You knew the SEC wouldn’t cancel their season
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah but with the other conferences going to conference play only, who do they have left to play? Will be interesting to see if the ACC drops their extra non conference game now that as Paul Finebaum stated the SEC told the ACC "Blank you"! -
Revisiting Clowney & a Look at Logan Ryan
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the coaching staff has a much better read on what they have in Norman. At his prime think he was better than Ryan. Playing in the Bills system, he could be close to that and they'd know the best. With everything going on with a likely large drop in salary cap for 2021, I wouldn't want to use up any more money this year as that can carry over to help next year. Think these guys are going to find that's the message league wide and will likely have to sign for much less. Even then, don't think it's worth it. -

It really wasn't that hard! -
I wonder if the NFL has done anything with the airlines to get reserved planes for travel. The airlines certainly have spare planes these days, park a plane in each NFL city that just sits there except when the team has an away game. Maybe even pay the crews to do nothing all week except fly the team to a game. Probably could find enough pilots and crew near every city to utilize them. Or at a minimum test the crew the day before the flight leaves. Should be cheap to leave a plane in a city these days.

Can't imagine the NFLPA agreeing to a bubble for six months. If you compare the time of the NBA bubble, they arrived in Orlando 2 to 3 weeks ago, but Sept 11th will be down to 4 teams left. That's about 3 weeks longer than NFL training camps will last and the amount of players on four NBA teams is less than one NFL roster. The only players I could see going for it would be the last couple of players on to make the team. On the Bills a guy like the DE Johnson going for it as if this season gets canceled, he'd basically be fighting two rookies classes for a roster spot. Not good odds for a guy that low on the roster to begin with. WRT to MLS, didn't two teams drop out? So how successful was that?

14 Positives on Marlins

Well when I said I total shut down I basically meant something like what NY did, to me that was a total shut down excluding essential businesses. Heard an interesting interview a month or two ago from the governor of Conn. which kind of supports what you just stated. He said that things worked and people listened in the NE as pretty much everyone either directly knew someone who had Covid, or they knew a health worker who told them first hand of conditions inside hospitals etc. Maybe a similar thing will happen now in Florida and Texas once things have got real bad, will see. -

The job market has already taken a hit and doubt things will get close to the levels of Jan 2020 until things are much better overall. The way I see it you have a choice as a country, shut everything down other than essential businesses like it was in March/April for about two months or keep limping along for the next year and a half. Even if you shut down, will there be some flair ups, yes, but as soon as they start, you need to do what is needed to put them out on a local level and local could be as large as an entire state. If you keep going the way we are, likely things like bars, movies, etc may not open for another year and for the most part polls say these days people overall would be in favor of that.. -

OK, reading it do vaguely recall, but don't believe it made the national news for months on end as being an issue either. Was it as widespread or more localized? -

There's also more recent studies contradicting the older ones stating kids can spread it just as much if not more than adults. What will be the answer once a teacher or school bus driver catches it and now are out for two weeks? Where will their replacement come from? Can't believe someone would take a job as substitute teacher these days based on what they pay and with this on top. -

Give it time, it likely will get worse. The article stated it's increasing. Covid in Florida has only been out of control for less than 2 months. BTW can you show me where the death rate for seasonal flu of kids is located -
The only saving grace may be that if it follows the pattern like in NY, by Sept 8th, these hard hit area may be much better. But many of the hard hit areas today are doing little to stop it's spread compared to what was done in NY so that may not happen either. Just read yesterday, they are considering re-opening the bars in Miami area. Got to keep those alcohol tax dollars flowing in.

