  1. He held out for his entire rookie training camp and was always behind the 8 ball. I think he juiced heavily before the combine and misrepresented himself because he could never naturally be the size he needed to be in order to play effectively in the NFL. For that reason, I don't wish him well at all. Scammer. Here's a quote from Aaron the bust: "Those years when I was struggling in Buffalo, I was really struggling," he said. "I was mad and pissed off, too. I was mad every single day. They wanted me to be something I wasn't" (yeah, a legitimate honest human being and team player...... how dare we......)
  2. Its not like doubling a defensive lineman. You cant throw two corners on the guy. Doubling just means the FS will cheat to his side or another CB will slide over to defend while the FS takes over in coverage on the second receiver.. That's the hybrid zone that Pettine used a lot last year with pretty good success. Millions of ways to beat this, pre-snap movement, bunching receivers, slot routes through traffic where it's impossible for 2 cover guys to follow. Don't forget Hackett's not an rookie anymore. Sammy will get a dozen targets per game.
  3. If you were from Roch or Cuse you wouldn't make that statement. Post game traffic is a huge hassle for us 20k fans east of Buff
  4. I want him to see the field better, improved footwork/accuracy, and effectively make preSnap/audible adjustments to take advantage of matchups. The wins will follow.
  5. Actually there are many times that bad teams end up winning the close games. Stevie was a multiple 1000 yards receiver who cost us several games with critical drops. That doesnt make us a bad team, he was a good NFL player. The Patriots with brady went 6 years without a playoff win, losing mostly close games. Does that mean they're a bad team?
  6. Did everyone see how our defense played without Byrd, and then with him? I saw zero difference. Aaron Williams, learned quickly and significantly impacted several games. He was essentially a rookie at the position, still made lots of plays, managed 4 picks on the year (which is more than Byrd has averaged over the last 4 seasons). The win now mentality doesn't mean overpaying your veterans. It means making decisions with a bias towards immediate results vs developing players to a peak that is one or two seasons down the road. We took a bet that Sammy Watkins will help us win more games than whoever we would have picked at 9, and our next year's 1st rounder combined. I love the bet. I can live with the results either way (hey, I'm a Bills fan, I know all about pain....)
  7. I'll give Mel a pass for thinking Russell Wilson wasn't worth the pick for Seattle. Everyone else passed on the guy a few rounds as well. But here's a few Kiper classics - "I think Ryan Leaf is more mature than Drew Bledsoe, he's very much a grown up 21 year old." He followed that up by saying Leaf's attitude would be an asset in the NFL and give him a mental edge over Peyton Manning. - "Wes Welker is not worth a second round pick. I don't care how much you like his work ethic ... he has done nothing to show a value that high" - Kiper had QBs Dan McGwire and Brett Favre rated evenly heading into the 1991 draft. - “JaMarcus Russell’s gonna immediately energize that Raider Nation, that fanbase, that football team- on the practice field, in that locker room- three years from now you could be looking at a guy that’s certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. You’re talking about a 2-3 year period once he’s under center. Look out because skill level that he has is certainly John Elway like.” - "Ki-Jana (Carter) could be the next Bo Jackson" - Kiper rated LaDainian Tomlinson as tied for the 25th-best player in the 2001 draft, and only the third-best running back that year, behind Mississippi's Deuce McAllister and Wisconsin's Michael Bennett. - Kiper said Matt Hasselbeck was "a waste of a pick" by the Packers (6th round 1998) When disagreed with about his rating of Mike Williams WR USC in the 2005 draft, Mel said "I'll see you at his Hall of Fame Induction." - In 1999, Mel said Akili Smith would give the Bengals "the type of passer they've not had since Boomer Esiason."
  8. Bring in the young and healthy and fast. Stevie u had a great heart and some wild games for sure. Kick ass in SF cause we want a 3rd next year !!!!
  9. In my opinion the left guard position is more important than the RT spot. I believe Hairston will rebound from his injury and hold his own at the RT position. He has some experience, the perfect size and athleticism to win the job. Plus you can help them with a TE. Left guard is critical. The Jets have the best 1/2 interior DL's in the league. NE just picked at beast DT in the first round, and Miami is tough underneath as well. 40% of our games are against these three teams and we need to be strong and athletic in the middle. You all saw what happened to us last year with weak LG play. We are fine at TE. I want 2 O linemen today.
  10. Best RT or LG on their board. Whichever one they don't get, they do the same thing in the 3rd. We have enough skill players now. Chandler and Gragg can carry the load at TE. That O line will be the difference in how everything pans out next year. We need two big mean athletic rookies to add to the line for years to come. They're out there we just need to grab them.
