I think I'd look at other options.

Leslie Frazier "taking a year off from coaching" per Bills PR
BigAl2526 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
This presents a bit of a dilemma for the Bills. They have to decide how much they want Frazier after his "sabbatical." The also need to decide what the likelihood is of him deciding he wants to return after a year off. At 65 (in a year) he might decide he's had enough of the grind of coaching. As an articulate and somewhat charismatic personality, he could probably find a home in the media that was a lot less stressful and pays better. The Bills have to make that assessment because it might be difficult to maintain quality defensive coordination with temporary measures. If you promote from within, are you getting the best possible option? If McDermott takes on the role of coordinator for a year, will his other duties suffer? Is it even possible to hire a quality guy from the outside who would be willing to come in for a year with the term "interim" attached to his title? If you settle for a temporary solution to organize and coordinate your defense, is the defense going to suffer? -
Players wanna play. I understand that. Just because he's in the CFL doesn't mean he'll never get another shot in the NFL. Of course, there's no guarantee he will either, or that he would if he had stayed on the Bills practice squad.

The Bills are definitely thinking Benford can move to safety. However, it's a bet they will and should hedge. I agree with those who think the Bills will likely pick a safety in the draft. I won't try and predict the round.

It's possible Trenton Simpson will still be available when Buffalo picks, and that he would be BPA. He's a little smaller than Edmunds, but faster.

I answered Broderick Jones. I think there is a chance he drops. I don't think Skoronski will drop. Jones is a bit raw, but very athletic and I think he is position versatile, that he can play any of four spots on the O-line. I don't know if he can play center. I wouldn't mind if Bijan Robinson were the pick. I also wouldn't mind Smith-Njigba or Hyatt at WR. I think Gibbs and Michael-Schmitz are reaches. I think Q. Johnsson and Addison are probably gone. I think Zay Flowers is a slot receiver, and I don't especially want to use a first round pick on a slot guy. Nor do I want to use a first round pick on a TE with Dawson Knox already on the roster. There are also a couple defensive players I wouldn't mind being Buffalo's pick. I almost think the best outcome could be a trade down. I think Buffalo might be able to get better value in the top third of round 2 than at #27.

Shakir Training with Moulds
BigAl2526 replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interestingly, someone pointed out that Shakir had a higher drop rate than Gabe Davis last season. Now, I don't dislike Shakir and I don't recommend that Buffalo dump him, but both Shakir and Gabe Davis have a lot of growing to do. I hope working out with Moulds is helpful and that Gabe finds some way to improve his hands. -
Roschon Johnson is my sleeper RB for the Bills. The question is, when do you take him. Round one or two is obviously too high. When I've seen him rated, it's normally been in rounds 5-7, but he has elite traits and just might go earlier than the pundits think.. NFL Draft Scout estimates his 40 time at 4.34 (a low of 4.25 and a high of 4.42) NFL Draft Buzz estimates his 40 time at 4.39). Those are Saquon Barkley type numbers. There are also a couple of other running back possibilities for the Bills after Round 1. Zach Charbonnet out of UCLA. He's almost as big as Johnson and runs in the low 4.4s. The downside is he'll take a 2nd round pick to get him, and he might be gone by the time the Bills pick at the bottom of the second round. Zach Evans out of Old Miss is another one. His speed is similar to Charbonnet's. He's a little smaller, but still is a good sized back at 6' and 215. The Bills could get him in the third, or possibly the fourth round.

Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal
BigAl2526 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
He impressed at his pro day running a 4.44 at 6'2" and 206 lbs. Coming out of college, he was seen as lacking toughness and tackling ability. I would guess he needed to get a lot stronger. Where he is at this point in his development is anyone's guess. Worth a shot as a fringe player with possible upside. -
Would you guys trade one of Elam/Benford/Jackson?
BigAl2526 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
The move of Benford to safety seems likely. Jackson's trade value looks pretty limited IMO. Maybe he would bring a fifth round pick, but nothing any higher than that. A fifth may be optimistic. Elam is the only CB on the Bills roster who possesses serious speed. I think the Bills would be foolish to part with that. -
The odds of him returning have pretty much fizzled away. The only other big name free agent on the Bills'' roster is Poyer. I think he's worth trying to resign, but the Bills need to be careful on the contract length and the terms. They don't want to find themselves locked into a long term deal with a player whose play on the field has declined beneath the level of his compensation and is destined to fall further because of his age. Of course, if Edmunds leaves, that creates a hole on the roster that Buffalo needs to fill either through the draft or in free agency. It will take a high draft choice to get play that is close to what Edmunds has given the team regardless of what haters say.