From what I've read what makes everyone more concerned with Covid compared to seasonal flu is that it's much more contagious and easier to catch and spread. In addition we have had years of dealing with the flu and have a better idea on how to treat it. We're also much earlier in the cycle than seasonal flu. The hard hit areas have only been that way for maybe 2 to 3 months, then it jumps someplace else because very little to stop it's spread. By the end of 2020 at the rate wer're going likely will be at the same if not higher levels than seasonal flu. I just found one site that stated there were 30 deaths of kids under the age of 15 and that was only thru July 14th. Seasonal flu for whatever reason dies off in the warmer weather, believe that was something Trump had a hunch would happen too with Covid. Also when comparing it to the seasonal flu how come there were never reports of hospitals and ICU's overflowing in bad areas? I've yet to hear an explanation to that from everyone who says "this is just like the flu"! That was the idea behind flattening the curve, yes will still be bad, but at manageable levels as opposed to places that can't handle it. Again for whatever reason the flu seams to follow a much flatter spread so can keep up better. or just isn't as contagious, maybe because there's already a vaccine out there. -

I'd be very surprised if that's not an outdated number from maybe June 1st or so. Just this week, there were two stories of a child dieing, one in Florida, and think the other one was in Georgia. Early on heard of others too. Actually I just found one report as of July 14th that listed 30 died under the age of 15 -

Just heard an interview on the radio, didn't catch all of it, so not sure who it was from the Marlins who stated it didn't originate when the team was still located in Miami, it started after they left. So the people on the air connecting the dots were figuring he was implying it started when they went to Atlanta for an exhibition game. -

It's more than just temper tantrums, it's because we did kind of a half a****** attempt at it overall excluding a few areas. Admittedly because they didn't want to upset certain people. -

Agree the bubble concept, think is the only chance you have of making it work. Having said that can't imagine the players agreeing to a bubble and even if they did getting it to actually work for that amount of time. In the case of the NBA, they first went to Orlando 2 to 3 weeks ago. By Sept 11th 3 days after the 1st week of NFL games, they will be down to only 4 teams left, overall about 3 to 4 weeks more time than the NFL training camp. That's about the same number of people on one NFL roster. -
Jaguars to decline DT Marcell Dareus' option
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In a way the blame should go to Whaley and Rex for drafting him. You need a front office who looks more for the players with passion and character and drafts them over ones with the most talent. In the long run, those usually end up having a better career than the most talented ones do. (other than at contract time) -
Seahawks trade for Jamal Adams
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I recall when the Bills drafted Willis McGahee, comment was made by some writer(s) that using a 1st round pick on a guy that won't play for a year mean Greg Williams will be gone as their record won't improve much so he'll be fired and it did happen. See a similar thing here, these 1st round picks they just got will be a big help for the Jets next HC. In this case a little different as Gase maybe wanted him gone or at the least helped create a very bad situation with the team so he's part to blame. -
Report: bills wanted to draft Wilson/Prescott
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It could be 100% of the issue was QB and with Wilson everyone else would have looked better. I've always said more often front offices and coaches look good because they got lucky and drafted/signed the right QB. For the same reasons if Josh Allen does end up a failure, I wouldn't even think if getting rid of Beane or McD as getting the right QB is more luck than anything. 32 teams passed on Wilson twice and maybe half a 3rd time including the greatest of all time BB, teams passed5 times on Brady. Just seems for all the scouting done, there's still a large amount they get all wrong. -

I'm not so sure about that as even with Wilson they likely would have had a hard time surrounding him with talent. Could see Wilson too once his rookie contract was up saying, nice knowing you guys and bolting. Yes we could have franchised him, but only so long before it got too costly, or some other team made a big trade offer for him. Not sure that would have happened either as with a weak team around him Wilson may not have looked as good as he has to attract any big offers. Bottom line IMO, as you said with Nix and Whaley making the choices, we still may have had an overall mess, maybe a little better, repeated 8-8 seasons which could sneak into playoff some years, but also would have been strong enough to not get as good draft picks either. -
Can't argue too much with the rating except for the draft part. I think they've drafted well. Maybe Allen makes a big jump this year, but based on past play, maybe 26 is a little low, but not crazy low either. Seems many other rating are around there too. Hard to predict out more than one year so stating what will happen in 3 years is kind of useless, but of the teams ahead, can't see Brady, Rivers, or Brees still being anywhere near the top of their game. Will be interestign to see how Brady does play as likely has one of the best set of play makers around him in a long time. The limited off-season likely will have hurt him too.
