Nick O'Leary looks like odd man out at TE
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did see him on the field for at least one play. -
I'd pick the RB coach. Lets face it the staff is all together on the same page until it comes time for cuts. At that point the RB coach wants the team to carry five RB, the OL coach wants ten lineman, WR, let's go with six or seven. So I'm sure the RB coach was not happy with cutting Fred, but over all the team likely viewed it as a numbers thing and RB was the odd man out today.

Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guess I'm trying to figure out why everyone seems ot think Rex wanted to keep Fred. Is it because of somthing Tim Graham stated as "fact"? The only thing I can figure is becasue early in training camp Rex called our Brown for fumbling too much, therefore we jump to conclusion, Rex doesn't like Brown, therefore Rex loves fred and would have rather cut Brown and kept Fred. That comment by Rex was also made before Brown had a very strong fumblre free game agaisnt think it was Cleveland. I highly doubt the move of dumping Fred was made without Rex also agreeing with it, infact likely advocating for it. Wouldn't shock me to see it came down to will Fred be happy not dressing most weeks as the #4 back, probably not, so lets move on. But Whaley is being professional about it and letting himself be the fall guy here even if he had nothing to do with it. Normally this was the role Brandon took from the fans, guess we've moved on now. Maybe it was his idea, maybe not but this idea that Whaley got mad at Rex for naming Tailor the started so he then went and cut Freddy is nothing but laughable. -
Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him

Last few seasons don't matter, this year is what matters. McCoy, Williams for certain. Factoring in ST would put Dixon ahead of him too. And honestly, if Brown gets over the fumbling thing, I'd put him ahead to, but may not matter as Brown likely won't dress unless someone else gets hurt which would have been the same position for Freddy, not dressing for the game. -
Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why because Freddy says Whaley was dishonest? For all we know Rex may have been the one who wanted to get rid of him, maybe Whaley tried to keep him, but agreed the numbers didn't add up so cut him, and now he's just taking the heat and not blaming others for it, unlike Freddy. Read in one of the columns today some names mentions, Green Bay cutting Farve, Indy cutting Peyton, and Emmitt Smith leaving Dallas, Could easily add Thurman leaving the Bills too. If those guys could be let go, players who everyone in the league knew what team they played for, half the fans in the league probably haven't even heard of Fred Jackson, then Fred getting cut, isn't even a story, which probably explains why it wasn't much more than a whimper on Sportcenter about it. -

Kind of funny reading a post like list about calling someone else an infant. Well like they always say, it takes one to know one. -
Whaley is an idiot for cutting Fred

Or could be they just agreed with you so they didn't have to listen to you on your rant anymore. -
Why do only 47 players dress for game?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this thread was a riddle!! I may not be explaining this the best, but the rational is it helps teams (like Buffalo use to be) that aren't able to spend as much money as say the Cowboys due to revenue constraints. The logic is teams with deeper pockets could better afford to sign stars for the 47th thru 53rd roster spots which would widen the gap between talent on teams. A team that doesn't want/can't spend as much money can still have players that for 1 thru 47 are just as talented as the high rollers. The depth isn't as good on the lower salaried teams so this helps narrow the gap. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a Buffalo Bills Fans website and we're all fans of the Bills. Fan is short for fanatics. and thread's like this and others on this board today certainly prove than fans are fanatics, Rational thinking goes out the window when dealing with emotion. Blame it on Whaley not wanting to admit he's wrong on Brown; Show how from 2006 to 2011 FJ's stats were better than McCoy and all the other Bills, but kind of forgetting that it's now 2015; just plain stupidness, but that's how fanatics act. -
If you IR him, doesn't he still count against he cap? Not sure what his cap hit is, maybe small enough not to worry about it. You only have I believe it's one slot for IR designated to return. I think it's way to early in the season and Goodwin isn't anywhere near good enough to warrant that spot. Other higher needs unfortunately will likely show up as the season progresses.

So if he's out hurt and unable to play, can the Bills still cut him this week if desired? Or are you not allowed to cut an injured player?

