The Bills need to upgrade their talent at WR. Unfortunately, I can't see us being able to acquire a number one type WR in free agency given the cost, and a trade would be expensive in terms of draft capital and likely require a new expensive contract.

Panthers @ Bills, Preseason game 3, Sat 8/24 1pm

Cutting Bass will cost us approximately $3 million in cap space. I don't think we can cut him this season. -
How many of y'all drafted Shakir as your FF sleeper?
jahnyc replied to appoo's topic in The Stadium Wall
Have not had my league's draft yet, but I would consider taking Shakir late. Regarding Cook, will he get the goal line carries? My league is standard scoring, -
Our outside WRs are bad. Unreasonable to think that Coleman could be our X WR on day one as a rookie.

Bills @ Steelers - Preseason Game 2 - Sat 8/17 7PM

Agree that some of our draft picks looked good tonight, particularly Hardy and Solomon (hope the calf injury is minor). Andreessen was really good tonight. Our QB situation after Allen is rough. Trubisky looked bad and may have injured his ankle. At WR, still not convinced that we have much after Shakir and Samuel, but we will see. Do we have a WR that can stretch the field for the offense? -
Matt Milano had surgery for "significant bicep injury", out indefinitely

We now have two really bad contracts with Milano and Miller. Not their fault that they have had tough injuries, but we really need to re-tool and I am wondering if we will need at least another season after this one to clean-up our cap situation. -

Of course Spector now has a calf injury. I have thought that he could be a surprise quality LB for the Bills, but his injury history is becoming a significant concern. Calf injuries always seem to turn into something that either lingers or doesn't get better without a lot of rest. -
Just kind of weird that no player on the Bills stood out in a good way in the game. Usually, there are at least a few good performances, even in a preseason game where we lost by a lot.

Prisco only has one player on the Bills (Josh Allen) in his top 100 NFL players for 2024. Not surprising, and probably consistent with the view that the Bills have a number of solid players but only Josh Allen as a true blue chip caliber player.

I think this is the second set of OTAs that Douglas has not participated in. Is he unhappy about his contract situation?

Taking the Diggs hit this year provides some flexibility for next offseason in terms of re-signing current players, free agency and further releases, such as Miller if he is not back to form.

Texans WR Nico Collins gets 3 year $72 Million extension
jahnyc replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall
Seems that Diggs is a one-year rental for the Texans given that he is a free agent after the season and the big contract agreed to with Collins. -
What to do with the post June $10 M that will be available
jahnyc replied to Magox's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think we can restructure Allen (or any other player) more than once during an offseason, so I don't think additional amounts from a further Allen restructure will be available. -

It is the Bills. Pretty forward looking by our management. -
This Will Be The Make Or Break Year For This Regime

Interesting upcoming season for McD. He showed his coaching ability in his first year with the Bills coaching team that was not particularly talented to the playoffs and ending the playoff drought. He has more talent now, but less than in past years, so hopefully coaching will be able to bridge the current gaps so we can have a return to the playoffs this season. -
A step back given the loss of Diggs, rotational defensive line players, ST players and overall depth. I really don't see any improvements to a roster that I thought already was below the talent level of a number of other teams, including San Fran, Baltimore, Miami and KC. I think the Bills will miss Morse, Floyd and Diggs in particular. I know that we were hamstrung by the salary cap this season, but the Bills really needed to improve their overall talent level. Post initial free agency and the draft, I don't think we have moved significantly in that direction.
-
Our draft feels like a draft to fill depth more than anything else. Did we pick the best player at any of the positions for which we drafted? Not according to the draft experts, but time will tell. If the goal was to draft players to be starters this season, I would have expected a more aggressive effort to move up in the draft at key positions of need, such as WR. I assume that Coleman will be a starter, but he seems to be pegged as more of a slot than anything else, not a needed #1 or #2 WR. I guess Van Pran Granger and Bishop will get shots, but I don't see them as full-time starters this season, but we will see.
-
More than the other picks that they have traded, this is the pick that the Bills can really leverage, but if they want a particular WR, I expect that they will make the pick because some of the teams drafting immediately after them seem to have significant needs at WR (i.e., the Patriots and the Chargers).
-
Can we even make a trade for Aiyuk or Higgins if we wanted to? I thought that a player traded for would need to fit under the acquiring team's cap before it can be consummated. Would not be able to do that with Aiyuk or Higgins at this point.

So Billsy. Not even picking on the first night of the draft with significant needs. -

I think it will be Keon Coleman for the Bills. -
Rumor: Bills trying aggressively to move up for a WR in round one
jahnyc replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bummed, but if the Bills don't move up in the draft for Thomas or Worthy, I think they will take two WRs in the first four rounds. -

I think selecting Worthy at 28 would be reasonable value if he is available, but I am not seeing anything that suggests that he is or will become a true #1 WR, which, if true, means we would still need to fill that role. -

Seems like Odunze wants to go to Chicago to join Williams. Not sure if Chicago is planning to draft him at #9, but if we really want him, probably need to move in front of the Bears if he would otherwise be there at their pick. I don't think we will be able to pull this off, but I hope I am surprised tomorrow evening. If this does happen, I also hope that Odunze will be excited and appreciative.
