  1. Well now that's RODIN but hey, why not get him in on the conversation as well! RODAN RODON RODIN What a difference a single letter can make, huh?
  2. There's no doubt neighbors helping neighbors is a big part of life in WNY. Especially when things get extra tough, people come out of the woodwork to help one another. I can remember going out to the corner (we lived on a corner in the T of T) to chat with all the fathers/sons with shovels/snowblowers during all the big snow dumps, usually in peaceful quiet at night. Big conference going on out there talking about the weather! We were all good friends, the kids all played together, the parents socialized together, and we all helped each other out as necessary. A few houses where only old widows lived were always taken care of by SOMEONE and you would often find the new snowfall had already been taken care of by the guy with the biggest snow blower, saving my dad and myself some shoveling. That's just how it was, and that's how it was consistently.
  3. What Buffalo needs is the plan I developed in the 1980s as a teenager. Operation Drain Lake Erie. Turn that mofo into a parking lot.
  4. The Wehrmacht cleaned out Stalingrad (among many other cities) going door to door. That city had a population over 400,000 in July 1942 when the Germans showed up; Stalin didn't want the civilians to be allowed to leave so the Soviet army would fight harder to defend the city. Eventually, there was nothing left in a city of that size to BURN, and freezing to death became a big problem for the Germans come December/January 1943. Sorry for the history segue...but I love it. PS: The US Army corps of engineers played a big role in digging Buffalo out of trouble back in the Blizzard of '77.
  5. With the big ups and downs from year to year among NFL teams, this isn't necessarily as big an accomplishment as it may seem at first blush. We were so proud of that Week 1 pounding of the Rams despite giving the ball away 4 times and having LOTS of thing to clean up...and yet the Rams have proven THIS YEAR to be a lousy team. The Bengals are still quite good so that situation is different. The REAL accomplishment would be to beat the 2 AFC and NFC champion teams in the year they become champions. Especially if done on the road! Of course, that would be impossible to do if we ourselves are the AFC conference champion this year! So there's that too.
  6. For God's sake, let him go! Have fun in Denver. Good skiing in that part of the country.
  7. The way Josh throws is a BIG part of it. He tends to look around until he finds someone standing there saying "Throw me the ball, I'm open" and then he guns the thing into that window, but the receiver is starting from a dead stop with his back to the defense. Hard to to turn that into a big YAC situation. We also never throw crossing routes that are intended to hit the receiver while in motion with a flow to the play. On top of all that, Diggs isn't the fastest guy out there. It's not really a mystery to me; getting a speed burner absolute STUD No. 2 WR would be the first thing I would do this off-season. Then I'd set about completely re-inventing the O line.
  8. Are we talking about or
  9. The conventional NFL wisdom out there is truly horrible. I can't believe guys like Cowher or Dungy have jobs. They are horrible in front of a camera, have zero charisma, and only speak in these little trite soundbites that have been proven mostly false decades ago. I still can't believe how bad NFL tv broadcasting is. Is there no longer a lot of competition for these jobs?
  10. Actually, biggest factor in determining winner is score. Second is turnover ratio.
  11. What's with the fascination around here with Russell Wilson? Or Tua for that matter? Personally, I find myself spending ZERO time thinking about either unless they are playing football at that moment on my TV.
  12. I still find it amazing that people actually argue to play the game indoors. It's like starting a movement for all BBQing and grilling across America urging people to eliminate fire from the equation because it's too dangerous or something. You don't need an open flame to cook meat, but if you don't have the open flame, you aren't grilling!
  13. McDermott is an incredibly conservative/traditional person by nature, and that goes far beyond his status as a football coach. For that reason, I totally agree that he/we are extra cautious with injury. He's just extremely risk averse by nature. There are many people out there like him.
  14. The Great 8 has already shown he is a physical freak and he is already maintaining a high degree of fitness as he plays into old age. He is also (probably) the greatest pure goal scorer of all time! Well, top 3 at least. If I was a gambling man, I'd say he does it. He catches--and passes--the Great One. If it happens it will be a GREAT moment in hockey, as Gretz will be plenty young to go out there and have a big ceremony and what not and it should be pretty magical. Ovetchkin is one of the very few Russians I have ever been able to tolerate. But I don't just tolerate him, I love him. He's a HUGE guy and would love to drive you through the glass as much as score a pretty goal. Guys like that are as rare as unicorns. By the way, our young D-man Dahlin is kind of wired the same way! He's the biggest bad ass on the team right now, and with all that talent... PS: Definitely remember The Flower flying up and down the wing with his hair flowing in the wind. At the same time, I loved him (for his skating and playing) and hated him for the way he and his teammates shredded the Sabres. Another Hab in the same vein is Stephane Richer. What a Sabre killer that guy was! Now, back to "JJ Watt Retiring". LOL
  15. "If you ask me Buffalo gets a bad reputation for snow. It's not that bad." LOL
  16. You watch! This guy will circulate and re-circulate around this league on the coordinator level for the next 25 years.
  17. I'd be 100% in favor of acquiring a better backup QB to prevent our season from being lost if Josh goes down for 4 games or something like that. Biggest need: #1a WR star to help out Diggs. Remaining need: completely re-invent the OL by all means available. Remaining needs after that: patch in where necessary.
  18. He'll drop at least 50 pounds in a couple months.
  19. It's amazing what a poor design the human knee is. It's not evolved for upright walking on 2 legs.
  20. The Bengals are arguably hotter or playing better, more lately than the Bills. We have been pulling out ugly wins for weeks now, which is great, but that stuff won't work against a team as good as the Bengals. So either we put it together and then have a great shot at winning, or we lose. As always, it all depends on which Josh shows up. He's pretty darned inconsistent this year.
  21. The show is kind of stupid when you boil it down, but it's done well enough moment to moment to be a fun "page turner" of sorts. Kind of a "whodunnit" where every single person in the show is intentionally designed to be highly suspicious!
  22. No doubt about it! Tops in the league. Also, Bills offensive line. I think it's the best too. And we have the best uniforms too.
  23. Back when he got his first 2 big head hits, experts said he should definitely not return THIS SEASON. And that lasted only a few games and he was back. Now he gets a more gentle smack on the back of the head and like that he has another concussion---and yes, the protocol process failed again. Should never have returned to the Packers game. He has to be doing long term damage and he will continue to get these, only they will occur more easily.
  24. So last night we caught "The Watcher" on Netflix. This is a 7 part series that I believe terminates at the end of the 7 parts. No season 2. It was good enough to hook us and we burned through parts 1-6. Tonight is the finale. I'm curious if anyone else has seen this and if you liked it.
  25. This reminds me when Ayrton Senna died back in 1994 and Brazil declared 3 national days of mourning. They must have declared 3 holidays with no work or something like that. What a party!
