The Athletic ranks each teams quality of drafting
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
What was hard to figure out how they came up with the rankings as overall NE was ranked #30 with an overall score of 5.58, 9 top 50 picks, 2 pro bowls, and 29 starting seasons. Basically better stats, but yet overall rank was so much lower. Having said that, I'll be the first to admit NE's draft record the past ten year years or so has been terrible, but hard to see why NE is so much lower when you just look at that numbers the article lists. There were a couple other teams where I also saw similar numbers, Vikes Jaquars, even the Giants -
Bills Draft Strategy vs the Consensus
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
So how do we know the Bills wouldn't have followed the BB if every pick prior to them also followed the BB? Maybe players were already gone or someone expected to be gone was still there so there was a deviation? -

Draft as many of these 7 DTs as possible
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly, I see posts like this all the time, the Bills should draft/sign draft several (fill in the position blank) There has to be an actual roster spot open for that player. It's different too if a team is rebuilding, having 2 or 3 rookies in a position group is OK as in a couple years maybe half of them turn out to be good. But for a team in a win now mode , that likely doesn't improve the roster for 2025. Also add to that rookies take extra effort to develop. In todays NFL there's very limited practice time allowed and teams can't just saw, we'll spend an extra couple practice hours with the rookie as it's not allowed. It's the same reason why very few backup QB's hold for kicks these days as don't want to take away his limited time to work with the QB's. For similar reasons, when companies hire apprentices, unless it's a very large company, they usually only hire one until that person is trained. Same here, teams are better off drafting one and maybe a 2nd with a very low pick that you can be placed on PS and not likely to be poached by another team. Agree too unless they are ready to give up on Carter, not bringing in another 3T. Just yesterday read an article too that commented that one game Carter played as the 1T and did OK so the team may view him as a potential backup in both positions. Not likely to give up on a fairly high draft pick after only one season either. -
Bills Related Draft News & Discussion

Wow don't recall some of those name, but not like they made an in-game impression I do recall Colton Schmidt and Corey B, but this Kaare Vedvik name sounds like a name you'd more likely find on the Sabres roster than the Bills. Thanks for filling in the names! -
Bills Related Draft News & Discussion

In Joe B's article in todays Athletic he talks about the Bills possibly drafting a punter and having a 3 way Puntapalooza. He mentioned this would be the first one since CoreyVsCoryVsKaarePuntapalooza. Trying to recall who two of them were. I assume one was Cory B. Don't recall the other two?? -
Miami Herald: Dolphins players have turned on McDaniel
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought you said you felt he was a good offensive coach?? Maybe the 15 years ago version of Rex. The league is full of guys like this great coordinators, but didn't succeed as HC. Robert Salah is a name that comes to the top of my list to compare too. Kinsberry is another. -
Colts release kicker Matt Gay
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's the 8th highest, but most of the 7 ahead of him have contracts that expire further down the road than him and many of the names behind him in pay have contracts expiring sooner than him. Meaning many of the players behind him will pass him when they get new deals and Bass will drop down the pay rankings soon.. Overall, maybe he's overpaid by a small amount, but at the time he signed the new contract he was Bass-O-Matic and was a good valued contact. After that yes he had a bad year, but did seem to correct himself by season end. -

