  1. Milano has been a very good player when healthy and seems to be a particularly good fit for the schemes that the Bills play on defense. Unfortunate for him (and the Bills) that he has been injured this season. His absence hurts the defense and the back-ups have played poorly. Will be interesting to see if we can keep him with a short term contract or if another team will be willing to pay him notwithstanding that he will miss significant time this season and what some would characterize as being prone to injury The salary cap will also be a factor in free agency, both for Milano's prospects for a long-term deal from the Bills or another team and the ability of the Bills to retain him on a short or longer term contract..
  2. Mercilus would be a great addition, but don't we need help at MLB as well?
  3. Didn't the Panthers have a historically bad defense last year? We already have Butler and Addison from that defense. Would Poe really be of any help (a third defensive lineman from that team)?
  4. Unfortunately, he is unreliable. We can't wait on him to develop during the season or later. He has to go.
  5. It would really help the offense if Moss started showing something. Hard to tell if the lack of any production is due to a complete failure by the o-line to create holes, but I am concerned that he seems slow. I hope that this is not the case.
  6. Matakevich was a luxury signing that we did not need if he was not a serviceable back-up linebacker in our defensive scheme. This past offseason's free agent signings have not contributed, which is a real problem generally and specifically because of injuries. Have to think with the salary cap staying flat that a bunch of these guys will not be with the Bills next season (including AJ, Matakevich and Butler).
  7. 1. D-line is a mess. Benching two players for two practice squad players is not a recipe for success. None of the free agent additions on defense other than maybe Jefferson has played well (Butler, Addison and Klein), and players like Oliver have taken a huge step back. We have a new d-line coach, who I know is experienced, but is he part of the problem? 2. O-line play has been almost as bad. Few running lanes and pass protection has been poor. The ability of Allen to move around the pocket and run for yards has masked this reality. 3. Not sure I have any understanding as to what our offensive game plan was for this game. Play calling seemed uneven, and there is too much reliance on Allen to make something happen. 4. Tough to watch a game where an opposing team can run that well against your defense for an entire game. Did not seem that any in-game or half-time adjustments were made on offense or defense, which is a recurring theme as the Bills have been out-coached the last two games in particular. 5. Very disheartening to play so poorly two weeks in a row on national television.
  8. Our d-line is awful. No pressure and can't stop the run against second string KC offensive linemen.
  9. I think Milano is very good and is missed when not in there. Addison and Butler do not seem to be adding anything. I think injuries and the free agent additions (other than Jefferson) have hurt the defense.
  10. Edmunds may be hampered significantly by his shoulder injury, but even last year his play was, at best, uneven. Middle linebacker may not be the right position for him and he may never develop into a very good linebacker wherever he plays. Oliver does seem pretty average so far, but he would have more opportunities to make plays if he had a true run stopping/space eater defensive tackle. Coming into the season, we had poor depth at linebacker, and it is hurting us now. I expected more from Klein, but he may not fit the current scheme which seems to depend on linebackers with speed and who can cover. Our drafts under Beane have been better overall, but Edmunds, who was expensive in terms of the draft capital used to move up and select him, Oliver and Ford have all been disappointing overall. We really need more from these first and second round draft picks.
  11. Awesome news! I was a little worried that he would have a lot of leverage and would potentially leave. Hope Beane is next.
  12. SPACs have become a popular investment vehicle for, among others, private equity firms, hedge funds, and strong management teams with ties to certain industries. I believe that SPACs now represent a majority of the initial public offerings each year. The key is finding an appropriate target company and close the business combination. Typically, once the business combination is announced, the best indicator of future success is how the SPAC's stock trades after the announcement of the transaction. If it trades up, the transaction will generally close. Probably a very good time for a SPAC to be looking at distressed companies and assets in the energy area, but there are a significant number of SPACs looking for business combination target companies right now.
  13. Terry Kath was awesome and way underrated. Big fan of Knopfler, and think he is underrated as well. Surprising myself that I kind of agree about Lindsey Buckingham. Interesting style, and "Go Your Own Way" is a guilty pleasure. Always thought Alvin Lee (Ten Years After--I'd Love to Change the World) does not get enough acclaim. Same with Michael Schenker. Overall, will always favor Clapton during the Cream and Derek and the Dominos periods.
  14. I have been wondering when there would be some news about discussions among the Bills and McD/Beane about contract extensions (I believe they each signed five year deals). I hope that the stuff going on with PSE doesn't impact the interest of McD and Beane to re-up with the Bills (or serve as an excuse to not do so). If the Bills make the playoffs again this year and show further progress, McD and Beane would be hot commodities when their contacts end with the Bills.
  15. Not sure that Cooks will be able to stay healthy. I believe he had a couple of significant concussions last season that kept him out of a number of games. I also think he has a prior history with concussions (at least five in total). You can never know whether a player will be healthy in any given season or over longer periods, but Cooks' concussion history is concerning. For this reason alone, I would rather have Diggs.
  16. Singletary missed games last year because of injury and you can't expect that a starting running back will be healthy for an entire season. A running back by committee would be great for the health of Singletary and for the Bills in general, particularly since Gordon and Singletary are different types of backs.
