Hard to keep track of all the ex Bills QB's floating around!
-
Thought I recall seeing a thread here a few weeks back stating he was going to KC to be reunited with Sammy? Was that just false?

Bills to Pursue RT Williams

So why do you want Morse over the guy from Denver, Praddis or something like that? -
What's going on at PSE?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a valid point, but as the expression goes, "an apples doesn't fall far from the tree" What if these others while great smart people in the business also had some skeletons in the closet too and thta's why they were let go. Maybe not anything as bad a Russ, but not completely squeaky clean either. Maybe in Kim's inexperience, felt they could easily be replaced where as someone else would have put up with some small issues at least until thinks were going smooth. -

I'll give them somewhat of a pass as who knows what Russ Brandon had done with things over there. Now Kim has taken over and may have found things that just didn't look/feel/sound good to her -
Free Agency Fool’s Gold
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Recall a comment made by Mare Levy a long time ago in the early years of free agency. Think it's still true most of the time! He said: Free agency usually hurts the team the player leaves more than it helps the team the player goes to! -
Crabtree releases?? I assumed this thread was about how fast his release off the LOS is. Or in the woods someplace a crabtree fell over? But know one heard it fall!

This Off-season should be all about Allen
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsFan1988's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But you also need what I call a landing spot for the BPA otherwise it's a wasted pick. For example the Jets are drafting near the top, should they take another QB if he's the BPA to sit behind Darnold as opposed to say they take a WR or lineman to help Darnold. Or even make the defensive player to make that side stronger. The best approach is probably somewhere in the middle and realistically you'll never know as whomever any team in the league were to draft, they will tell you he was their BPA on their board. Granted you don't want to take a projected 4th rounder in the 1st round like many argue was the case with EJ, but you also don't want to be tied to one player either. BPA is fine as long as you have about 5 or 6 that fit that spot. Were the Pats really smart to wait to round 6 to draft Brady or just lucky. IMO lucky -
What's your 2019 projected offensive line
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Likely scenario is closer closer to Elijah, land one of the top two centers, also go after a good but not top level guard or RT, then use a high draft choice on one lineman who will start as a rookie. That leave you two FA signed lineman, Dawkins, a rookie and one undecided. That fifth spot and reserves could be a combination of Teller, or Sirius (SP) McDermott or there was another guy who was activated for a number of the late season games, plus maybe also a 4th round pick, and/or a mid to lower level FA signing. Other than the top level center, I'd try and limit the other FA OL contracts to less than 3 years as would use a high 2020 pick as his eventual replacement by like 2021 or so. Likely Beane is looking for one solid more long term answer, and a couple of stop gap players to hold down the fort until he can either draft or sign another long term FA in 2020 and 2021. -
Conditional Picks - The Pats
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could look at it as the Bills did get compensatory picks through trades. Not in any way complaining about this as felt it was the right move but when McD and Beane took over, they traded away most players that did have any value, thus getting picks that was. For example they could have kept Sammy one more season, (or would it have been 2?) then he walks via FA. They could of hung onto Darius and got picks. Likely that would have netted them a high pick. Instead they got picks via the trade. When a team constantly changes coaches every 3 to 4 years and is losing, it's hard to keep players around long enough to generate much value even when they leave. -
The one thing I take out of it is, you can pretty easily sign a new young up and coming coach to come here, but to get an experienced vet wit ha winning reputation, it takes more to get them to come here. I'm sure Buffalo is not completely unique there either as other factors also come into play besides just location; ownership, willing to spend $$, neither of which were high marks with RW either.

USA Today's 4-Round Mock - I'd be Thrilled
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Metcalf is another one of these high risk/ high reward types. From what you hear, it may be worth it. -
Did they? I heard yesterday AB state the Steelers agreed to trade him, but haven't heard the Steelers state that yes we will trade him. Granted they are due to pay a big roster bonus, so ideally you'd want to make the a trade prior. But also could come back that Sorry AB we didn't get any good offers, we're keeping you. Likely he'll be gone, but will see.

McBeane Draft Tendencies?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just heard Kipers latest draft he has Metcalf going to Buffalo at #9. He has the TE from Iowa going at #8. And yes I know 20 people will likely state "what does Kiper know" He did state more than once during the interview, "What I'm hearing" So his mock isn't just him going into a room and deciding who he thinks are the top 100 or whatever players. He's getting feedback from teams front office's telling him what they also think. Every team in the league talks with the front offices of other teams themselves and gets some feedback. I'm sure Beane and Gettleman are talking, not enough to give each others own respective plans away, but enough to get a sense on what other teams are thinking of doing. Are the teams likely blowing smoke, sure, but if the smoke from 5 teams all blows in the same direction, that likely does mean the wind is blowing in that direction. Will there be some shifts, certainly. For everyone still on this "the obvious pick was JJ Smith-Schuster over Zay Jones". Do you actually think Schusters numbers would have been anything even close with TT then a combo of 4 different people throwing him the ball this past season. The Bills have had some of the worst WR/QB play in the past two seasons, assuming Allen is the answer, that should improve, will see. It's hard to find much data now that goes back to prior to the 2017 draft but the little I could find one article ranked Jones as the better choice another had Smith-Schuster as the 9th best overall offense threat which pretty much included any position on the offense except the line and Jones was 16th, hardly enough to say "the obvious pick was JJ Smith-Schuster" -
2019 Free Agency Cheat Sheet
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Repost on March 11th, could come in handy then And if it could be downloadable would be really nice! -
While more often than not teams don't block moves like this may be to that the Saints look at this like; "Now! a week and half before the combines, almost to the start of FA. Sorry we're too committed to this guy now and not enough time to bring a replacement for him. Should have called us last month!"
-
If I were to trade for someone, either Brown or OBJ, I think I'd first call Atlanta and see what it would take to get Julio instead. He's about the same age as Brown, and not as mentally unstable as the other two and his numbers have been just as good. But they don't appear to be talking about trading him so the price may be higher.

Kipers predictions for last year Round 1
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saw that thread the other day that had Foster and Wallace as potential 1st round picks. Even if in reality, in a re-draft they were selected in the 2nd or 3rd, to go that high from being undrafted, after all the interviews, film study workouts, etc. shows me how little the scouts, front office, etc really know about who's going to be a star and who's a dud.
