Gameday Thread Bills vs. Rams 1st Half
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every extra point Bass kicks, straight down the middle; every field goal, within inches of the goal post!! -
Who you kidding Josh, we know who you are.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't shock me to if Diggs or Brown score a TD off a pass particularly in the 2nd half if Bills are winning to be yelling loudly towards each other in earshot of Ramsey comments about lots of trash around here, someone call the trash collector, etc. I think better chance the WR's will do the talking for Josh. -
Another similar career to Warner was Vinny Testaverde He came out of college with about as much hype as LOL Trevor Lawrence has this year. Never really lived up to it, had a 20 year career with his best years the last part with the Jets and eve nthen could probably define it further as best years with Bill Parsells . Never won a SB like Warner, but Warner's career was much shorter. Looking at Warner's stats, he had 2 great years in St Louis, then tailed off till his last 3 years in Arizona, those may have even been his most consistent. And a definite NO to Fitz for the hall

True, and I suppose conversely a few amazing passes/plays early in the season can elevate your score too.

So did you watch every pass likely in an All 22 format of both Bills game and the Jets game to come to your conclusion? And did you have a 2nd person using the identical criteria that you use also review your conclusions? I read the article, I didn't see where it stated that. What it said was the pass into the flat that could have been intercepted for a pick six hurt him. The article also talked about how they have a small number of people who do the evaluations and are all well trained in the system. Every evaluation is reviewed by a 2nd person before publishing and QB performance is reviewed by a third person. They also are using the same identical criteria for every game. They don't have bias as opposed to all the fans here which again is short for fanatic. One thing I'm certain of every person who posts on this site is about 100 times more bias than a company that is doing this for a living. It's amazing how anytime a thread praises the Bills, that guy is a genius, he gets it, but talk bad about the Bills and that article is worthless and they are all idiots. But that's what happens when you read every post wearing Bills colored glasses.

The other two things I thought were rather insightful was the comment that: The thing that is separating Josh Allen’s grade from Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, who have similar numbers through two games, are the turnover-worthy plays. Also that the Bills are 5th highest in the league in yards after catch. So that is something that the receivers get credit for, but not the QB. Who knows how many yards that actually was, but may have taken Allen down from 417 yards to 325 or so, not a bad day, but not in the stratosphere either.

Just read an article on the Athletic about the PFF system, sounds like Fairburn contracted them to understand why. Not endorsing or complaining, just summarizing some of the points given of how their grades are determined: The explanation given is they aren't grading purely off stats. For example QB's will get negative grades for passes that could have been intercepted, but given a positive grade for dropped passes. Also the QB doesn't get as much credit for completing a pass to a wide open receiver, in that case the receiver gets the better grade for getting himself open where as throwing a completion into a tight window does give the QB better grades. It also stated, (didn't exactly understand the logic here), but negative grades will make the grades worse early in the season when less data to analyze where as the season progresses, you don't notice the negative stuff in the overall score as much. It also stated that it's easier for a QB to generate negative grades than positive ones. It gave a couple of examples of scores given prior where fans and even coaches screamed about them Aaron Rodgers had a grade of -.08, which was average and he threw for 333 yards, 5 TD's, zero interceptions. But he also had a fumble, a dropped int and 3 TD's credited more to great plays by Randall Cobb. McCarthy screamed about the grades, but last summer, he met with them and went over that game and came away with a good understanding of why the score was bad and agreed that their assessment was accurate. Another game Nick Foles threw 400 yards, 7 TD's and zero ints and had a score around what Allen got. Kelly the coach at the time went nuts too, but again after sitting down with them and understanding what goes into their grading system, came away as a believer. So to some of the points above, is their grading system secret? no but alot more than the obvious goes into it? Like to see how they'd grade Farve, well Rodgers didn't make out too well!

Dawson Knox concussion
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree he's needed. His blocking has improved quite a bit from last year and he is a big strong gtarget. So many here want to replace him already, but in this offense, the TE isn't going to see that many targets anyway especially if Davis continues to shine with a 4 WR set, so at the least he serves as a good decoy that defenses have to account for. -
Joe B All-22 Review of Dolphins game

I think it will be more a year of hitting the weights hard and bulking up. So many rookies come back so much stronger in year 2 -
Croom released from Practice Squad
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why, If Knox is back which most normal type concussions, you're back by the following game, why would it change anything from last week? You know that really would be funny. Not a bad move by her. Though have to say, seemed like ever since it was made public that Croom was dating the bosses daughter, his playing time decreased. Last year was on IR, though seemed like the move was made more for numbers than he was really hurt. From what I recall he was playing last year late in the pre-season, then all of a sudden he's on IR. -
Not expecting to see Edmunds or Milano this week