  17. These articles perpetuate a perception that may be changing by including a number of negative quotes from players who have no real experience with Buffalo and who may have no idea about the current team and coaching environment. i kind of wish they would stop publishing these types of articles until after we have had some additional winning seasons and playoff appearances (hopefully over the next couple of years).
  18. Did not understand the play calling in the second half of the game, particularly the fourth quarter. Gave up on the run and should have had more screen passes. Overall, we seemed like a different team in the second half. We looked so poised in the first half. Not in the second half. Josh played really undisciplined in the second half. Just a really strange game, and, ultimately, very unsatisfying.
  19. Some thoughts below. 1. It is comforting to see Allen showing improvement in his ability to throw the short passes. He is clearly a work in progress, and he will need to show that he can connect on the long throws like he did last year, but he does seem to be showing that he can get better. Overall, Allen is a great fit for McD, the team and Buffalo in terms of his work ethic, demeanor and personality, but he will need to continue to improve and show that he can have success throwing the ball when the Bills need it (i.e., when they get behind in games or in a high scoring battle). 2. Our recent first round picks (Allen, Edmunds and Oliver) were boom or bust types to a degree when drafted, and they all seem to be a work in progress. I really don't know whether Edmunds is playing well or not. Does he have the instincts to be the long-term answer at MLB? Does he move over to OLB if Lorenzo Alexander retires after this season? Way too early to make judgments about Oliver, but I would like to see more, even in his first year. 3. While I am not sure that our recent first round picks are fully meeting expectations at this point, particularly given the draft capital used to move up for Allen and Edmunds, I have been impressed with some of the later round picks, including Knox, Sweeney, Darryl Johnson, Siran Neal, Singletary and Taron Johnson. I am confident in the ability of our front office to identify talent, as noted below. 4. It has been years since I have felt this way (since Levy, Polian and Butler), but I am really comfortable with McD as our head coach, Beane as our GM and the quality people we have in our front office. I hope they are here for the long-term, because I believe over time they will build a very strong program (and have already put into place some building blocks). This team, at least at this point, lacks the circus atmosphere and in-fighting that we seem to be seeing with so many other teams. 5. I did not understand all of the free agent signings this past off-season for the o-line by the front office. I understand now with the various injuries, and it is a nice change that the Bills have some depth at the position given where other teams are struggling with injuries to their o-line (as the Bills have in past seasons) Not sure if all the new players are starting caliber, but, at a minimum, they do seem to be quality depth. 6. Teams will continue to run the ball on us until we show that we can stop it. I would expect this from the Browns tomorrow, and we have the Ravens and Steelers upcoming on our schedule. 7. Next year will be a critical year. We will have significant cap space, in part because our young players (i.e., White, Allen, etc.) will still be playing on their rookie contracts. We will go into next season with fewer needs than this past off season, but you can make the argument that the defense will need some significant upgrades at d-line and linebacker. A pass rushing end and a run stopping DT should be high on the list. A number one WR is on the list for the offense. If Brady retires or moves to another team, even better for next season. 8. I don't care that we have had an easy schedule. We are 6-2, and I am enjoying this season. We have had to deal with the Pats and Brady for so many years (playing them twice), so there is no reason to apologize for a soft schedule, particularly since the AFC is weak overall this season, and other teams are benefitting from this as well.
  20. Wouldn't they get a third rounder as a compensatory pick if he leaves as a free agent after the season (I recognize that there may be other factors)? If this is the case, then the Chargers are going to want at least a third rounder in this year's draft.
  21. Did seem that we were out coached today on both sides of the ball, which surprised me, particularly with the defense. In this kind of weather, we should have been more prepared for an attack focused on rushing and short passes. They ate us alive with the screen passes, which they used frequently. On offense, I sometimes have no understanding of Daboll's game plan. Hard to tell if it is Josh Allen's efforts to implement the play calling, or something else. Of course, Josh Allen needs to play better and not turnover the ball as much as he does. His fumble before the end of the half was a momentum changer. Embarrassing to lose this way at home, but we really have not beaten anyone decisively so far this season. Still, in terms of our record, it is a good start and we have a very winnable game next week with the Redskins. If we win next week, we are 6-2 with a good shot to go at least 10-6 (and hopefully make the playoffs).
  22. While I agree that we may have other needs, some of which may be more pressing as the season progresses, I would do this deal. I think it is unrealistic to think that Gore will stay healthy for all of our remaining games and that Singletary will be fully healed from his hamstring injury for the remainder of the season. Gordon may not be elite, but he is more than solid.
  23. We certainly had our opportunities. Defense was great today. The interceptions killed us, as did the blocked punt. We were out coached on special teams. Out punter did not have a good game (blocked punt and shanked another). The punter for the Pats helped them significantly with field position. We will never beat the Pats in a game if our QBs throw four interceptions.
  24. Singletary looked good in the fourth quarter. Gore should be a change of pace back going forward for the Bills. I am not sure that we have the depth we will need for an entire season at RB, which is a bit worrisome, and I do think we need more speed. Maybe this gets addressed next offseason.
  25. The Texans have Lamar Miller as their starting RB. Not sure why he isn't mentioned, but their back-up RB situation looks awful.