Quote from Josh highlighting the Bills' flawed thinking...
BigAl2526 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Josh meant that literally, it would mean a lot of changes to the Bills that just don't look as if they are in the cards. Reid runs a version of the West Coast offense liberally enhanced with zone read option plays that were Pat Mahomes' staple in college. Buffalo is not going to adopt that. Kansas City isn't even the same from season to season. With the departure of big play receivers from their roster in the 2022 season, Kansas City adopted a predominantly short passing game, relying heavily on Travis Kelsay. So, what did Josh mean? I am not sure we could know unless we asked him. If I were to guess, I would say that he's probably talking about a commitment to excellence and the willingness to adapt to the skills of the players you have. I'm not sure that the secret to winning multiple Super Bowls is all that complex, but I do think that a team can do everything the way they should and still not get to the Super Bowl, not to even mention win it. That's because there are other good teams trying to use a very similar formula to reach, then win the Super Bowl. On top of everything else, teams need a certain amount of luck. -
I'm not sure it's impossible that the Bills sign OBJ, but given the cap situation, it would be really tough, and would hamper the Bills' efforts to retain Poyer or Edmunds or both, not to mention ruining any effort to sign another meaningful free agent. Adam Henry sounds like a good hire regardless. H'e got pleny on his resume.

Bills 2023 schedule 7th hardest (based off of 2022 opponents)
BigAl2526 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
The schedules of Miami, the Jets and NE are technically tougher because it is tougher for them to play buffalo than for Buffalo to play them. Throw out the game with each other, and I think it's likely, Buffalo's schedule is tougher than those of the Bills' AFC East opponents. That's the way the league has designed scheduling to work. The better a team's record, the tougher their non division schedule is supposed to be. -
Khalil Shakir / answer for WR 2 / Makes Sports Illustrated
BigAl2526 replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not smart enough to make a prediction. I do have a feeling that Khalil has something of an opportunity in the slot. I'm not writing Gabe Davis off on the outside, but the pressure is on him to breakout in a major way if he wants to hold on to that #2 receiver spot. -
Daboll/Hodgins - Does their success bother you?
BigAl2526 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not at all. Regarding Daboll, I think it's easier for a really good coach to create some instant success as long as there is a modicum of talent on the team, than for a really good coach to emerge from that small group of teams that are really good and win the Super Bowl. Zac Taylor and Andy Reid are obviously very good coaches. There are a few other too that are trying to get in the big game from the AFC every year. Please don't read that as complacency that Buffalo has only made it to the divisional round for a while now. I'm just saying that McDermott had quick success in Buffalo too, and quick success doesn't necessarily mean Daboll is a better head coach. -
I think there is a chance that Buffalo drafts Robinson. I don't think he's the only RB who could come in and upgrade the spot that Singletary will leave if he doesn't re-sign. I've just recently become intrigued by Roschon Johnson. He's got excellent size, and at least some people think he's 4.4 fast. The question is where to draft him. One website lists him as a 7th rounder, which seems odd given his physical traits. I've seen him mocked to the Bills in the third round. I don't know if that's too high, but he sure looks to me like he's got a higher ceiling than Devin Singletary or Zach Moss, who both went in the third round.

After Hamlin had his cardiac arrest and was treated for it, two questions needed to be answered before a return to football could be considered. First, could he make a complete recovery? Second, was there anything about his initial cardiac incident that would put him at greater risk for a cardiac incident in the future, should he return to football? Once those two questions can be answered in a favorable way, it seems to me that it should be entirely up to him and the Bills (or whatever team he aspires to play for) to decide if he should play.

I don't see this as desperation or insanity. I think it's quite logical. Holcomb is very familiar with McDermott's defensive scheme. This tells me that McDermott is absolutely committed to pursuing and tweaking the defensive scheme he has always used. Frazier, I think, has brought his own biases to the scheme. I think bringing Holcomb in actually shortens the leash a bit on Frazier. McDermott is actually saying to Frazier, "We're going to run this a little more like I used to run Carolina's defense." Specifically, I think that means being a bit more aggressive. McDermott is not into heavy blitzing, but I think he is inclined to do a little more than Frazier is, following the thinking of his mentor who coached defense for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jim Johnson.

Joe Buscaglia’s Early Thoughts on the Bills Needs Going Into 2023
BigAl2526 replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm still unsure on Terrell Bernard. Otherwise, I think Joe is preaching to the choir. Most of what he says seems pretty self-evident. Not saying he's wrong about Bernard. I just want to see another training camp before I write him off. -
Bills now no longer have 2 fifths but one fifth and one sixth
BigAl2526 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wondered about that. I saw a 7 round mock draft today, and Buffalo's high 5th round pick was missing. I didn't drop down to the 6th, so I didn't know they had picked up a 6th. -
UPDATED - v3.0 (FINAL) on p.13 - Gunner's 2023 Mock Draft
BigAl2526 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
My thinking is that it may be that there are no first round values left in the draft when Buffalo picks. Beane's opinion last year was that Kaiir Elam was the last first round value left. If the first-round quality isn't there, the Bills could conceivably drop back ten spots and still pick up a player with high second round value and have an extra day two draft pick to show for it. There is no reason to trade up in this draft for an interior offensive lineman because there are no elite ones available. -

BigAl2526 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
NFL Draft Buzz lists Rice's 40 time as 4.45. The real burner in this draft class is Jalin Hyatt, listed a 4.29. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Rashee-Rice-WR-SMU https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Jalin-Hyatt-WR-Tennessee