That's a good point, winning this week could hurt us down the road in the playoff chase. -

Agree with it being an issue, but no idea why. They have often been ahead at the half, last season with their weak offense, it made sense to some level to be conservative and protect the lead, but the problem then often was the lead wasn't that large to not often allow the other team back into the game. This season based on two games not a need for them to be conservative and can't say they have been. Yesterday as pointed out they only ran was it 8 plays, two drives ended on a incomplete passes, one I think was the ball Diggs juggled about 5 times before dropping, admittedly not a perfectly thrown pass. It's not like last year where they'd run Gore into the center of the line 3 times and say gee why didn't that work. Those same type of plays always seem to work in the other 3 quarters, so why not then? Maybe the issue is on JA loses concentration just a bit and the passes are just slightly off compared to earlier and that makes the difference. Defensively they seem to be somewhat in a bend but don't break mode, if so could blame that on coaching. But hard to blame coaches if offensively they are running the same types of plays, but they just don't work then.

How did we do with regard to injuries?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A big part of the issue with Knox is he has all the physical traits needed to be an outstanding TE, the issue is he is still very raw WRT to having the actual ball in his hands. In College, he was hardly thrown too as how too many outstanding WR's around him, so he is still in the learning mode. -
Gabriel Davis TD celebration
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And the reason he would have been all alone was due to the downfield blocking of Duke to spring him free. -
Hard to believe too that Russ W (5 TD's) wouldn't have been higher, at least 2nd maybe behind only Rodgers? So definitely does make you wonder how they come up with their ratings?

Would You Trade For Zach Ertz?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo03's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1st off they can't afford him without cutting others and cutting even more next season. 2nd, the Bills are keeping Knox on the field, so how many times are they going to go with two TE's. And at the expense of sitting which of the three wide outs. Maybe we'll sit Diggs. 3rd, with the 3 main WR's and even throw in Davis as a 4th, how many targets will the TE even get in this offense. 4th to be able to afford the 3 top WR's the team has, you have to have cheap rookie contracts at other spots. San Fran has Kittle, but the WR group isn't anything that special. KC does have a pretty good group and Kerse, but likely are saving in other places. So having Knox there, and Gillian, and Sweeney is a good thing. I'm sure you can show statistically how this will work out great based on simulations in Madden, but when you actually have to pay guys, not so much. -
Who gets promoted when Daboll becomes a HC?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes they've all had short lived success, maybe a case of being at the right place at the right time, but lately excluding Shanahan not as much. Wouldn't be shocked to see Pederson fired by year end unless things turn around. Can also argue Pederson got the team there with Nick Foles who may have just been the right guy for that team and not enough tape to know how to stop him. Once other teams figured him out, both Pederson and Foles went down hill. McVay had one great year with his QB, since then done OK, nothing spectacular. Right now Shanahan's star is shining, lets see if it lasts. -
I was nervous about this one too as it seems whenever Fitz has a bad game and people start to say he's washed up, the next week he comes out and lights things up. And the next week game was us. Throw in the injuries to the defense and seemed like a bad thing coming. Funny haven't seen any threads since cut down day whining about how we cut such a talent in Duke and what a mistake it was. Think Oliver will soon be the star of the D line. Funny too how overall young the line has got between Oliver, EJ, and Phillips. Even V Butler is only 26. I recall seeing Shaq exit the game injured, guess he did come back, I say "guess" as don't recall hearing his name much at all! Agree about the officiating call, I was kind of thinking the same. Wallace did make things worry some today, seemed like a step back from last season for his play. Allen was amazing, nothing more to say. Overall great game!!

Who gets promoted when Daboll becomes a HC?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of funny though, 3 or 4 years ago the rage was to hire these young offensive minds, Doug Pederson, Sean McVay, Adam Gase, Shanahan, etc. The Bills were ripped by many here for hiring another defensive guy. Seems though many of these offensive wiz's haven't exactly worked out that well as head coaches. Shannahan and McVay are still looking good, but the luster has worn off some from where it was 2 years ago or so. It might be while their creativeness bodes well as a coordinator, it just doesn't translate as well as expected to the HC role. Meanwhile McD is looking like a great hire. The other guy who also came more from the defensive side that seems to be doing a pretty impressive job IMO with little talent overall is Brain Flores. I'm sure there are some exceptions of these young guys I've forgotten who have suceeded, but overall didn't seem to work out as well as expected. Having said that I wonder if Daboll's hire as a HC will be as likely as expected, and more importantly, will it work? -
Bills 31, Fish 28 Game Balls!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I posted this last week and no one agreed, but with the cap tight next year I can see either Brown agreeing to a fairly large pay cut, or he may be gone. Not certain what the savings is, thought I read around $7 mil?
