The PR effort begins anew
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well then you could make the same argument that if TE was on a team with better coaches, you'd see more from him too. You're right he did regress, but only because he started his 2nd year playing much better than most expected. I wouldn't call that regressed. He also has played much better at many times to give up on him. Is he the answer, I don't know, but I do know at times he's looked great , played as well as maybe the top 10 QB's in the league. While JP has show promise at times, (though not at al lthis season) I can't recall JP ever looking like a top QB, just more a case where IF he kept improving he might become good. I alo am a person who at the time was lobbying for JP, but have given up. I also do see TE doing many things than JP never did. Is weather a concern with TE, yes, but certianly not anywhere near ready to give up on him yet. -
How many Losses this Season
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to murra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More money in being a Senator in Ill.....Oh wait that's Governour. -
At the beginning of this season, I'd have agreed, but now, I will be surprised if he goes int ocamp anything more than a #3. But wit ha little luck and some injuries, not to say by year end, he could be playing. And watch he'll come back and beat Buffalo by throwing a fade into the endzone late in the game.

Going into the season, based on what JP has shown, I thought he was alright as a backup. How many teams have better backups based on JP's 2007 stats? If you had money to spend there were more important places to spend it too. I also thought ihs play in the Arizona game was OK for a backup. But the past 2 1/2 games, he's been horrendous. Is it because he doesn't care? I have trouble believing that as he himself stated, these games were for resume building. Not sure what the problem is, but yes in hindsight, keeping him was a mistake, but at the time, didn't seem that bad of a decision.

JP was/is a good guy, just not good at what he's being paid to do. QB! While some are arguing why did we keep him this year as a #2 , he could have demanded a release and/or trade, but again he was willing to play out his contract. In fairness, he did play well enough last year to justify bringing him back as the #2. Many here argued he should have been starting when TE struggled. But what he has done this year on the field, I don't think even the biggest JP critique(sp) could have imagined him playing as bad as he has. I wouldn't surprise me to see him out of football next year. Though there was room for Rob Johnson, so anything is possible

Since when do we have this "weak interior line"
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone keeps saying that, but the only time the line has looked good is when Butler is playing. I wouldn't be too quick to replace him. I will say, while our pass blocking has been good, our run blocking is still not as good as you'd hope. -
Just for HA HA's Lets go Back to the 2006 Draft
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well the way JP was playing at the end of the 06 season, there was no need to draft another QB in the 1st round. At the end of 2006, JP appeared to be coming on and improving. Since it did make sense to pick a QB in a later round, the TE pick was smart. Then 2007 starts, JP goes backwards, TE looked decent in pre-seaosn, coupled with JP's injury, opened the door for TE. And he we are. Who was our #2 QB in 05 Holcomb? -
The main reason Dick Jauron will be fired...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats an interesting thought, though I believe he could refuse any job other than coach as that is what he signed a contract to do (assuming it is signed). I do think DJ would be the type of guy who'd agree to it though, so will see, but I will be surprised if he is back. I agree wit hanother post, RW does want to win as muc has any owner in the legue, he just isn't willing to pay for it as easily as other will. But will see what happens. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't say the line has looked great, but I do agree that will all the starters in it hasn't been too bad. I also agree that no center in round #1 if for no other reason, centers usually don't value a #1 pick. 2nd or 3rd round I'm fine with it, or wouldn't mind picking up a free agent center as would more likely be usable right away. I would keep Preston as a back up along with Chambers, that rookie, Bell is it, was supposed to look pretty good. Maybe pick up one other backup interior reserve, plus a center 2nd round or later (or FA) and I'm OK with that. -
Where's the dishonesty? The Bills haven't stated anything specific, that doesn't make it dishonest. The problem with everything around here, same with DJ's extension is, fan's seem to think it's their right to know everything that's going on, that the Bill's are obligated to tell all about everything when it's in their best interest to state nothing. You can argue that we're the ones buying the tickets, but it's no difference than when you go buy a piece of software from Microsoft, that doesn't give you the right to know everything they are doing in research, or if you stay in a hotel, demand to know their cleaning processes of the rooms. You do have a choice, don't support the product, but you don't have any rights to be told more than the Bill's wish to tell you. I do realize that the less they tell you leads to more speculation, but that's all it is, pure speculation and nothing more.

The main reason Dick Jauron will be fired...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My bet is he's fired extension or not. Assuming he signed an extension worth $2mil per year, assume an average ticket price of $60 each, that equals 33000 tickets per season or jus over 4000 per game. As has been mentioned, RW may be cheap, but not dumb. I also think RB will warn him that he'll easily lose that in ticket sales if he does nothing. Everyone is assuming RW is cheap based on prior coaching choices. However when you consider the past two people hiring the past three coaches, you have to question who's idea was it, RW or the gm? From everything stated TD didn't want to hire a big name coach who could upstage him, so he went both times with a no-name and as a bonus came with low pay. Marv wanted someone he could talk to and wasn't going to get into any shouting matches with him, and things along those lines (i.e. no Jimmy Johnson or even a Brian Billick type), so again selected a low key guy without a large ego, which usally means lower pay too. On one hand it wouldn't shock me to see RW again go cheap, but maybe he is willing to take one last shot at going out on top. The other thing that Miami could show him is it doesn't take years to turn it around. I don't think many here would disagree that right now the Bill's have more talant than Miami did last year at this point, and look how quick they moved on top. I don't think RW is nearly as bad as many here make him out to be and does want to win. -
Most likely senerio
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In todays NFL, how many QB's make it rhough a year without any injury time. I'll bet less than half. It's also possible had these games meant something he might be playing through it right now. I do agree there is reason for concern regarding injuries and playing ability. But at this point, I'm more interested ot see if he can really play. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually TD was the president, big difference. RW could stil lbe the president, or he makes Brandon president, this way not all the power with one person. Or the new guys is VP of football operations and Brnadon is VP of business operations?? -
To say they are honoring it could simply mean they are not going to try to pull an Al Davis or a RW (see Wade Phillips) and pay him for the next two years but still fire him. Unles they clearly have told DJ he's not coming back, what else could they say.

