The Athletic - some grim stats (new Tim Graham piece)
jahnyc replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wonder how these stats compare to last season at this point and interesting that there appear to be significant breakdowns on both the offense and defense (and not resulting from new players). Also a bit disconcerting is that these stats are coming out of a series of games against teams that are not considered strong teams this season. We will face better teams as the season progresses. -
It is concerning that Penix is not a good QB and we made him look really good.
-
Keon is absolutely trending toward bust category and would rather have Worthy or McConkey, but that draft class of WRs is pretty disappointing overall so far. Definitely not living up to the hype as one of the greatest WR draft classes of all time.
-
I think trading for one or more impact players before the trading deadline is unlikely. Our best hope is that some of the players that have been injured will be back after the bye week (or soon thereafter) and the players that were injured tonight will be ready to go after the bye week. We also will get a couple of reinforcements for our D-line back from suspension. Unfortunately, I am not sure Jones will be back this season if he "popped" a calf and Strong's injury seems murky and serious enough to raise concerns about his return this season or at all.

10/13/2025 Bills at Falcons - Post game thread
jahnyc replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately, Coleman does seem to be a bust. Palmer was having a good game until he was injured, but there really was no one who could step up after, and certainly not Coleman. Shakir is great in the slot, but. as a group, our WRs are not good and having Samuels and Palmer out was too much to overcome. Our safeties are also playing poorly. Bishop may be a border line bust at this point and Rapp would be better as the third safety. I am not sure what Bishop brings to the defense. He misses tackles, takes bad angles and is generally poor in coverage. -
10/13/2025 Bills at Falcons - 2nd half game thread
jahnyc replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, injuries are hurting us badly tonight, but our rebuild on defense with draft picks and free agents is paying zero dividends right now. With Palmer out, it is obvious we can't count on Coleman for anything. He is getting zero separation. -
I guess there is room now to bring back the suspended players without making cuts from the roster.
-
Simmons would be a fantastic addition, but I can't see this front office doing it after spending so much recent draft capital on Sanders and Walker, as well as Ogunjobi in free agency.
-
Hopefully, something happens soon to get the benefit of the upcoming bye week for the Bills.
-
That would make sense, although I had understood from news reports that he was injured at practice.

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
jahnyc replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
What I don't understand is why Worthy seems to be open much of the time and Coleman can't get separation from DBs, given the differences in their physical builds. Is it KC's offensive scheming that puts Worthy in positions where he can avoid being jammed at the line of scrimmage? Is it Worthy's speed and quickness that gets him room to operate versus Coleman's inability to get separation because he lacks those traits, or is it something else? -
A Few Thoughts about the Pats Game - Post yours as well
jahnyc replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Point #5 is spot on regarding Coleman. I really want him to succeed but I don't see it happening. He is a one trick jump ball pony. Shakir is great in the slot, but we don't have a boundary wide receiver as good as a 30 plus year old Diggs coming off a torn ACL last season. I know we had limited dollars to acquire a WR for last season and this season, but Samuel and Palmer seem like wasted investments. Secondary has been bad, but I see almost no chance that the Bills try to trade for a CB. That would be an admission by the front office that signing White and drafting Max and Strong was a poor use of available resources this offseason. Linebacker is a big concern now, particularly if Williams' injury is long term and Milano goes on IR. We have no depth at this position. -
The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
jahnyc replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
Assessing Coleman has been really difficult given the way the ball is spread around on offense. Seems there are stats that show his ability to separate is not great, which is a problem, if true. If he is not effective on deeper routes than his value to the offense is diminished since we have players that already fill what is basically a slot receiver type skill set (i.e., Shakir). -
Maybe the Bills are waiting to see if there are long term injuries at CB during the course of the season (i.e., opening the return from IR window for Max only after another long term injury occurs at the CB position). This would make sense if they are concerned about the need to release players on the current active roster as players come back from IR and suspension.

I think one aspect of the Miami game that was an aberration on offense was the lack of designed run plays for Josh and Josh's reluctance to run after scrambling, which I think was a direct result of trying to protect from further problems with his nose injury.

Some Thoughts re Bills This Season and Miami Game
jahnyc replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have come full circle from the post-Kelly era. -
Some thoughts below: 1. I think we need to at least give the coaching staff some credit for the lack of turnovers and relatively low number of penalties so far this season (and, with respect to turnovers, last season as well). Maybe it is mostly from the players, but coaching focus on taking care of the ball must also be a part of it. We do have a well coached team, even if there are things that continue to aggravate us, including clock management, challenges and our bend but not break defense. 2. What happens in terms of the roster when Max, Hoecht and Ogunjobi return to the active roster? Maybe there will be injuries and players going on IR, but if not, who gets released? 3. I think White still has great instincts and is strong in the run game. He had some issues against Miami, but the Bills generally do not have a lot of speed in the defensive backfield. I hope Max can contribute this season because he does have physical traits to be what is currently missing among the DBs. 4. Our mix of receivers on offense is interesting. Maybe the best overall group of TEs in the NFL and Shakir looks great again this season. I know that there is a lot of debate about our WRs, but I do think a WR who can stretch the field would further open things up for the rest of the receiver group. Not going to get one during the season. 5. Good to see James Cook getting more carries on a percentage basis as compared to last season. He looks great, and I assume this is conscious decision from the coaching staff. Unfortunately, Davis has not looked good so far, although it could be because he has not had an opportunity to get in a rhythm. 6. Listening to an interview with Douglas before the game with the Dolphins, it was interesting to hear him say that the Bills "do things the right way" and have an organized system that everyone in the building follows. 7. Nice to see that we are getting some contribution from our draft picks. Surprised about Hawes and disappointed in Jackson. Really thought that Jackson would contribute right away when he was drafted. 8. Shaq Thompson was a pleasant surprise last night against the Dolphins. He contributed, and hopefully that will continue during the season if he can get healthier and stay healthy, particularly if Milano is out for a longer than anticipated period of time.

Best win since the comeback against the Houston Oilers in the playoffs. -

Bills will be okay, but I do think the front office is way off on their assessments of our safety, 1 technique DT and wide receiving positions. These positions are weak and were last season as well. Another note: our new punter is bad. -

Babich is in over his head. Coleman has done nothing tonight and is a total non-factor. Brady is having a very off night of play calling on offense. -
Fantasy Football - Draft Discussion Only
jahnyc replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks, JH. I typically start three RBs (one as a flex) in my league since it is a standard scoring league, so I usually draft two RBs in the first two rounds and sometimes a third RB in the third round since there are so few RBs available that play a majority of the snaps. I agree that Chase is in position to have another great year and if I was picking a bit later in the first round (maybe sixth or seventh) I probably would draft him. Josh Allen also is tempting, especially if he is available in the second round. -
Fantasy Football - Draft Discussion Only
jahnyc replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have my draft tomorrow night and I am picking 4th. Standard scoring (no PPR). I will draft a RB in the first round. If the choice is between Henry and Jacobs, who would you pick? A little worried that Henry will not be in for 3rd down passing plays and may lose some carries in general to other backs for the Ravens. If Gibbs is available, I would pick him before Henry and Jacobs. If Bijan Robinson is available, I would think about taking him (I know that he is generally ranked higher than Gibbs, Henry and Jacobs), but the Falcons' offense scares me a bit with a second year QB. -
Bills Initial Roster - No real surprises
jahnyc replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Carter's roster spot may not be safe after players come back from suspensions and IR. -
A little weird that no news about Tre has leaked so far.
