Improving the O right now.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Duke Wlliam's was signed as un drafted rookie by the Rams who only won around 4 games that season, but still wasn't able to make the roster. After that no other NFL teams bothered with him. Then after two seasons in the CFL he signs with Buffalo, but don't recall much of a bidding war for his services. After having a per-season that many here must think was the 2nd coming of Julio Jones he's cut and again no one signs him. And after that 6 weeks or so on the practice squad and again not signed by anyone. I realize much of the early career lack of interest was due to off field issues but there are plenty of players with off field issues playing in the NFL, the difference is they have the talent. This love fest for someone who's apparently shows very little every day in practice to coaches and overall to other teams boarders on insanity. It is still possible given an off-season to further develop, he could turn out next season to be a productive player. But barring someone getting hurt, doubt you'll be seeing any of him this year. But even then likely the team will add an experienced WR plus draft one, so guys like him and even those above him on the depth chart like McKenzie and Foster are in trouble to make next seasons roster. -
2017 revisited...McDermott or ALynn for HC??

True, but I think they still had more talent, and certainly were set at the QB position which is typically the toughest spot to fill. -

Lynn inherited a roster that had more talent than Buffalo had so that helped his record initially. I also don't think if Lynn was hired here he would have torn things down as much as as someone else stated, we'd have a middle of the road team for awhile. Maybe he would have allowed TT to play more wide open ala Jackson? -

LOL so you activated two guys, but didn't see who you're taking off the field. Ford being benched isn't happening, nor does it warrant happening. Ford is more than holding his own against some top defensive teams. Who's to say Ty would have even done any better the past few weeks. Can activate Williams, but doubt they throw him the ball as they barely involve the #4 or #5 WR now. -
Think the big thing hurting us particularly early on is so many games we just squeaked by against weak teams, Miami the 1st time, Washington, Cinci, Giants while teams like NE were beating them by 20 points. And the other thing that hurt us early on were all the turnovers by Allen. Also think the ranking work alot like college football rankings. Teams get hardly any upward movement for improvements, its more a case of teams ranked higher faltering and dropping which indirectly moves you up. And just as we started to get respect, we get blown out by Philly.

But they've all won 11 games and Minn, KC and NE 10 and have looked better winning the Bills have. So that's 7 teams with as many or more wins and until the Bills can easily beat inferior teams, these others who have won as much or more and look better doing it should be ranked higher. So that puts them down to at least #8 If you want to argue thats where they should be ranked , OK fine, but overall do think the Texans have more talent than the Bills so bumping Buffalo one slot lower to #9 isn't crazy by any stretch.

2020 NFL Free Agents

Charles Clay and Jordan Mills! -
Hope Fitz has a foundation as if this were to happen, the money Bills fans would be sending his way would likely surpass what Dalton got.

Not that Collingsworth is an expert, but he certainly has much more actual experience than most on this board. During the game he commented that on Allen's throws that are high he felt it's due to him not extending his arm upward as he should, that he's releasing the ball around neck high, so then it tends to sail as he makes up for it by throwing "uphill"

Playoffs - Need Nsekhe Back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not like Nsekhe was bound for the pro bowl before getting hurt, I think most here would agree all season long whether it was Nsekhe or Ford at RT, that was our weakest position overall on the line. While overall Nsekhe played better than Ford prior to the injury it still was somewhat shaky. When did Nsekhe get hurt, the Denver game? Everyone was in a panic at that point, myself included. But based on Ford playing the last four games now full time he's done well and I'm not convinced there's be any improvement at this point anymore with Nsekhe as Ford has shown improvement, looked good going up against some top defenses, and the bar set by Nsekhe isn't that high to start with. I used the word looking good. You could certainly argue, shouldn't we want great and the answer is yes, but Nsekhe never provided greatness either. I think either way Spain won't be re-signed as the team would rather pay for a rookie and develop him. The question then becomes can they draft a better guard or RT in around the 2nd or 3rd round, that may determine where they play Ford. If they do draft a RT and move Ford to guard, then likely the rookie and Nsekhe will again split time next season. -
Baby Yoda loves the Bills

I keep waiting to hear what Hitler thinks these days! He's been very quiet last few seasons, think he must have died with RW. -
Playoffs - Need Nsekhe Back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would they move him to guard when they already have three strong players inside. I'd expect when Ty comes back barring injury inside, Ford will take the majority of the snaps at RT with Ty spelling him some as the past four weeks has shown he can fill the needs of the position. -
Playoffs - Need Nsekhe Back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They gave up one sack. Last four weeks they've faced some of the best defenses in the league. He's a rookie who not only was splitting time with Nsekhe, but in training camp also was switching positions . My thinking as of late is not sure he won't be the long term answer at RT as opposed to switching to guard as he's more than holding his own. Just happy that the people running the Bills have more patience than most posters here. Seems a day doesn't go by that there isn't a post about either Ford or Knox being a bust or close to it and what are we going to do about TE next season. -
5th Year Option Pick Ups
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True probably disappointments is a better word than mistakes. And likely most who have an option that was declined will still sign with another team just at much less money than they figured they'd be making when they got drafted 4 years prior, i.e. Shaq Lawson. They're really not busts, just not worth the money they could be making or thought they'd make. -
5th Year Option Pick Ups
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Certainly is skill and huge amounts of knowledge involved. But even with all that in the end almost 50% were mistakes. Once the evaluations are complete, if you gave me a list of the top 30 players and asked me if I should pick them or not. I could decide on the flip of a coin and have about he same success rate as they have once it's narrowed down to that point. That tells me the final decision on picking the player or not is not all that scientific . -
Article in todays Athletic about projections of teams who will, won't, or may pick up players 5th year options. There projections were of the 32teams, 18 would be picked up, 9 would not and 5 were maybe's. BTW in case you were wondering White was a definite yes. One other yes that might surprise was Tribitsky (sp) What it actually ends up being will see, but likely won't change by a huge amount either up or down What kind of stood out to me was 18 of 32 were a yes, slightly over 50%. So for everyone out there who love to knock the Bills draft picks because they didn't pick the person they wanted or whom else they could have picked regardless of the round chosen, i.e. Zay Jones, overall the success rate for all teams isn't very great. I'm sure for QB's the rate is even lower. So tells me even with all the information available to all teams, it's really more luck than skill WRT who is selected.

Agree with everything except WR in the first round. My thought is DE or LB in round 1. My rational is it's easier to find high level FA WR than it is pass rushers or DE. Sign a good WR and dtil ldraft one in the 2nd or 3rd, but use the 1st round on pass rush.

I wasn't bummed as agree they need a WR, but they still have too many other needs to have given up picks. The problem is they've done better than expected this season, but overall they are still a year away from potentially becoming elite.