An Alternate Theory on Jauron's "Extension"

I'd rather see John Guy get the boot first before Modrak -
Jauron will get fired, right? RIGHT?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to deep2evans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was interesting on the pre-game coverage, the "Round Table", Kelso implied that the Bill's have a rather lax dress code for road games. He then went on to say what you do during the week is reflected on Sundays. Later on they talked about the intensity of the Steelers practices and training camp compared to the Bill's. Which again goes along the lines of something the players would like. Don't tell me what to wear, let's have easy practices, etc. Kelos again stated that usually doesn't make for a good team. -
Has Detroit clinched #1 yet? How high can we go? Can we get to #4? I hears there's a good RT from Texas available.

Official BUF@NYJ game thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's kind of funny, alot of the complaints thowards TE were about all the dumpoffs. JP is now doing the same. Well last year people hoped that JP would have learned something from TE while TE was starting. Then JP came in and didn't do things any different than prior. Apprently this year he did learn watching from the bench! So now we have two if the same at QB -
And where do he come from? They don't grow on trees! 2/3 of the teams in the league have suspect QB play at best. Any of the really good QB's never see the light of free agency. Get a rookie to come in? Look at how good the kid in Baltimire and Atlanta are doing? Maybe those two teams got lucky and will join the list of teams with a good QB. However first lets see how they look in 1 to 2 years. Sometimes guys come in their 1st year and look good, then go down hill after that. While Anderson wasn't a rookie last year in Cleavland, it was his first year starting and what happened to him this year. It's much easier to find a bad QB than a good one. No one knows for certain where TE will fall out, but before you give up on him, you need to be certain he isn't the answer. So far he's looked too good in some games to give up on him. I think you need to figure out how he can look so good then so bad. As has been suggested, teams gave him new looks that he couldn't figure out. I can't believe he's not smart enough to figure it as as one thing he did seem to be is smart. Could it be the coaching hasn't done a good job to teach him how to resolve these problems? Is it too much to expect a 2nd year QB to change his game around in mid season? While a 8 or 10 year vet likely can change quicker maybe it requires an off-season of film work and review for him to figure it out. I'm certain the Bill's will have a new #2 next year, it might be a vet who can help TE, maybe if TE looks terrible again, you'd even start the #2, but I'd be shocked whomever the coach/players are next season that TE isn't the #1 guy going into camp, unles the Bill's were to get someone like maybe a McNabb. But I'd rather see them spend the money on a Julous Peppers type of player first as they have many other bigger needs.

Neither did Bill Parsells prior, o the two guys before that. If you want a guy with winning playoof experience (i.e. above .500% playoff record) the list gets very short.

I don't think we are that bad....
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to jonramz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's see how Ryan plays in another year. Rookies often look better than they do in the second year as teams figure them out. I think that's one of the prtoblems TE needs to overcome I think this team does have an identity. They emulate DJ very well. Typically I tend to lean towards not making radical changes, and I'm not expecting to have a pro-bowler at every position. But at this point, I think DJ should go. However if RW is just going to bring someone else in for the min salary which likely means minimul experience, then I'd just as soon give DJ another year. As everyone has stated, when you switch coaches, you start over and no sense starting over with someone who has no proven track record. I'm not in favor of Bobby Apriil either as he likely may be another example of a great corodinator, poor HC. Could be wrong, but I'd rather not find out. -
At the time it was expected that one Crowell was OK to play the Bill's would give him an injury settlement and release him. (which I don't believe is just an option on the part of the Bill's, thye are required to do this if he's medically cleared. That never happened which makes me wonder if he still isn't OK. Two or more weeks later he still didn't have the surgery, so there was alot more to this. Seemed like once Crowell was on his own nickel (so to speak) he was going in other directions again.

Is there a chance that Edwards..
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to canbuffan34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, I must have missed them!! Or were you referring to the int in the endzone and the four sacks? I certainly admit TE played terrible in the Cleveland game and the NE game and did pretty much nothing. But in both the Jets and the first Miami game, while TE had some costly turnovers, he also moved the chains and got many first downs. Considering they had absolutley no running game in either of those two games, I think he did pretty well excluding the turnovers. Granted the turnovers were big, and may have been the difference in the game, but TE still did do many good things. JP did nothing in any of the games he's played this season. Last season at least JP had a couple good games and made some plays. Sunday he did nothing. On Sunday JP had two passes over ten yards, was 13 of 27 for 127 and 13 first downs had a few decent scrambles, but also lost 44 yards in sacks. In the Miami game TE had 21 of 35 for 227 yards 19 first downs and in the Jet game 24 of 35 for 289 and 18 first downs. And yes he did have turnovers. -
Lose out and draft a franchise QB
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to jms62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're generous. Must be the holiday season! I wouldn't put Vick or Culpepper on the success list. Even without going to the dogs, Vick was a marginal QB, same with Culpepper. But I totally agree with the premise though that the odds of getting agood QB in the draft are low. That's the problem in the league, not enough good QB's to go around. I can think of a handfull of people playing today, picked high who were expected to do well and followed through on it. Both Mannings, Brees, McNabb, Palmer, Rivers, Peddington marginal. A list of people who have turned out to be very good but nothing expected of them prior to playing are as follows; Brady, Romo, Warner, Farve, Delhome, Rothesberger, maybe Culter, but too early yet for certain.
