Gregg Williams to Jets as DC
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe he figures go to NJ in two to three years I 'll have another easy shot at HC when they fire Gase. -
Because then you'll have the same problems that the Bills had this past year. No QB gets nearly enough reps to know what's going on. Likely Rosen with one year experience would win the competition just like Peterman did here. I think a big issue with the bill's offense this year was lack of continuity in training camp, both at the QB position and also the o-line. Every game they were trying to find the right combo, but in the long run, that may have hurt them in developing as a unit. At QB the receivers didn't get enough practice with any one QB and the QB's themselves didn't get enough time on the field either.

OK, but if the Bills had drafted Mahomes in 2017, sat him last year and started him this past season, do you think he'd have even been in the discussion for MVP right now. Prescott looked pretty amazing as a rookie to, imagine what he'll be when he gains experience they were saying. 3 seasons later he's no better, maybe even worse at least statistically.

I think one of those guys or a similar type WR on the roster would be helpful, but still need to get an outside type of guy. Foster could become a good #2 and think Zay may be better suited for the slot. Having one of these reliable always makes the catch type of guy as you're #4 could help. And maybe Oh Canada is #5 or maybe he jumps all the way up to #2 for all we know.

I think they got along pretty good until they first leaked the breakup. Just recently I was looking to see what the latest rating on Get Up have been, but couldn't find anything more recent than late last summer. I know the show was doing terrible at that time and they were hoping for a boost from football season and recall they made some changes to the line up to try and improve. But haven't seen anything since to know if it helped at all or not.

Super Bowl LIII prediction

I got 450 reasons to pick the Saints! -
So based on your concept we'd have started out with Josh Allen as the holder, then Peterman, then Anderson, then we'd have finally got to Barkley. Or maybe had started out with Peterman since he was the #2 guy, then Allen once Peterman became the starter, then in week 3 back to Peterman again, then Anderson and Barkley. As was also pointed out Barkley and Anderson were off helping Allen at practice. Agreed having three punters certainly didn't help, but also likely teams go through backup QB's at a higher rate than punters.

Other than that part of it, which is very important for QB development, can't see that a guy wit ha WR perspective would be bad for QB development. Explaining to the QB how a WR thinks and run routes and where he'd like the ball can't do anything but help. People here with no actual inside knowledge get way too hung up on things like this with people working anywhere close to outside the lines means incompetency.

If you basically can't hit the broad side of a barn, then likely you can't teach that person to be accurate. On the other hand if the issues are forgetting exactly what needs to be done, that's different. Pre-draft when he was working with believe his name was Palmer, you were hearing how more accurate he was, even in training camp was better. Then regular season came and things went off the rails, yes easy to write if as "anyone can be accurate in practice, what happens when the real bullets fly" But the other side of that is as he practices more and more, the game slows down. He won't have to think as much about where's the blitz coming from, who's the hot read, what are all the routes, instead he can think more about his footwork and quickly that will become second nature too him. Will he likely ever become a 65 to 70% completion percentage passer, probably not, but give him experience and a much better cast around him could see him making high 50s to 60%. I'd also argue you can add 5% to his percentage because of his running abilities. They may not be passes, but they still move the chains.

Bills fire WR Coach Terry Robiskie
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree if you were going to get rid of Daboll, you'd likely first hire a new OC, then let him decide who to stay and who goes. -
Really, so how should they improve, use a number 1 draft pick on a CB? Well if they had done that last year, whoever it was wouldn't have been as good as Wallace. Is this the opposite of "I've heard of him, so sign him" Since he was undrafted, you just know he's not going to be any good. No team can afford 22 all pros playing on the filed. Having a guy as the #2 who played as well as Wallace and you're in very good shape there. Do they need more depth, yes, but don't need to look for a starter. Was it somehow a fluke as no other teams knew him so didn't know how to play against him, possibly but nobody knows that answer. Plus if that were the case would be the same for other rookies too. I'd say look for a decent CB for depth and if Wallace does somehow drop off, you have another similar quality option. If he plays the same or even improves slightly you're all set.

