  1. If he were progressing, it's unlikely there would have been a need for a change. It likely would take more than four weeks, plus you typically sign players to play a certain offense, again something that's done in off season. At this point, AVP was the best option for them.
  2. I'm thinking the Bills will bring a running back from some other team that was cut. Then when Lynch comes back that will be the person cut. So who is cut now to bring in the extra RB?? My guess would be Florence the DB. It likely would be much cheaper for them to sign some player that was just cut than it was to keep Rhodes as was mentioned in the one article,
  3. So to all these people who think JK can be the QB coach and go home after 9 or 10 hours while the other coaches all stay for 14 hours or so. No one thinks that will be a problem. I assume he'll get away with it casue he's Jim Kelly. I don't think so! That will cause many problems. Can JK actually coach?? Yes agree, young players might enjoy hearing JK's war stories on the plane going to a road game or sitting around a table at the Big Tree Inn on a Tuesday at lunch. But that's as far as it goes. Star players made way too much money to ever get serious about coaching/ JK was never exactly known to be al lthat smart either which is needed to get int coaching. Motivation lasts about a month, then you need to show results
  4. I have no idea how AVP will do as as coach, but the Bills are no different than many teams in the league in hiring ex-players who want to get into coaching. Thats the way things are in the NFL. Most ex-players either get their first job with the team they played for, or if one of their coaches when they played are now with another team, they may go there. As a few ex Bill's have got jobs with Indy, no doubt with some help from Bill Polian. Often these players were backups or low paid starters as anyone who made alot of money as a player likely doesn't want to get into the long hours of coaching. A 3rd sting QB also has a better idea how a game is called than a starter would, so again no problem threr with me. What starting QBs became good coaches? I can't recall any since Bart Starr, and he wasn't a very good coach anyway.
  5. If I recall correctly RW got rid of him just prior to the last game of the seaosn and officially his contract expired Feb 1st, but for all practical purposes he was done in another wee kanyways as Jan not a whole lot is done other than review of players performance and start planning for next year.
  6. I don't know. 9pm pacific or midnight on the east coast coincidently is just a little after the ending of the Sunday night game. It seems logical to me that the NFL wouldn't want anyone watching this package while live games are still being aired as the sponsors want everyone watching their games. So my guess is all the games regardless of whether they started at 1 or 4 will only be after midnight, or maybe after the Sunday night game ends. For $40 I'm still going to do it, but I'll be shocked if anything is available prior to midnight.
  7. Typically 3rd string QBs are the coaches as the starters made too much money to now need go through the long hours needed for coaching. Also for many of these stars, things come too easy and can't relate well to players of less talent. The 3rd string QB also usually got a much better perspective of coaching as watched the game form the sideline. I'm not saying AVB is a good or bad coach, but him being a third stringer is typical of many coaches. What star players are now coaching in the league? Very few as most coaches are backups who lasted a few seasons in the league. Kelly was never exactly rumored to be a rocket scientist either. To coach you do need some smarts, can't do it on emotion. If you could Carl Mauck would stil lbe here.
  8. So if you had this last year, how long did it take to watch the entire replay of the game without the commercials? Were they only available after midnight EST?
  9. Not sure what you do for a living, but if you change jobs anytime in the future, you better hope your new boss doesn't read your posts or he may get the idea to fire you if you're not up to speed and doing as well if not better than everyone else within say maybe one month. You had better know everything there is to know if you hope to keep your job.
  10. Yes it likely will effect his chances at starting this season. Likely the only way he starts this season is due to injuries of others. But if his missing three weeks of camp this year still has him behind the vets in three seasons, then he was and will always be a bust. The vets understand how the system works and will in no way hold things against him. The more rookies escalate salaries, the more down the road in will also increase the salaries for the vets when they renew their contracts, so in no way will they be upset. Likely they get more upset when players give "home town discounts" as that hurts others. I think your original comment is still correct. While it may be true that it would be really dumb for Mike to do, that is who he is, acting on emotions without really thinking things out, so wouldn't surprise me if he does react that way.
  11. Was listing to John Clayton this evening on ESPN radio and according to him Maybin will be signing within the next 24 to 48 hours. According to Clayton all #1 picks are close to signing (even Crabtree) with the exception of Smith If true, Clayton is the man, the guy with the inside info. If wrong he always was and still is an idiot!! No other info on my part, just reporting what Clayton stated.
  12. In the 2nd of the four SB years for the Bills, the year they played Washington in the SB. The year prior in their first SB loss, the last few games they used the no-huddle. The next season they started the year out using it and initially were unstopable, that was the year of the San Fran no punt game. About 10 weeks into the season John Davis blew out his knee, forget who filled in for him, but after that the no-huddle was never the same or as good. I always felt if Davis hadn't got hurt, they may have won that years SB. The next few years, they still ran the no-huddle, but never came close to those first ten weeks. Probably also helped that other teams figured it out too, but Davis made a big difference.
