  1. It is hard to forget the Whaley era when the NFL Network rebroadcasts recent drafts, including the 2014 draft where we traded up to the fourth pick in the first round to select Sammy Watkins, giving up our first round pick in 2015. We could have selected Mack or Mike Evans with that pick, or stayed at our original spot and selected Beckhan or Donald. In the second round, Whaley selected Cyrus Kouandijo. Still painful.
  2. I hope we draft Williams at 9. I get it that we have other needs, including DT, TE, DE and WR, but I think he is going to be a really good player. Unclear if he will be available at 9. Where he gets drafted seems a bit all over the place.
  3. Very few things to be sure of with this draft other than it is unlikely the Bills draft a QB. They signed a lot of free agents this offseason, which means fewer available roster spots. As a result, I also do not expect that the Bills will use all of their picks, instead packaging some to move up in the draft, particularly since Beane does seem to target players he wants. I think we go DT or DE in the first round. Kind of surprised that there is little talk about our needs at LB. I think it is an overall area of need and the Bills draft a couple of LBs and at least one CB. I think the draft will heavy on the defense.
  4. I also have a feeling that we are trading for Clark. Was Dan Morgan with Seattle when Clark was drafted?
  5. I really like the addition of Morse, but I seem to be in the minority with the view that the rest of the OL free agent additions appear to be quality back-ups and and not quality starters. Nsekhe is 33 and seems best suited to be a swing tackle. Same with Waddle in terms of being a quality swing tackle. Long has the ability to play center and guard, which is great for a back-up, but the Jets were eager to replace him after signing him in free agency and then releasing him. I can see Spain as a bridge to drafting a guard with strong potential. Feliciano is potentially a quality back-up guard. I know we have other needs, but I continue to believe that we need to draft a RT or LT and a guard in the early rounds of the draft. Not sure I understand our current strategy with the o-line other than creating competition and expecting that many of the players on the roster before free agency (and possibly some signed in free agency) will not be making the final roster.
  6. Other than Morse (who is a clear upgrade) and Dawkins (who needs to play better than last year), it seems like we have a bunch of guys with significant question marks, at least in terms of being potential starting upgrades from last year's o-line. It will be interesting to see if Nsekhe can be a quality starter at RT given his experience and recent play, but he is older and I don't think we can count on him being the long-term solution at RT. Long played poorly last season at center for the Jets, but he played with an injury. Hopefully, he can be an upgrade at guard. No idea about Feliciano and whether he can become a quality starter. At a minimum, we currently have more quality depth along the o-line compared to last season's group. Hopefully, some of the free agents we signed for the o-line can be upgrades. I still think we will pick a guard and/or tackle in this year's draft in the early rounds. At this point, I believe that target will be Lindstrom (BC) in the second round if he is available.
  7. We will see about their player evaluation abilities with the addition of these free agents and, among other things, trading up for Allen and Edmunds last year. Ultimately, performance on the field this year will be the best way to assess this front office. I have concerns about overpaying for what I would have thought were tier two and tier three level free agents and the injury history with some of these players, but we will see.
  8. I wonder what happened with Daryl Williams. Have to assume we are not signing him, but I have seen no rumors about him either.
  9. I thought durability was a big thing with Beane. Another player with very recent injury issues? Starting to get concerned.
  10. The Jets have acquired a bunch of players that were quality starters for their former teams. How they will perform together in NJ with a new coaching staff, new systems and new team is unknown, but pretty impressive haul in terms of overall talent so far. I would have loved this group of players for the Bills.
  11. I understand that the offseason is long and we need to patient, but I am disappointed at this point. Signing Daryl Williams, assuming he is healthy, would change my view. Do not understand Gore if we are going to keep McCoy this season. Seemed to overpay for Kroft. Was hoping for Crowder or Humphrey at WR and maybe Barr. WR continues to be a big need that has not been addressed yet. Also wondering about what we are going to do at guard. I don't think that Long is the answer and who knows whether Teller will develop. I also do not like that the Jets have acquired some of the players I was hoping the Bills would get.
  12. Gore, Kroft, Johnson and Long. Each is either old or suffered from injuries. Odd group and not particularly inspiring.
  13. Signing Gore only would make sense if the Bills were going to trade or release McCoy and had plans to draft a RB with a relatively early pick. Otherwise, this makes no sense to me at all.
  14. I don't think Beckham would come to Buffalo. The guy seemed to have issues with NYC and not being in LA.
  15. Plenty of rumors that the Bills have interest in certain free agents on the offensive side, but I have not seen many rumors of specific defensive players that the Bills may be interested in. I would expect that we sign at least a couple of players on defense as well, but maybe not in the first wave. At a minimum, could certainly use another outside linebacker and a defensive tackle.
  16. Also agree about Williams and Paradis/Morse. Then draft Chris Lindstrom, the guard from BC, in the second round.
  17. From what I have read on various websites, I believe the free agency negotiation period begins at 4 pm tomorrow (March 11th). This surprised me because I seem to recall it always started at 12:01am in previous years. Maybe it has changed?
  18. I would think the Bills have a sense at this point which free agents are possibilities through informal discussions with agents, including at the combine. I know this stuff is not supposed to happen before Monday, but I suspect it probably does. Hoping for Williams at RT, Morse or Paradis at C, one of the top outside LB free agents, and James (TE).
  19. Pure speculation, but I thought the Bills would go after Barr. Jets will be tough competition since they also have a lot of cap space.
  20. If Josh Allen can develop into a franchise type QB, it will help tremendously in the recruiting of free agents to Buffalo, including skill position players. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a chicken or the egg problem in that Allen's success likely will be in large part dependent on having a strong group of WRs, RBs and offensive lineman. As we approach the beginning of the free agency period, I will be happy if we sign some quality o-linemen (such as Daryl Williams and Mitch Morse), TE (such as Jesse James) and at least one veteran WR. We need these types of building blocks to move forward on offense and then we can add at least one WR, RB and OG in the draft. It would, at least, be a good start to fixing the offense and the Bills potentially becoming a more desirable destination for free agents in at least one of the categories that seems to matter (among others, including money), which is a having a young QB with potential to develop into a franchise QB.
  21. This does not make a lot of sense to me on a bunch of levels. Hope we are not giving up much in terms of players or picks since we are going to have to pay Brown a lot of money for a renegotiated contract and we still have a lot of needs. Feels like a Bills type move from the Whaley era and prior eras. I will be really surprised if Beane decided to do something like this.
  22. Losing to RPI last night was very disappointing. Unfortunately, rooting for Cornell usually results in the same feelings as being a Bills and Sabres fan.
