. Well since the bus is half the size, the toilet is sized appropriately. But still had 45 people or so using it. By the time the game ended, it was full within 1/2 inch of the top, and no longer usable. On the way back from the game, the driver pulled over on 219, the second bus pulled up behind to kind of shield the view from passing cars. Driver got out and pulled the cork. Imagine finding that on the side of the road. People probalby were reporting big foot was in the area. PS Enjoy the turkey!!
  11. I guess I don't understand why everyone thinks it so important to have a "fooball mind" as the GM. What if that football mind was Modrak or John Guy, would that be better. Yeah it's great if you can pick a good GM, then again RB would look like a genius if everyone of Guy's and Modraks picks were to work out. You can argue that if RB was a football mind then he'd know whether Guy and Modrak's suggestions were good or not and that's true. But in reality if a football mind is in the top position, then he's going to pick the player he thinks are best. So again it just goes ina big circle and comes back to if they guy making the choice in players picks the right ones everyone else looks great too. If not regardless of what position he's in, everyone else also looks bad.
  12. Apparently ESPN has leaked soem proposed logo changes for next year, including the Bill's new look. A couple of them are a bit puzzling, particually Green Bay and Dallas?? http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=nfl
  13. Harrison has made a number of rather sharp comments at former players. I hope he doesn't have any plans for a comeback next year.
  14. I'd even go one step further and say get rig of Guy and DJ. In totdays NFL, I really think having a busness sense is just as important and the football side. All John Butler wanted to do was over pay everyone as he loved everyone.
  15. You're also playing with four starters out, and the youngest Oline in the league. Your reasons for firing him 0-8 division, etc are valid to fire him generally speaking, but not valid because he loses to Miami. For the reasons you mention ,he should have been fired in the off season, but he wasn't so no reason to fire him mid season.
  16. Yes he fired Bulter a week prior to last game of the season when his contract was about to run out, but lets not let facts get in the way of things.
  17. So where have other teams spent this money on 1st round QB's and the Bill's haven't? As was mentioned already Johnson, Losman, and someone mentioned a third one the Bills signed, that I'm forgetting the name of. On the other hand look at NE, Dallas. Neither of those guys were first rounders. What was Montana, a 4th rounder. You mention Ryan and Flaco, neither of which was a high profile signing. Look at all the high 1st round failures. Ryan Leaf, Jeff George, Vince Young to name a few. Cinn has had a handful alone! For every successful 1st round QB you can come up, there are likely two to three failures. Signing a 1st round QB means nothing towards success.
  18. Before they ever changed this rule allowing you to defer, whenever the coin toss was done, I'd always root for the Bills to lose the toss as I like the idea of playing D first. If you don't score big momentum killer for the game.
  19. I'd be surprised if he's let go before the end of the season. 15 years ago, firing coaches in mid season was the norm. Today very few seem to be set go then. I think the problem is you may end up having to wait till year end anyway to get the person you want. Lets say the Bills fire DJ, who do they make head coach. I've ofte nheard Bobbie Aprils name mentioned, but is he really the person yopu want as next head coach. He's done great with special teams, but that doesn't make hi ma good head coach. Yes you can make him the interum, but then he goes and wins a few games, makes it tough then to not keep him. As far as not gettign fired last year after 2-8. RW just signed him to a 3 year extension, so didn't want to eat all three years. At least after this year, he'd be dow nto only two.
  20. CBS has the doubleheader this week. So on CBS you'll have the early regional games, plus the national game which this week is for most of the country Pitt @ Cinn. Fox gets to show one game, mostly early games. However in cities like Jax, Tenn, and whomever else has an early game on CBS, rather than have the FOX game going up against it, they get to instead choose a late FOX game. Well there's only one west coast NFC road team playing, Chi@ Sea so Fox then needs to move some other normal early start game to late so there are two games to pick as they always want to have a minimum of two games to choose between. Since most people will watch the CBS Pitt @ Cinn. game, Fox isn't going to move one of their better early games like Atl @ NE, TB @ NYG, or Wash to late. So the least likely watched game was the Buffalo game and that one got moved to 4:00 The only other possible choices were GB @ Stl or Wash @ Det, but Wash has better rating than Buffalo or Tampa, so Bills NO lose out.
  21. I also live in NC and have the same problem. Wilmington here!
  22. Actually he got injured in about early Dec, so more like a quarter of the year. It just seemed half the year as you hardly ever saw him playing. Having said that, it takes awhile for receivers to develop, so I still have faith he could become very good. Don't know for certain, but am not ready to give up. Many "experts" here on the board will tell you he's no good and never will be. They may look to be very smart as there are way for failures than success stories in the NFL. Actually I've always said, if you created a post for every player on the team, (and every team in the NFL if you want) stating that the player sucks, you'll look pretty smart as many more failures. If you do it just for QB's will look really smart as the % of failures goes way up there for QB position.
  23. Agreed, players do gwt fired up, but that also includes the Pats, and they are likely fired up even more than the Jet players are by these comments. Every team/coach will privately make these types of comments to fire up their own players. So the Jet players likely were already convinced by Ryan they'd win this game. Now thanks to Ryan the Pat players also have a reaso nto be fired up.
  24. CBS has the doubleheader this week. So on CBS you'll have the early regional games, plus the national game which this week is for most of the country Chi @ Pitt. However in cities like NY, Tenn, and whomever else is hosting an early game on CBS, rather than have the FOX game going up against it, they get to instead choose a late FOX game. Well there's only one west coast NFC road team playing, Sea @ SF so Fox then needs to move some other normal early start game to late so there are two games to pick as they always want to have a minimum of two games to choose between. Since most people will watch the CBS Chi @ Pitt game, Fox isn't going to move one of their better early games like Atl @ Car, NO @ Phi, or the Arizona game (Super Bowl team) to late. So the least likely watched game was the Buffalo game and that one got moved to 4:00 The only other possible choice was St Louis @ Wash, but Wash has better rating than Buffalo or Tampa, so Bills Tampa lose out.
