Can we talk about a Back Up QB?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall
And yet the same "people" are saying Minshew would be an improvement, yet his stats were worse. I think it's more a case the "people" i.e. posters are terrible at evaluating talent. Two years ago these same people were claiming Brown to be a bust -
Can we talk about a Back Up QB?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall
I must have missed it, when did Trubisky take any meaningful stats for the Bills that you were able to determine this? Minshew was mentioned as an improvement, funny when you look at their career stats, just about every one Trubisky is better than Minshew. The only one stat Minshew was slightly better at was int % and it was 2.5 vs 2.0. Everything else Trubisky was better for their careers. You even say Trubisky may be able to win a game or two. Why would any QB who views themselves better than being able to win a game or two want to even come to Buffalo when you know you have no chance of ever playing unless Allen gets hurt or its a blowout. You'd go to NY or Cleveland where you know the starting QB is on shaky ground and could easily get benched at some point and you're now the starter. Even if Allen had a horrendous game and Bills are getting blown out and was sat down by mid way through the 3rd quarter, the back up could come in and throw 5 TD' and lead the Bills to victory, but the next week Allen is starting if healthy. This is a 1st world country problem you're bringing up and don't even know that it's a problem or that there's a better reasonable solution out there. -
Jags release Christian Kirk, seems like a Billsy move
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
So that leaves a WR group of Coleman, Shakir, Samuel, Kirk, Palmer/Brown, and high draft pick rookie. Considering for the past few years the Bills have only carried 5 WR, means one of the above is being cut or traded. Based on the names above Samuel would likely be that guy, but it's a big cap hit to do that. Add to that they also have Kinkaid and Knox, and only one ball to go around. This would be a great lineup for fantasy football, but in the NFL actually have to think about what your roster will look like -

The Athletics Free Agent rankings

I read the article too. Just to put it in perspective, Poona Ford was the 5th ranked DT too. I did wonder about the top ranked guy from the Eagles. Is he worth pursuing? To me you can get a top ranked DT for less money than and Edge rusher and while maybe not 100% as effective of a move, for the money a better value proposition? -
Sounds too like at 30 a better chance at getting a much better DT and edge too.

Bills choose not to tender Morris
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
They have Davidson. question is, can he block at all to fill the blocking TE role. Probably for the Bills less important as Anderson as the 6th OL fills the blocking TE role. Knox also has become a pretty good blocker too and if they resign Hollins, he also is a very good blocker. -
Jets planning to either trade or release Devante Adams
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to UKBillFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think I'd go quite that far. I think it's more of a case of his "friends" i.e. Rogers happens to be a really great QB and even Carr and him had chemistry. IMO if the Bills were interested in him, think he'd come here to play with Allen. But would be surprised if the Bills are that interested. Conversely there's a good chance he does follow Rodgers as if a team promises Rogers they'll sign Adams, Rogers may sign quicker and Adams doesn't have a great track record so likely not too many teams would be interested. -
Does Dion Dawkins make the Wall of Fame
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Simply more years. Think his level of play and community involvement warrants inclusion, just needs a few more years of playing. My vote would be if he plays out this full contract and if he were to leave on good terms, he'd make it further down the road. -
Free Agents we like for the 2025 Bills?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Desert Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why would I want to sign a guys who likely will be looking to become one of the highest paid WR in the game and wants to show he's a number 1 receiver? The Bills need a WR who can separate better and has better speed and can catch the ball when it's thrown to him. But doesn't need to be elite either as the Bills passing game is one of the top 10 in the league. If Higgins were here and gets 60 to 70 receptions a season, it likely means the other players on the team will get around 50 less receptions combined. -
NFLPA Team Report Cards out - Bills are 23/32
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Reading some of the responses here is somewhat debatable whether a 747 can land in Buffalo too. Likely this response will get a responses from the camp that states you can land it, but then the ones who said you can't will reply again to them. -
Packers open to trading CB Jaire Alexander
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was being a bit sarcastic WRT Elam, but my point is the key starts up front to getting better. But do think Elam and everyone in the secondary would look much better with higher pressure on QB. -

You put elite pass rushers on the line and Elam could look Elite in the secondary! -

Do they have planes built like that available for charter? While NFL teams may make a ton of money its still much harder to justify buying or paying to have a plane setup for this for a total of maybe a dozen trips a year -
Add to that, having Cook back there or Johnson or Davis makes the passing game more effective too. When you have a top level great QB, the need to a #1 WR drops way off. Add a top level WR, the offense may generate a few hundred more yards but if the new guy gets 1400 yards, it means someone else(s) is getting around 1000 yards less.
-
Doubtful. They haven't done that the past few years. When you factor in how much they went with 6 O-line makes having an extra WR kind of pointless. Add to that, they were expected to go with 2 TE's much more than they did. Likely the reason they did not was due to Kincaid having the torn PCL that was not known to anyone outside. Overall the team was most effective being more balanced and also passing out of the 6 O-line formation and with a RB on the field. There's no need for 6 WR when you look at what the team did best. They have to replace Cooper and Hollins, most everyone is hoping they resign Hollins so that leaves one spot left to sign either an experienced player or draft a rookie in the first couple of rounds, but not both. Unless they cut Samuel, but money wise hard for them to do that.
-
You planning to cut Samuel as that adds up to 6 WR and they almost always only carry five. When posters start talking about who they they think the team will sign or draft, you need to be able to count to 53! I've read a few posts how they should draft 2 rookie DT's Then add Oliver Jones, Carter, an 2 rookies is 5, that's it ad having two rookies backups at the same position and your other backup is only in his 2nd year, doesn't likely mean the team will be better in 2025. They may be better in around 2027 , but not right away.

NFL will make all games available on stream in 2025.

I wonder how good the NFL's technology will be a stopping IP spoofing?? Hmmmmm....... -
I think Bishop is better suited for strong safety so could move Bishop there and sign Cisco for FS. Then either have Rapp for depth or cut/trade him, admittedly wouldn't get very much in a trade maybe a 6th or 7th. Add to that as much as Rapp was hurt, wouldn't be a terrible thing. However the Bills have Bishop and Rapp for another year. Considering they have somewhat limited resources to spend in FA, not sure you'd want to spend money on a player that may not have a starting position for him. but if the Bills feel moving on from Rapp as a starter is a positive move, then yes to this.

Best non Super Bowl Bills Team, SB era, ever
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall
Like everyone wants to talk about the 13 second game in that the Bills were leading when Allen walked off the field. Bills were leading that day too when Johnson walked off the field. They didn't lose because of Johnson, they lost because of ST. The year prior, Flutie's first year, he played lights out. 2nd year 99 Bills, they won because of their defense and Flutie did OK He was nothing that special that second year, but he was special in trying to take the credit and deflect all blame in press conferences. -

Was that the year Ferguson got hurt or was that 1981?? I'd go with whichever year it was he was hurt. Believe they played in the Bengals in playoff game, temp was rea; cold and lost
