I am a big Beane SUPPORTER, much more so than a McDermott supporter. Having said that, our drafting has been terrible. There isn't a ball player on the entire list, and most of those guys are, or will be, busts to varying degrees. The best of them is probably Ed Oliver, and I'd have no problem moving on from him tomorrow. He's undersized for the NFL and fails too often to impact the game.

Upon further review...was Bass supposed to pop the kick up?
Nextmanup replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nah---all coaches talk about "execution" all the time---largely b/c it is the most important factor in any game--but also to protect their butts as "execution" deflects blame from the coach. McDermott was asked THREE TIMES in the post game PC about this and he refused to comment, effectively. He just choked, feared another huge return, and made the wrong choice. He does that a lot when it comes to in-game tactical decision making. You don't tell a pro NFL kicker "pop it up and drop it on the 15 yard line" or however they would describe such a kick and then he blasts it through the end zone. This isn't rocket science. -
Not only is there already a thread on this point, the main thrust of the thread is equally irrelevant. We can write paragraphs on how this team and the SB teams are NOT similar as well. Just depends on what you arbitrarily choose to focus on. I guess this is just a lightly veiled "feel good" thread saying next year we are going to the Super Bowl. You don't have to reference the old Kelly/Thomas era to suggest that. I hope it's accurate though!

Sullivan: Bills' McDermott choked away Super Bowl-caliber season
Nextmanup replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall
Extremely fair and accurate accounting of the game, reflecting several key themes that have been ALL OVER this message board since the moment the game ended. He has high praise of Allen, speaks of the folly of the current OT rule, and offers fair and accurate criticism of McDermott's playoff in-game management, which is not particularly strong. He also correctly points out that the Pegulas will almost certainly not have any issues with McDermott...but perhaps someone should be asking if what McD brings to the table is enough to match Josh's promise. I'm sure this won't stop an army of posters here from trashing Jerry and the column, despite never reading a word of it. Such is the way of ignorance.- 330 replies

Holy cow! You'd put a DL and a CB ahead of OL help?

How many chances does McDermott have left?

It wasn't just an error, it was a huge error that simply can't be made. And it's not a subjective type of decision that some might support--it was just straight up, objectively, WRONG. KC still should not have won no matter what, however. -
Don't spend a dime on a RB! Pick up whoever is available on the cheap. All in favor of radically improving the OL in draft and FA.

This has been discussed about 10,000 times all over this forum and elsewhere.

Consistency and footwork. Now and again his footwork gets wonky. And holding onto the football! He has a tendency to fumble. He fumbled in the KC game and miraculously the ball bounced back into his arms. Got lucky on that one.

I'd pick Frazier b/c I would like to see him upgraded. Unfortunately, I don't think he's going anywhere and he's not going to be replaced this off-season. So get used to him. Unfortunately, the guy leaving will be Daboll and that is going to be pretty disruptive to the team.

The myth that the Bills roster is better than the Chiefs
Nextmanup replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I love Josh as much as anyone, but if you think he's a billion times better than Mahomes, you're insane. -
Making Josh Allen the best he can be, consistently, should be the top concern this off-season. It should also be the second, third, fourth, and fifth! The way you make Josh consistently better is with a MUCH improved offensive line and more weapons on offense. A speed burner WR would be interesting; a better RB would be nice, and an elite TE if Knox isn't the guy already. I would put all resources in those directions. Look at last night's game! You think you are going to beat Mahomes with another CB or DT? You beat that guy by throwing obscene amounts of points on the board! That's it! We threw 36 on him and it WAS NOT ENOUGH!

Some people tolerate failure much better than others. Some people demand and expect success. -
How about Rosseau or Basham?

It’s time to trade for an Edge Rusher

I was as big a supporter of Rousseau as there was at this board. He's a bust. You mention him like he's somehow worth keeping. Hughes will be gone next year for sure. -
He's in the new season of Curb going on now. I didn't realize that was Halle Berry in the commercial--she always was gorgeous and is hot as hell in the commercial.
-
Wasting top assets on DL is idiotic-- I would LOVE to see elite speed at WR on this team next year. No one talks about it here, but Josh's YAC stat was worst in the NFL this year. How often do you see a Bill catch the ball and then run with it? They are almost always hit IMMEDIATELY. I swear to God, Diggs braces for a hit the moment he catches the ball like advancing it post-catch is not even an option.

My interest in the SB diminished a lot back when the Bills stopped playing in them. Haven't thrown a SB party since those days. You gotta do what what's right for you!
-
I agree with you generally, but I do believe Morse is gone almost certainly. I hope so--he's terrible. It will probably be mutual--not sure we want him back and not sure he wants to continue. I expect our OL to be substantially changed by next season.
