Not that I put much stock in this, but it still pisses me off. The bottom line is that until the Bills start to win, they will continue to get no respect. 2019 is going to be a huge year for this franchise, free agency and the draft are going to be critical. If McBeane can do a solid job these next three months and Allen continues to play like he did during the second half of the season, I think we grab one of the Wild Card spots in 2019. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25879183/2019-nfl-power-rankings-way-too-early-offseason-poll

I think Philly still feels their window is open for another Super Bowl run. Wentz can't stay healthy and Foles has been the best backup in the league at the most important position on the field. It goes without saying that Philly doesn't win the Super Bowl two years ago or even make the playoffs this season without Foles under center. I think it's a smart move to hold onto him one more year as insurance if Wentz can't stay healthy. This can only be good news for the Bills as it makes it more likely that Foles if off the free agent QB market. One less free agent QB makes the QBs in the draft more valuable and it would be great to see more teams fighting to jump ahead of us or trade with us to grab their QB. Either way the Bills win, the more QBs selected ahead of us the more likely a non-QB prospect McBeane covets will drop to us at 9, or we can trade back and pick up some extra picks and still find a quality player in the middle of the 1st round.

The Texans will have $70MM in cap space this season. I don't see them letting Clowney walk with J.J. Watt's back in the shape it is. Watt is going into his ninth season, that's already a long career for a defensive end. You have to wonder how much gas he has left in his tank especially with him already having had multiple back surgeries. I could see Watt hanging it up in the next a year or two. Clowney won't make it to free agency.

Bills re-sign LS Reid Ferguson - 3 year deal
Inigo Montoya replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had never even heard of Reid Ferguson, which is probably the highest compliment you can pay your team's long snapper. -
I think Daboll will get a few years to get the offense humming. I don't see Beane and McDermott wanting to start over with a new offensive scheme if at all possible. I'm sure they realize that giving Allen a few seasons to learn and run the same offense will be the best thing for his development. Ultimately, they know that all of their futures ride on Allen becoming a solid NFL quarterback.

Jags to release TE Austin Sefarian-Jenkins
Inigo Montoya replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember back in 2010 when the Patriots drafted Gronk in the 2nd and Hernandez in the 4th. I thought they were crazy. Who the hell needs two tight ends? They ended up being dominant. Imagine if Hernandez wasn’t a dufus and was still playing in New England??? This year’s draft is deep in TE talent and we have 10 draft picks. A great tight end can be the cornerstone of an entire receiving corps in today’s NFL. Just look at Gronk, Ertz, Kelcy, and Kittle. I wouldn’t be upset to see the Bills grab two tight ends in the draft this year with a lot of upside. -
NFL.com’s Unsung Heroes of 2018: Matt Milano, Bills
Inigo Montoya replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No question that Milano was always wherever the ball was the entire season. I think Edmonds will take a big step forward next season with a year of experience under his belt and some good coaching, and the Bills will have one of the best linebacking duos in the league. -
I found this on the internet, and I know we all believe everything we find on the internet... ; ) I have no idea where the Bills stand right now as far as their spending requirement during this four year period. Spending requirements There is a minimum amount of money that a team can put towards their caps. All 32 teams are required to spend at least 89 percent of their caps (which this year is $157.7 M). This is called the minimum cash spend requirement, also known as the 89 percent rule. Teams don’t have to spend their 89 percent every year, however. This requirement must be the average amount spent over the four year spending period. The current spending period started in 2017 and will continue through 2020.

You're right, it is frustrating. One thing to remember is that Beane doesn't have to spend all of his available cap money this year, he can hold 20-30 MM back in hopes that next year is a better crop of talent The requirement to spend a certain percentage of the salary cap is actually calculated and averaged over several seasons. You don't have to spend it all this year. I'd rather have him keep some powder dry instead of spending all of it if the pieces he wants just aren't available at the right price.

About Tom Brady and the Patriots
Inigo Montoya replied to Ice bowl 67's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not so well! ; ) That's just life as a Bills' fan in the Age of Brady. The sun is setting in New England though. Maybe next year, maybe the one after that. Who knows? I've been waiting 20 years for the Bills to be on top again, I can wait one or two more. I think we finally have our QB. I'll still never root for any player to get injured, even Brady. I've worked the last 23 years in one of the busiest emergency departments in my state, and I see people busted up every single day at work. I won't wish that on anyone. As I recall, wishing an injury on Brady was the theme of the OP. Patriot fans are spoiled and a lot of them are simply jerks. Instead of being chill about it and acting like they have been there before, and remembering what it was like during the lean years for their franchise, they feel the need to rub everyone else's nose in their team's success. They act like they are out there winning the championship themselves. So while I will never wish injury on another human being, I will enjoy watching the wheel turn and seeing the 2-14, and 4-12, and 5-11 Patriots struggling, and listening to the cries and lamentations of their obnoxious fans. Just ask the Six Fingered Man....karma is a B*tch -
How Offense Took Over the N.F.L.
Inigo Montoya replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Scoring is the most exciting part of the game. Like it or not, football has to evolve to stay in step with a society that has no patience for anything anymore. The NFL needs to be proactive and roll with the times. "Defensive battles" aren't exciting to most people. 9-6 at half-time? Boring game... Look at the Rams / Chiefs MNF game this year. It's widely considered the game of the season. Score... 54-51. It's why soccer has been such a hard sell in this country, and why MLB is in trouble and juicing the balls for more home runs and trying whatever they can to speed up the game. -
DeSean Jackson unlikely to remain with Buccaneers
Inigo Montoya replied to Foxx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we already have a burner in Foster who is coming along nicely on a super cheap rookie contract. I would rather spend the money on another free agent WR who is more versatile than DeSean Jackson if one is available. -
About Tom Brady and the Patriots
Inigo Montoya replied to Ice bowl 67's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d rather have Brady play the entire game and still get blown out by Mahomes and the Chiefs just to show the Patriots and their obnoxious fans that the glory days are over.- 161 replies

