[Vague Title] An top OL just became available. Wow

Not sure what the specifics are behind Penn’s release, but this is a terrible time for a team to release a player. If they were going to release him they should have done it a week ago. -
OT Ty Nsekhe (Redskins) to the Bills
Inigo Montoya replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have a new O-line coach who is ready to go to work and make a name for himself. A proven vet leader in Morse who can keep the guys in check and two new hungry linemen in Nsekhe and Feliciano who are finally getting their chance after being in the shadows for years. Then there is Long who had a lot of success in Washington and then got hurt and knows he is probably on his last chance. Dawkins is now on notice and realizes he needs to produce or he will be gone just like the rest of the O-linemen from last season. I expect a lot of energy and determination out of this new group. I think it is a huge upgrade over last year's line and Beane has done a great job of getting them here. Bobby Jackson has no loyalty or prejudices towards anyone on the roster. There should be an open competition for every guard and tackle spot and I expect Nsekhe to be our starting left tackle in the season opener. -
Why are the Browns the sexy pick?
Inigo Montoya replied to The Red King's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't sleep on the Indianapolis Colts. After week 6 when Luck started to play like himself again they went 9-1 over the last 10 games. They then went on the road and won a playoff game in Houston and then lost in Arrowhead to the Chiefs. They have one of the best QBs in the game and a fantastic O-line to protect him, a good coach, a solid defense. They have lots of cap space to make moves and extend their own quality players. They are for real. I think the Colts will be in the AFC championship game this year. -
JP Losman impresses scouts at Clemson Pro day
Inigo Montoya replied to End The Drought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was there for opening day 2005, JP's first start and we absolutely destroyed the Texans. The defense was teeing off on Carr the entire game. The Ralph was rocking. Beautiful, sunny Fall day in Orchard Park. He ran off the field to chants of "JP! JP! JP!" It was all down hill from there... -
Morse said he wanted to come to Buffalo because of Josh Allen. He said it looked like Josh had nice, soft hands...

We currently have 65 players on the roster with our new free agent signings. I believe that number includes ten players from last year's practice squad, so more accurately 55 + 10 practice squad. Next month we will be adding ten draft picks to the roster bringing us to 65 + 10. Assuming that only half of our draft picks make the final roster (which I hope is a low estimate) that means we need to cut 17 players from the current roster. Right now available roster spots is becoming a bigger limitation than remaining cap space $$$. Every free agent signed means another cut to the roster. I'm sure Beane is weighing this consideration as he continues to shop for new free agents. Below is a link to a web site called sportrac that lists the entire current 65 man roster. There is a "Release" button next to every player on the roster that allows you to cut players from the roster like you're a GM. There is box on the right hand side of the page that keeps track of your totals. Find 17 cuts on that roster right now to get to 48 roster spots (assuming 5 currently unlisted draftees make the final roster). At some point you're no longer cutting fat, your cutting meat from the roster. It's not easy to find 17 to cut, and once again, that assumes only keeping 5 out of the 10 draft picks. We can roll some cap money over to next year and use to some to extend current players. Looking at it from a roster point of view, I think our free agency is just about done. Maybe Ziggy or one other player and thats it. Who are your 17 cuts from the roster to get to 48? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tools/roster/buffalo-bills/ Here are mine; (Edited because I cut both of our punters. Inconceivable!) With all the moves, I'm now conflicted at 9
Inigo Montoya replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hockenson fills two roles, great blocker on the O-line and a big bodied receiving target for Allen. We have addressed the other roster needs in free agency well enough that I think we can afford to take a TE at #9. -
KR/WR Andre Roberts (Jets) to Bills
Inigo Montoya replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Duke Williams stays because he is the only "big" receiver and may carve out a niche as the red-zone-go-up-and-get-it guy. I think McKenzie will be the odd man out and Ray Ray would be next on the chopping block. -

I think it will be an open competition for every guard and tackle position this year. Bobby Jackson is a new coach and has no prejudices or loyalty to anyone on the roster. I expect Nsekhe will end up winning the left tackle spot and Dawkins will end up at right tackle this season. -
Pure speculation on my part here... Remember that video that came out of Odell in bed with that girl and the white powdery substance last off season? It might be that Odell has not been doing well in his personal life and the Giants see trouble ahead and would rather get something for him instead of nothing if he goes off the rails. You would think they'd have the inside track on what Odell has been up to this off season. No one can deny his ability, but he really doesn't seem to be a very stable individual. They traded a generational talent less than a year after signing him to a huge contract with a $20 million signing bonus, plus his $1.5 million salary, and now they will have to eat another $16 million in dead cap space this season which basically means the Giants paid Odell $37.5 million for one year of service. It's crazy! What did they get in return for the trade? A 1st, a 3rd, and a safety. It makes no sense at all from a football or financial point of view. I think the easy answer is to say that Gettleman is just an idiot, but the owner also needed to sign off on this move. Is John Mara an idiot too? I just don't know. They had to know they were going to get nuked by the Giant's fanbase and New York media for this move. Where is the upside? There just isn't any. I just wonder if there are some other issues at play that we don't know about. Are the Giants afraid that Odell is going to self destruct?