Only if prior to the draft they had stated Marino will be bust. Whether Allen is good or bad doesn't really matter, all that matters is proving to themselves and most important to the rest of the world is to show that they were correct. If it means somehow doubling down to prove your point, then by all means go for it!

Didn't think he'd do it on New Years Day. -
Bills sign Derek Anderson to extension
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hope this doesn't come to be but.... Not sure if Anderson actually wants to play at all, so could see if say halfway through the year or so if Barkley or Allen were to get hurt, that would make Anderson the #2 guy by default. Could see them instead cutting him and signing someone else. This deal was made to help Allen's development. During the off-season, training camp etc, can see that being a big help. By next Nov or so, not sure there'd be as much benefit so could see them moving on if they need another QB. -
I'd offer Hughes and extension and also McCoy. In McCoy's case at a reduced incentive based deal for maybe 3 years and that he can easily be cut if he doesn't make certain incentives. If McCoy says no to it, then you release him. While McD and Beans both stated they want McCoy back (At this time of year talk is cheap) they didn't necessarily state they want him back on the current contract either.

Buffalo needs a complete rebuild on Offense
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Socal-805's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really,m he's ranked 56 in receptions and 59 in yards. If you divided that by 32 teams, says he's a low #2 and a low #2 on a team without a #1 and even a #3. Can he be improved on sure, lets sign Julio Jones, Antonio Brown and OBJ, that would make Zay a #4, so then you'd be correct. But reality is even if they were all available and you could sign them, you'd never be able to afford 3 WRs of that caliper, so having a guy of Zay's capabilities as a #2 or better slot guy, plus add Foster in there as the #2, what the team still needs is a #1 which no one would dispute. Croom as a #2 TE also isn't bad, with better players around him would be a good #2. McCoy I'd renegotiate his contract add a year or two, but at a much lower incentive based contract. Sign two FA lineman, 1 to 2 WR, plus draft one of each and aTE and you have a solid offense. Not nearly as bad as this thread makes it out to be. -
Bills Should Be Judicious in Free Agency
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to racketmaster's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd like to see the Bills sign of the one top three FA interior lineman available, maybe the center Paradis. Then I'd try to sign another good lineman, maybe one that is over 30 that you can sign for a shorter contract, 2 to 3 years. My thinking is this guy is a short term move and in the 2020 draft you use a high pick on his replacement. For 2019 you now have Dawkins, Teller, two FA signings and would use a fairly high pick this year on one other lineman with the plan to start him in Sept. How high I think it depends on how likely the Bills are to move Dawkins to another position. If that is true, then I'd more like to see them draft a LT in the 1st round (Q Nelson excluded, you typically don't need to use 1st round picks on interior lineman) If not moving Dawkins then maybe a 2nd or a 3rd rounder on a lineman. Also like to see them sign two WR, again one real good one, and another decent one, and also use a higher draft pick on a WR too. I'd resign Hughes, for McCoy based on his output think I'd offer to extend him this year for 2 to 3 years at a fairly substantial reduced incentive based contract. If he declines, then time to move on as don't think he's worth his present contract based on his age. McD and Beane both said they want McCoy back, but they didn't specify at what cost. I'd also use draft picks on their replacements for a year or two down the road. -
Josh Allen end of season presser
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree with anything you say about Beane. I too think he is doing a very good job and unlike some here would be very sorry to see him or McD go, but when it comes to QB, still say it's more luck when you look at how many high picks flame out. It's not that all these other GM's are clueless/ -

Josh Allen end of season presser
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LUCKY I like Beane and MCD and feel like the team finally did get it right there. But finding a QB is more luck than anything. If the GM of NE was so smart why did he wait until the 6th round to draft Brady, why not take him in the 3rd to make sure they had him. Excluding Indy twice (Peyton and Luck) Rams with Goff and a small handful others taken at #1 when you look at the rate of finding very good to great QB's the rate is less than 50% so when you do get him it's more luck than anything. Why did Beane wait until #7 to get Allen, someone easily could have jumped ahead of them. If that had happened, at the time he likely would have been almost as happy with Rosen. -