Will the Bills save $5.5M and take a risk?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to KRT88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on what's been seen on the field, Taylor should start EJ is #2, Simms #3, and I'd be fine with either trade or cut Cassel. However as was pointed out earlier in this thread, what we've seen in the games is all against vanilla defense. How will either Taylor or Manual look against a normal defense. It's quite possible in practices Rex has had the defense show much more regular season game looks and in the process Taylor and EJ have both looked very shaky. Alot of the reports from training camp stated that particularly against EJ. Conversely maybe they deliberately held back what they wanted Cassell to do so all were saw were check downs. No idea what the decision will be, but could understand if it's not Taylor as the starter, it may be due to how they've looked playing against more complex looks and Cassell has looked better there. -
Actually Montana didn't retire, he went to KC, think he was hurt so the 49's were moved on to Young a that point and let Montana go to KC the following year. Don't recall the Owens thing??

QB after Pittsburgh

THIS!! Save $5mil on Cassell -
Well that's good news, then I won't have to listen to Lebetard on the way home anymore. Rarely do I have the radio on from 10am to1 as at work then. Last two days I know he wasn't on in the afternoon, think it was Ruscillo who filled in, therefore I listened to the show.

[closed]Roger Goodell and CBA
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because they did agree to all this in the CBA is also is the reason why there's a good chance the Brady thing doesn't get over turned. Unless the NFLPA can prove he did things beyond the scope of the CBA, everything I've read and heard states federal judges rarely will over turn collectively bargained agreements for the reasons you state. -
OK, so then what do you think of Schopp and the Bulldog, do you like them? Aside from the arrogance and condescending tone which admittedly is no trivial thing, to me it's the same show, same silly non-sports related stuff on both of them. Again I don't live in western NY anymore so haven't heard Schopp in years, but when I read here about many of things he talks about, it's the same as Lebatard. And as I said, Stugotz alone isn't too bad, when he's with Lebatard is when he goes downhill fast IMO. And I'm not really knocking either of them, as I said more people prefer the lighter side of sports, but not alot that post on fan message boards as we're the diehards. Just curious since I don't live in western NY, is the Lebatard show on the air someplace there, or do you also not live there?
-
I don't disagree, but it seems like being arrogant, talk as little as possible about sports, and have a co-host that will laugh at all your jokes is a requirement for being an afternoon sports talk radio host.
-
I don't know about that, you certainly hear people on this site often complaining about the stupid non-sports related topics they spend hours discussing. And the reason he's so condescending all the time is he has to deal with so many poeple who are just so dumb and don't understand life like he does.
-
I no longer live in Western NY so for the past 8 plus years haven't had the joy of listening to Schopp anymore, when I did live there I also couldn't stand listening to him. Where I do live now, I get to hear Lebatard everyday and as far as I'm concerned he's just as bad. They are just like Schopp and the Bulldog, Stugotz laughs at all of Lebatards jokes, they have weekly segment like; Love advise from Marcellus Wiley, weekly segments with the head zookeeper from the Miami Zoo, some type of March Madness picking of movies beating other movies each week to advance. The day after the Masters they interviewed Jordan Speith, Speith mentioned he watched some movie Sunday morning, so the next five questions are all about the movie! Lebatard doesn't come off quite as condescending, but is a close second. A few weeks back Stugotz filled in for Greeny in the morning and he actually wasn't bad to listen to, once he's away from Lebatard, seems I've heard other similar comments about Bulldog too, alone he's OK. My opinion is most afternoon hosts are all geared towards the same thing, making light of sports, from their viewpoint it doesn't matter in the grand scheme. Their goal in live is to make you realize there's more to life than sports and want you to become a much more well rounded; read a book, go to a play, host a wine and cheese party, play more with your kids, watch the History channel on TV, do anything but waste time coming to sites like this or living, breathing, talking sports all the time. In the grand scheme of things, most people would tend to agree with that, but the problem is for the most part, the people that would tend to follow that lifestyle are not the people who post on this website or others like it. Those of us that come to these websites, myself included, we want 24/7 hardcore sports, and so here we all tend to rip Schopp and company My wife will often see me typing a post to this site in Feb. or March and comments, "Why are you here, the season's over" I do think the OP is in the majority in general with his views on sports and WGR, however his philosophy will have him burnt at the stake with most of us around here as we're all the hardcore fans.