I was bummed to see Bell sign with the Jets last night, but after thinking about it a little bit, I think on the whole a competitive Jets team is good for us. This has been the Patriot's division for 17 years and a large part of their success has been playing the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins twice a season, every season. Playing in this milquetoast division filled with three dysfunctional franchises has been one of the main factors in their dynasty. The last season the Patriots had less than double digit regular season wins was in 2002. Since then they have only had two seasons with less than 11 wins. Not only do they waltz into the playoffs every year, but with their fat regular season record from dominating the AFC East, they usually have home field advantage too. For the Bills to finally be contenders, the Patriots can no longer dominate the division. The Patriots need to start losing division games and winning the AFC East needs to become competitive again, not just a foregone conclusion. That's why it's good for the Jets to get better too, not just the Bills. Instead of the Patriots going 6-0 in division games, or having that one fluke loss and going 5-1 in the division, the Patriots need to start going 3-3 in the division playing tough Bills and Jets squads and suddenly the division is up for grabs again. Being able to have playoff games in Orchard Park would be huge. For way too long the road to the playoffs has gone through Foxborough The Patriots dynasty can't end soon enough and a competitive Jets team is an important part of that. We need to have the AFC East become a normal football division again, with multiple competitive teams and the title up for grabs at every season opener, not this dysfunctional division of the Patriots and the Three Dwarves. It goes without saying that the Bills need to finally take that next step and become competitive, but the Jets need to become competitive too. In the big picture, I think the Jets getting better is more of a plus than a minus for our division and the Bills.

Thoughts on the front office
Inigo Montoya replied to Bill_with_it's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The GM and coach are on the same page, which is not always the case, and is so important for an organization's success. Without eating all of that dead money last year, this free agency doesn't happen. They have a plan and they are executing it. They got their QB. They have a solid defense in place. Now they are putting an offense together on reasonable, team friendly deals. He has acquired all these free agents and is still sitting on 10 draft picks, including a top 10 pick. Lastly, they are projected to have the most cap space in the league next year so we won't have to watch all of our own great players walk (which has been a back breaker for this franchise for years) and we should be able to continue to add talent to the roster. I'm a fan. -
Report - Bills talking to Hou for Clowney

Dee Ford just got traded for a 2nd round pick..... in 2020. I don't think Beane gives up a 1st rounder. Just my guess. -

Fair point McDamit I think McBeane knows we need to score more points on offense and our defense in already in good shape. All of these moves means nothing if Allen doesn't continue to grow. Adding an elite pass catching, hard blocking TE is a need on this team and will be big for Allen. A great TE can be the focus of a successful offense in today's NFL. Drafting Hoskenson would address a true position of need and wouldn't be a reach at #9. -
Please don't forget our other new WR.......
Inigo Montoya replied to Mooshocker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have a couple slot receivers and a few burners on the outside now, but only one tall, throw it up and go after it red zone target... Duke Williams. I would bet one of the slot guys or one of outside burners will go before Duke does. If you are not going to have a true #1 receiver you need to have a bunch of solid role players. No one else on the roster can do what Duke can do. -

If the Bills grab either Ansah or Clowney in free agency you can go ahead and pre-order your Hockenson Bills jersey now. -
If we can land one more solid offensive guard or tackle that allows us to go best player available at 9. It would put Hockenson, Metcalf, or a D-tackle in play at 9. If we can't grab another O-lineman in free agency, I think we should go O-line at 9. We need to put an solid O-line in front of Allen. I hope we can grab another free agent O-lineman and have more flexibility at 9

LOL! Putin you got me... I went back and edited my post and took that line out. You were too fast! I think Tyrod is great clip board holding material, but I think he is actually a good fit in Miami this year, no QB, low expectations, clear place holder for a single season. He can win you some games. I'm still a fan for the way he handles his business. Contrast him with AB this week. It's not hard to root for Tyrod.