  11. Prisco gave the move a C-. Hilarious. He might as well just give it an A or an F. Sammy has never played an NFL down and we have no idea who would be on the board next year in the first and 4th round when it was our turn to pick. Instant draft grades are a joke.
  12. I disagree. Woods and Goodwin got open consistently last year and both have soft hands and quickness. Come out of breaks fast, run good routes, developed some chem with EJ and are good character guys. Stevie is very good but he has always seemed to be hurt down the stretch when we need him the most. I'm afraid he doesn't have the body or training regimen to be there for us. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe Watkins takes some heat off Stevie and he can be a role player. Either way we need a freakin left guard and right tackle or none of this matters because we can't have the same crappy protection we had last year.
  13. Whaley's smoking crack... I had (insert obscure player here) going in the fifth round in MY mock draft!
  14. Washington DC, Area 51, and The Ralph, all limited views from space. They don't want you to see the truth. Which is why they hired Russ Brandon.
  15. Gonna take more than a 3rd to swap spots w oakland. We got a 2nd last year to move down a handful of spots. Maybe a 3rd and 6th or something. Its a big risk, they'd better be sure about Evans.
  16. agreed. stevie isn't durable but he's a great wideout. people seem to forget that he's a timing guy-- he's not a go up and get the jump ball type of player. most receivers aren't. this season if EJ and stevie stay healthy and get their timing down everyone will shut up about SJ13 not being good enough. it's starting to annoy me.
  17. i hit WGR now and then. basically they could put any two guys in the 3-6pm slot to handle buffalo sports radio and the rating would eventually end up about where Mike and the Bulldog are: mediocre at best. funny at times, moody and temperamental (esp Schopp), biased toward hockey, and ultimately just bored to death of having to talk 15 hours a week about two pro teams that are perennially disappointing in terms of playoff success. still there is no excuse for being rude to older people or callers that speak more slowly or get intimidated by being on the radio. I have heard Schopp be a total dick to callers before and it's very uncool. I would rather have a three person team of Bulldog, Joe B and Howard Simon for the 3-6 slot. Throw in more Chris Brown, Murph, Clayton, bills players etc. They would be funnier and lighter but also more entertaining and informative.
  18. or at the very least Von Miller if Denver grabbed Cam.
  19. They do it if the opposing qb isn't checking his blindspot (assuming the slot receiver is even on that side). Most pro qb's don't make that mistake very often but if they do and the DC calls it, there is nobody quicker from zero to full speed in the LEAGUE than Robey.
  20. A versatile guy ranked top 20 in most mocks who can play guard tackle and even center if needed, for a team who desperately needs to upgrade its line. Yeah it does make sense.
  21. Best post In a long time Kelly. Versatility is key. These big fellas get hurt all the time. If Mayock is right in his assessment of Martin, he's exactly the guy we need. If Hairston rebounds from his injury this season and looks good in camp at RT (i think he will) then Martin goes LG. if not then Martin slides to RT. Marrone loves guys like that.
  22. I agree with you on the LG position costing us games and the WR coach mistake But Kolb getting hurt was bad luck, and Thad wasn't a rookie as you implied. Also you have to remember that our scouts and GM felt EJ was the best QB in the nation (jury is still out obviously), they traded back, still got their QB, picked up an incredible LB with the free pick, and then grabbed two promising and highly regarded WR's in Woods and Goodwin with the next two picks. Throw in Hughes, Lawson and Roby FA additions that were all productive NFL guys. I think that's very solid, savvy front office moves not just on defense (as you agreed) but also offensively. The best college QB in the nation and two NFL starter-quality wide receivers in one draft. I think Goodwin and Woods will have solid years, and if EJ does too, last year will be the best offensive draft we've had.
  23. That whole "preventing the Jets from getting Tavon Austin" thing is total lunacy. It implies that we knew the Jets draft board and which first round players would be better than others. As it turns out they chose the D rookie of the year Sheldon Richardson who is already the best interior lineman in the game. I WISH. they took Austin.
  24. agreed. otherwise it doesn't make sense considering WR isn't really a position of need for us. We have guys that can get open, and Williams is a stud. I think Chandler is above average and Gragg will start making a difference this year.
  25. I would give up our 2nd round pick to move up and get you Sammy. The problem is we already have 4 good receivers in Stevie, Williams, Woods and Goodwin, and we need to give our QB and runners better blocking and we need to add another beast to our defensive front 7 so we're going to have to let you pass buddy. I'll draft you for my fantasy team either way, so that'll be cool.
