  1. he is all we have left from the Lynch trade. ive always felt like we deserved something from the football gods for what turned out to be a wasted first round pick, even though he's a pro bowl stud runner. hairston has size and some experience. if he has the drive and work ethic he can be our 2015 swing tackle. a very important job if glenn or kujo go down.
  2. promo you really stirred up a hornets nest with this one. we always call soccer a 3rd world sport. one ball, 20 kids, field way too big, too many players out there etc. but i must admit the world cup can be amazing.
  3. so much of a receiver's career is based on who is throwing to him, the quality of the offensive line, the opponents they play against, other wideouts on their team, effectiveness of the running game, even the defense (are they playing from behind and in obvious passing situations more frequently?), coordinators etc. keep that in mind when you compare andre reed to eric moulds. Levy didn't even play Eric at WR his rookie season if I remember correctly. interestingly, Moulds still hold the NFL all time single playoff game receiving record for that wild card game against Miami. 240 yards. total domination. i still remember that game. The record for most receptions in a single NFL playoff game is 13, held by Thurman Thomas (tied with a few other dudes). It's safe to say Reed and Moulds were both dominant receivers who worked hard in the offseason and kept themselves in peak shape (unlike stevie aka "the magic groin") And they were both game changers who were fun to watch. Eric made training camp fun to watch as well because of his unbelievable catches. We used to call him the thoroughbred because he looked so much bigger and faster than everyone else out there. It remains to be seen what Sammy Watkins pro game will look like. It's harder to run some of those Clemson bubble screens and quick-outs in the NFL until you get respected for the deep ball. Otherwise you're jammed and played short and every catch you get is 2 or 3 yards and you are more susceptible to the INT. It will be fun to watch for sure, but EJ is going to need to be sharp for Sammy to be productive. I'm more worried about that than anything. Hackett and EJ have been given the offensive weapons, now they need to get tuned up and ready to use them. I'm more excited for this season than ever. And that's saying something.............
  4. why did i fall for this thread. why? My take is that WR speed is easy to find. Ball skills (tracking the ball, timing your jump, being physical and getting body position) are not easy to find. Maybe TJ has developed those skills this offseason. I have not seen it. We don't have an accurate enough QB for a small guy with below average ball skills. I'm starting a Nigel Bradham thread to counter your TJ Graham troller. I'll call it, "Nigel just needs a chance"
  5. or If they put a stupid blue line on both sides of the field that you couldn't put the ball past unless EVERYONE on your team was behind the line. Oh wait, they tried that in Hockey and somehow it stuck. Talk about a useless rule that kills the momentum of an otherwise amazing sport. I can't watch hockey because of it. For some real fun, try arguing with a Canadian about the hockey blue line rule and watch them attempt to defend it. They think it ADDS to the sport.
  6. Here in Rochester Golisano is known for his generosity. He bought the Sabres not to make money or because he was a hockey fan, he did it because the guy was raised here and cares about upstate NY and didn't want to see them leave Buff. I doubt you would see him do anything but try to improve the way Ralph managed his team.
  7. well, the defense won a superbowl. his whopping 39 yards didn't mean a thing. (can u smell the sour grapes?)
  8. It's hard to say yet because he was working with a rookie qb who worked through two injuries, installing a new offense, had a serious problem at left guard that constantly broke up plays and momentum, and CJ had a major issue with his ankle for most of the season. There are many facets to the OC job, and they go much further than play calling. He chose to play TJ Graham over larger receivers with better hands and ball skills which was questionable because it became apparent that EJ isn't a super accurate passer, he became predictable at times but began to loosen up as the season went on (2nd Jets game was very well called). This season will tell the tale on both hackett and EJ. they need each other to succeed in this league and hopefully they can find a way.
  9. well, he usually played and sometimes performed. no hate for stevie, he was a fun guy to watch. the drops never bothered me even though they cost us a few games here and there (pittsburgh a few years ago and last year the cinci drop). my issue with him was probably the same as the front office, he might not be worth the money especially considering he's inconsistent with his health and route running etc. he had good chemistry with fitz for sure, i'm surprised if the titans didn't consider trading for him.

  11. hilarious. oh wait until they really need him later in the season. that hammy/groin/ankle combo will really be acting up. harbaugh is going to hate that guy by the season's end.
  12. One common mistake I keep hearing is how the league wants more luxury suites. The league doesn't care. Suites are exempt from revenue sharing, they're simply a different and more profitable way to collect revenue for the owners. Lambeau added a bunch of new suites and they still haven't sold them all. Nobody needs to panic about lack of suites for Buffalo. My biz partner and bought into one at the Ralph (4 seats in a shared suite) and I couldn't stand being in there. I would put my 73 inch HD set and the environment of my living room on game day up against that experience any time and win. Being out in the stands is what the experience is about, not being inside a suite. The club level seats are awesome at the Ralph, all the amenities but still outside in the fresh air.