What’s your hottest Bills take?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Kelly was better than you're making him out to be, but can't completely argue with you either. IMO comparing him to Josh is kind of pointless as the game, the rules, and the players around him have totally changed. Probably Elway and Marino were the two best QB's of that same era, but don't think either of them can do the things Josh can do either. Does that make them mediocre too, I don't think so? I'd argue Thomas may have been as good as OJ, but again was used much differently again in a somewhat different game style. To me the best player of all time was Jim Brown, though admittedly was only old enough to maybe watch his last year or too. I probably saw more highlight film of him than actual games played. -
We should develop an AI play calling agent
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall
That would save money as wouldn't need all the coaches. I compare it to I'd sometimes fill out a bracket for March Madness and just pick all the favorites except for a couple and that would be my downfall. Same here could se a coach going with the AI calls 90% of the time, but once in awhile decide to over ride the call and that would be the problem. -
Bills and McGovern discussing contract extension?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
So 67 of those snaps were in the last game when the Bills played all their backups and was kind of like a pre-season game from a game planning perspective. He had 32 total against SF probably there mostly as the 6th lineman as they ran a fair amount due to conditions, but maybe a series or two at guard, likely same in Jax game and second Jets game in blow outs. He may work out long term either with the Bills or someplace else. Who knows, but not certain his success to date translates to starting guard either and not sure the Bills do either, maybe. The article that I mentioned that was the point listed interior line as a "sneaky draft need" due to future unknowns. If they do draft another guard that may tell you how the Bills view things. -
Bills and McGovern discussing contract extension?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
What grade are you referring to and when/how did he get it as again I don't recall him playing much interior line last year other than coming in at the end of blow outs. So is his grade based on mostly as a 6th lineman? It was funny after your earlier response was reading an article today that made the exact point I'm trying to make. They have a potential in-house option in Alec Anderson, though it remains to be seen what he’d do in a starting role rather than as a jumbo package sixth offensive lineman You seem to be making this leap that because he played well as a 6th lineman translates to him being this good interior lineman. As a 6th lineman his role has probably been mostly chipping on DE's and blocking LB's and CB's Draft slot does matter. The higher the draft pick the player gets a longer rope to hang himself with. Yes Benford beat out Elam, but they also kept Elam around for 3 seasons because of his draft slot. You hear/read it all the time, the drafted player will be kept over an undrafted player unless there is ample data to suggest otherwise. One of us must not have been watching the Bills play last year as I stated don't recall seeing Anderson playing inside very much other than the end of blow outs out and yes week 18 he played all game. So are you making all your assumptions based on one game of playing or again that his role of 6th lineman translates to an interior starter? He may turn out to be great, but at this point little data is available to determine that based on role as an actual interior lineman. I'm also pretty certain they will keep him this year and he'll continue in the role of the 6th lineman, a role he's done well with. -
Bills and McGovern discussing contract extension?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree Anderson was certainly ahead last year. This season who knows. The fact that SVGP was drafted and Anderson was undrafted says in theory SVGP has a higher ceiling, but he certainly wouldn't be the first drafted rookie to flame out either. -
Bills and McGovern discussing contract extension?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Probably you're right as don't watch every play of every other team to even know how many other teams used the 6th lineman much. Believe the Bills led the league in using 6 lineman so probably very little competition for the title of league best in this category. Being the best 6th man lineman doesn't necessarily translate into him being the best backup lineman in the league IF he had to come in and play in a regular lineman position. If Dawkins got hurt and missed a game, would Anderson be the guy they turned too? Last year when Brown go hurt and missed a game it wasn't Anderson who took his spot and started. Anderson fills a unique role in Buffalo and he does it very well and the Bills rewarded him with a contract for that work, but that doesn't mean he's in line to take anyone's place as the next starter or that he's ahead of SVGP or any of the other actual TRUE backups. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Not starting him last year does say something though as to how the Bills view him. -
Bills and McGovern discussing contract extension?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's not about what folks are hoping for in a 5th rounder. It's the reality that the team can't afford shiny new toys all over the place. There needs to be some cheap "knock off's" where appropriate. With the rookies and depth the Bills have on their line, I don't think it's far fetched that you could see next year in 2026 either Edwards or McGovern are gone. There were some stories written back in Feb predicting Edwards could have been a March cut to save money. Alec Anderson wasn't even drafted but you're ready to play him over a 5th round pick. Anderson may be better or maybe not? I stated for 2026, by that point SVGP will have 2 years experience and still has 2 years left on cheap rookie contract. Anderson is also unsigned next year too so not that certain he's getting a crack first in 2026. -

Maybe trying to make a deal with either McGovern or Edwards. Whichever signs first is here long term, other is gone after this year and then move SVPG into starting role?? -

Bills halt contract negotiations with Cook
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah Cook really needs another big year under his belt to prove he's really worth the $15 Mil he's asking for. Someone like a Barkley put big numbers up in his first year and was a very big name coming out of the draft. Cook doesn't yet have that and hasn't shown to be a 3 down player yet so he has too much to prove to sit out this year IMO. Maybe he doesn't show up to the voluntary sessions but if he does hold out and risks not having a big year he'll never get the money he's asking for. -
Chiefs Request Christmas Game Yearly
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Considering there are teams argue the Cowboys and Lions shouldn't have all the Thanksgiving home games and the league should rotate it, but the league doesn't want to abandon these two cities as years ago, no one wanted to host these games, but they both agreed to it. Can't imagine they'd want to start the same thing now with another city and years from now feel indebted to them. -
OK we all agree on the answer, they will use the fieldhouse. My question came since the OP started the statement with: "Will the Bills practice at the new stadium" and you answered yes so I questioned that. So agree the correct answer should have been no/yes since he asked 2 opposite questions
-
You sure about #3?? I'd assume they'll still use the field house the majority of the time? Don't they have an adjacent grass field to the fieldhouse that they could use? Or maybe they install some type of new "turf" in the fieldhouse that more resembles grass?

If Grant is still available in mid 20's could see Beane moving up for him. From what I've read, he's the one DT who is actually a 3 down player. Others are either good against the run or good against the pass, but not both. I've seen different mocks having him gone anywhere from around 12 to being there at 30