  13. About five years ago I cancelled cable and RR and went with DTV and DSL phone for internet. I would have kept RR but once I canceled the cable, they were going to raise my RR price and they wouldn't budge on the cost. Went with DSL for about 2-3 months service was terrible. It was so bad finally the phone compnay gave up, couldn't figure out why or how to fix the problems, so they gave me all my money back, all the way back to day 1 of my service and told me sorry, sometimes they can't explain or correct why one person can have great service and the houce across the street can be terrible. So now had to go backto RR with basically my tail between my legs. What does RR do, they offer me a discount as a new subscriber which was lower even than I was paying to start with. If they had done that from the beginning, never would have left. so then when my intro price period ended, I called them up this time and told them I didn't want to go through what happened the last time, but if they didn't lower my bill, I'd go back to DSL (Even though no way I really would have based on past issues). So they gave me a price about the same as DSL.
  14. I live in Wilmington NC and there's a place here that sells beef on Weck. I've had one a couple times and they're pretty good. He bakes his own kimmelweck rolls right in the place. From what I've heard, the guy is from Buffalo. He also sells, Haddock Fish Frys. Unfortuantely no wings or Salaens hot dogs. Things I miss down here are wings. I lived in Rochester things I miss; Carbone's wings, Dinosaur Bar_B-Que, and whenever I'd get to Buffalo, Ted's hot's and their onion rings.
  15. You're probably right with regards to last season, however if you look at the year prior, Peters was the best. Getting a 1st round pick for someone who didn't appear to want to play here and made what many will argue were crazy contract demands, the Bills did the best they could with the deal. But I do agree with TG it's not likely that either tackle this year will be a better player than JP. The pick we used could be come an all-pro which again could make the Bill's look smart. But until that happens, and even then unless JP also continues to play like he did in 2008, there's a good chance TG will be correct.
  16. So do you want to trade Lee Evans and/or Donte Whitner?? Or were you thinking of Ko Simpson and maybe Parrish, though many people here will argue that we shouldn't even get rid of him. My point is while I agee we do have what appears to be a surplus at the positions you mention, unless you're willing to give up somebody good, you're just going to get someone else's junk in return. There's very few trades made in the NFL particually player for player. You'll see teams unload someone like a Parrish in return for maybe a 4th rounder. Even free agents if you look at the top teams very few of them do much more than fill a few holes with free agents and often the holes are for a capable backup. The draft is where they build the teams from. Football of all sports takes the most practice, signing someone now they've already missed all the mini camps, so will be tougher for that person to contribute. I'd guess at this point, unless some team is giving up a superstar pro-bowl type player, it's very likely the players on the Bill's roster today, barring injury will give the team more than signing some other teams scrap players.
  17. The other thing to like about Reed this year is he'll be playing in his more natural position, the slot. The first year he was here when they had Price at the #2, Reed played much better from the slot. I'd expect the same this year. Additionally he is a very good blocker, which again from the slot likely is even better. If we have someone better, great then play that person, but Reed from the slot I think wil lbe hard to beat!
  18. Since the last ime it was named for the tight end, how about D-2 as in Derek Squared! Or we could come up with some "tight end" jokes!
  19. Hey, look how Greg Norman and Chris Evert got together. I think it's more a factor of the circles that these people tend to travel in. And none of us are invited to even see the circle.
  20. There's also a whole lot of rules about who can sign FA etc, It's not as good as you think it would look for the players. Only teams that lose FA can sign one or something like that. Top rated teams can't sign as many players as lower ranked teams, Whole bunch of rules, so doubt players would be too in favor of this either.
  21. Wasn't aware he also bankrolled Sullivan too. I knew he gave money to Big Al.
  22. Has RW stated who'll be presenting him? My guess would be Marv, unless he wants to go back to the old AFL days, then maybe Al Davis. He and Polian have buried the hacket for the most part, maybe BP?? JP likely will be available on that date. Probably a bad questions to be asking as I'm sure there will be many sacastic (and comic) responses!
  23. Unfortunately for him it's the only job/offer he seems to have got. I recall when he first came on the air in Rochester i nearly 90's, he was labeled as a short timer, before he was on ESPN or something at that level. Instead over the years he has slowly progressed downhill. I think he read too many of his press clipping and that has done him in.
  24. I agree totally, but I also think at this point you don't know enough about either Derek to grade them, so really no easy way to compare unless there's someone who you feel is much better than 4th rounder and you're shocked is still there. Else go for best player.
  25. At this point, why bother?, You currently have a player who was 4th round rookie last year (Derek Fine) and hurt most of the year and a guy with two years exp (Derek Schoman) who not sure what round he was drafted or by who. Neither of those players have been around long enough to know how good they might be. Unless you get lucky anyone you get at this point likely isn't going to be better than the current players, so I think you're better going with best player available and maybe pick up another FA tight end someplace rather than "waste" and I use that term loosely another pick. Usually after the draft there's a bunch of more signings, maybe you get one there or a training camp cut from soneone. I also would be fine with a trade with some team, but I see no need in drafting one at this point . You can't keep chasing draft picks every year and right away give up on whom you already have. That's the long term secret to failure! But wherever they may get another TE from, just make sure his first name is Derek!