  13. I always saw Woods as a Lee Evans type of guy. A little more polished, better at crisp route running and getting open than yards after catch. Our YAC guys seem to be Sammy and Goodwin, which is why I see them as more suited for slot receiver. Maybe I don't understand the slot, but I thought it was generally for shorter routes and quick hits, then letting the receiver make something happen running with the ball.
  14. Last year it was Chandler with the most catches. He will repeat this year unless we get better protection and EJ has improved his accuracy from last season. Guys like Sammy and Woods need their qb to have at least 3 seconds on his feet and a passing lane opened for the qb in order to get anything but quick dink and dunk passes. I know Sammy is the YAC master, but last year we were pretty easy to defend with 8 men up, jamming WR's at the line and daring us to give EJ enough time to accurately throw a completion downfield. Remember our line will likely have three out of five new guys on it this year. There will be some growing pains. Our HC was an NFL offensive lineman and also coached that position in the big leagues. He needs to get a good line put together in the next 100 days and Hackett needs to build on last year's learning experiences and get a more unpredicable offense.
  15. Cordy Glenn and 5th round steal LG Cyril Richardson. Doesnt matter if its EJ, Thad or whoever throwing the ball, or who you handoff to, these two dudes are big and fast and will KEY this seasons surprise offense in the AFC. Hackett is a new man this year, and he's finally going to have more than 2 seconds to run a play. Cyril wins the LG spot by week 2 of camp.
  16. The numbers don't support your post. Brady over the last 4 seasons, qb rating 111, 105, 98, 87. Completion percentage 66, 65, 63, 60. The completion percentage is about 10% down from 4 years ago, on a gradual decline. That's about 60 more incomplete passes per season based on a typical Brady average attempts (he throws about 600 passes per season) than he was doing 4 years ago. He misses more than he did. He's definitely declined a little. The unfortunate part is that's like going from amazing to very very very good. Thankfully the Patriots stink at drafting or they'd have even more rings than they already have.
  17. Have you ever seen an nfl game in a dome? Its all artificial light, its way darker than open air stadiums, and it feels like arena football. I hate domes. So do Green Bay, NE, Chicago, Cleveland, Pitt and a ton of other northern cities that see football games as an outing with fresh air and the excitement of playing in the elements. I am not a traditionalist at all. Just go to a dome game or two and you'll see the difference, its night and day.
  18. Mary Wilson would never sell to that chump. Nothing to fear.
  19. Oh man could New England have used him this season. I feel so bad for him having the health issues because it would have been the perfect year for him to explode as a Brady favorite. No Hernandez, Gronk in less than peak form, their little white punk receivers always hurt or annoying the crap out of me with their Rudy impressions. Kenbrell Thompkins is horrible. As much as I would have hated to see New England do anything right, Donald was one of those guys that you root for no matter what. And he would have been a game changer for them. Great blocker, YAC master, gets separation, hard worker. He just never really had that breakout year opportunity because he never had the QB to get him there. Glad to hear he's OK.
  20. I swear these writers know the only people reading football articles now are the true fans, and we know that grading a draft takes years. They write these articles for shock value and controversy. Webpage hits and readership numbers. With Woods and EJ we still need at least another season to evaluate LAST years picks for gods sake. Whenever you see the words 'draft grade' just skip the article and laugh.
  21. Except the guy who caught the most passes on the team last year and is 6'7 with great hands.
  22. thanks Fixxx. that TD at 3:43 was amazing body control wow. watkins, williams, woods, goodwin i"ll take it. Oh and Freeman had some unbelievable throws in there too. Never thought of him as a touch passer like that.
  23. I'm amazed that Jax didn't take the trade down deal. Who in the world was going to take Bortles before 9? Did Cleveland have Bortles ahead of Manziel on their draft board? For a team that really needs a spark to save it's franchise, Jax could've got their man and had 2 1st rounders next year and two 4th rounders.
  24. You obviously cant evaluate this trade up until it plays out. This year the 9th overall pick for us probably would have been a right tackle prospect. Elite receivers have far more impact than a RT will. Next year when Cleveland is on the clock with our first round pick, whaley will look at our draft board and know who we gave up for Sammy. Until then this debate is meaningless.
  25. Agreed. The rule is silly, especially in light of the decriminalization approach that most states have now. But you have to be a complete idiot to get nailed twice. Unreal. I feel so sorry for Cleveland fans. What a letdown.
