  1. Just watched the USCG press conference. It's over. They found a bunch of debris including the tail assembly, the front bell housing that unbolts to get inside, and lots of bits and pieces. They'll never find the central "tube" because that's CF and would have converted itself into a million little shards. It probably imploded the moment it lost contact with the surface. At least it was a fast death that no one would have even had time to comprehend. I've read a ton of stuff on this now, and it sounds like the CF work of the pressure tube was shoddy at best, it was never really carefully examined for microscopic flaws, and it's now undergone quite a few pressure cycles without constant observation of its condition. There was probably an air bubble or tiny flaw in it somewhere, that grew worse and worse over time until it reached a catastrophic failure. This is why they don't make submarines out of CF. The guy who built this thing was a bit of an ego maniac, a free spirit, and did it "his way" with a cocky bravado if you watch interviews of him. The whole thing is a preventable shame.
  2. Can you blame us? It's all we've ever known.
  3. It strikes me as incredibly unlikely, but as with almost all discussion points here, time will tell. Let's see how things play out as time moves forward.
  4. LOL, the oldest strategy in the book. 1) Deny Everything. 2) Admit nothing. 3) Make counter-accusations. This is the universal playbook of thugs since the beginning of time. Lance Armstrong used this strategy to excellent effect FOR YEARS.
  5. I hear Hopkins has been released! Did we sign him yet? And if not, why not?
  6. True, but the coaching community of the entire NFL is a tiny, inbred, little swamp.
  7. Why? Because he's a control freak and they fired the DC.
  8. He's a bit of a violent animal, isn't he? Maybe time to boot his ass out of the league.
  9. Be thankful they didn't put the Jets ahead of us...Miami, the Jets, and Baltimore could all be better than us or at least have a better record. For now, Rodgers and Lamar remain HUGE question marks. They might be mediocre too. And if Tua whacks his head again, he could be out for the season at any time. So it's all a crap shoot. A ranking of this type at this point in the year is beyond meaningless.
  10. I don't know whose rankings these were, but Schopp and Bulldog do them religiously every tuesday, I believe, and drum up the segment like everyone listening is just dying to hear their new rankings. I thought they did it purely as a time filler. They are right on the edge of being unlistenable. I'm sure many would say they hit that edge years ago! They do too much goofing around and non-sports talk. I don't ever, ever want to hear about Schopp's adopted son Julius's lacrosse tournament. Schopp talks about that crap every day. And then there's his addiction to gambling. He can't go more than 5 minutes without making a reference to it. Sorry to go way off topic. I agree, who cares.
  11. The is the long, data backed way of saying what I've said for years: at some point in the playoffs, you are going to have to have an elite offense and QB who can outgun another elite offense. If you don't that capability, forget it, with a few exceptions. This is why I would be happy with league avg. on D and build the most ungodly, feared offense the league has ever seen. Beane's adjustments this year, in contrast, have been minor.
  12. Better than what they have now, but nothing special.
  13. What makes you think Sal knows what the hell he's talking about? He never has a correct scoop or insight about ANYTHING.
  14. As of a live press conference conducted by the US Coast Guard (which has the lead in the investigation) around 1pm, they have searched above and below water in an area bigger than Connecticut and not found the vessel. If I had to guess right now, I'd say they never find it, let alone rescue anyone. About 37 hours of air left as of right now. What a nightmare.
  15. Welp, he didn't skip the first day of practice and have it out with the people over at OBD because he's happy, right? So who knows what it is. It's something; exactly what doesn't really matter.
  16. I understand where you're coming from, but the coast guard is in business, in part, to be just this sort of thing. I'm sure the cost involved is high, but it's in their operating budget to begin with. The odds of anyone on that thing surviving are close to zero, if they are not already dead, so it really is a sad situation all around.
  17. Me too! I wanted and expected Beane to go out and get a second STUD to catch the ball, and he did not. The OL changes are further band aids from Beane. Apparently, these guys just don't value the OL at all, but they are in love with the DL, despite it not being very good. I guess we could still sign some name out of nowhere, but I doubt that happens and I don't see how the overall picture on offense will be a lot different. Pray that Diggs remains healthy and happy.
  18. Former Royal Navy Commander says the submersible looks "a typical garden shed arrangement" and its "an absolute death trap...I wouldn't go in it." Picking up on what dpberr was saying earlier. That's an interesting graphic, because I have seen several experts, including a former captain of a US nuclear attack submarine, say that the Titanic is in a REALLY REMOTE area and there just isn't much stuff around there....though it might be possible for some sort of civil or merchant ship to be in the area. The graphic makes it look pretty busy, though those ships are on a small graphic that actually represents thousands of nautical miles. There might not be that many ships that are usefully very close to the Titanic.
  19. This isn't Watergate for Christ's sake. They're talking about a prima donna athlete's temper tantrum. To the OP: Do you really not understand what "a source close to Bills locker room" means in journalism speak? Were you expecting names? It doesn't work that way.
  20. I think that's said in a teammate joking kind of way, but yet you know he's serious. And he should be. Tyreek is an animal.
  21. I just think he's done nothing to demonstrate that he is an advanced, top tier OC. He never did it in his life before last year. Why should he be excellent at it? We were completely devoid of an offensive identity for most of the year...that is purely on the OC. We brought 2 corpses back out of retirement. That can't be happening on a team with SB aspirations. I can go on. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I think he's gone after this year when the big "2nd year learning curve" never happens.
  22. He's the HC of the NY Giants. He's not coming back, unless he gets fired. By the way, the best possible hire may very well be someone gainfully employed right now. At the end of the year, maybe 8 of these guys will be fired...and who knows who might become available. You can always go the bright up and coming OC route too....who that guy is, I have no idea...but there are people out there who do.
  23. The D was a no show last year when it mattered most. Let's hope for better this year. I'm not going to get excited over stats we generate against Denver.
  24. I've been watching a lot of video on this story and I think you're wrong about that. in fact, it has like 4 or 5 redundancy built into it for certain functions, particularly air supply. Maybe in other parameters it doesn't have back ups though. There is only 1 of these in the world, and it has proven to be very cantankerous. They have been trying to get customers down to the Titanic all year and I think I read that they only got there once or maybe not at all. Apparently the weather in that part of the N. Atlantic has been as bad as it's been in 40 years with climate change and what not. I'd be shocked if these people survive, but stranger things have happened.
  25. As far as I know these people have about 48 hours left.