Gregg Williams to Jets as DC
Inigo Montoya replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone in the league watches Hard Knocks. No free agent who has seen Gregg Williams on that show is going to want to play for that jerk. Might give the Bills an edge in grabbing a defensive free agent. Buffalo cold and snow or Gregg Williams for your boss? I'd take the snow... -
If Allen has an O-line that lets him stand tall in the pocket and throw the ball from a stable base, not running for his life or on designed roll outs to mitigate the rush, I think Allen will take a big step forward next season. More so than receivers to throw the ball to, if the O-line can give Allen just one more second for him to read the defense and let a route develop and let him step into a throw and not be forced to throw off his back foot or on the run I think the "accuracy" issues go away. Having a clean pocket to throw from every now and then doesn't seem like too much to ask for. Beane needs to get it done.

Buffalo's reputation amongst free agents
Inigo Montoya replied to clayboy54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It reminds me of when they had just hired Rex and they were giving him a tour of the facilities and he was walking around looking around like a kid at Disney World and he said that everything looked fantastic. They showed him the cafeteria, and the weight room and he just raves about the facilities. He actually says after being shown the locker room "I'm blown away here. People have no idea..." The link to the video on YouTube is below. The facilities tour starts at the 1:30 second mark and the tour of the locker room starts right around 3:15 second mark. Around the 4:18 second mark he says "I'm just blown away though, I don't know what I was expecting, but this is about as nice as it gets, you've got everything here." The football stadium may be old, but everything else is state of the art. People just don't know. I don't know how you go about changing that misconception, but I agree, it is just one of the many issues that make Buffalo a hard sell for free agents and its completely unfounded. -
I think Allen hurting his elbow may have saved his season. I think it was a huge benefit for him to have several weeks in the middle of the season to go back and spend time watching his game film and work on the mental aspect of his game. I think it made a huge difference. He couldn't work on his throwing when his elbow was healing, all he could work on was the cerebral part of being an NFL quarterback. He didn't have to worry about installing new plays for that week's game and breaking down the opposing defense. He could just focus on what he needed to do to become a better QB, not what he had to do to win that particular game. That chance to take a deep breath and refocus your efforts can be huge. Without that time off there's a good chance he'd have finished the season the same way he started it. We all saw when he came back from the injury that his pocket presence was significantly improved and his play reflected that. I'm not sure that late season improvement happens without the elbow injury. Who would have guessed that Jadeveon Clowney could end up being the Bill's 2018 MVP?

Josh Allen is a cheat code on 3rd and 4th and 1!!
Inigo Montoya replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unlike many, I have no problem with Allen running the ball. He’s a big guy and I’d rather have him tackled 9 yards down the field by a 180lb safety than be crushed by a 300 lb lineman when the pocket collapses. Instead of taking a sack and losing eight yards on the play, or throwing the ball away, and a precious down with it, I’ve got no problem with him getting at least two or three yards on a scramble, and lots of times those scrambles turn into big gains and drive defining plays. As long as he slides or goes out of bounds and avoids the hits whenever possible, I’m all about Allen using his legs. If he doesn’t, it negates one of his strengths and makes it easier for the opposing defense. Look what Bortles did to us in the playoff game last year, his scrambling broke our back. You never hear people complaining about Aaron Rodgers when he scrambles for yardage and keeps a drive alive. It seems to me that most quarterbacks are injured getting nailed in the pocket trying to get a ball off when a 250 lb DE is teeing off on them. If you’re running, you usually dictate the contact at the end of the play. That seems safer to me. Keep running Josh! -
Las Vegas Raiders: Mike Mayock hired as GM

I can see NFLN throwing a bunch of money at Todd McShay to steal him away from the Evil Empire. ESPN isn't big enough for the egos of both Kiper and McShay... -
2019 NFL Draft: Bills officially picking 9th
Inigo Montoya replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great observation Hapless. That is the gist of my thread the other day that the Bills may want to restock the O line and WR positions in free agency this year, but it is going to be hard for them to accomplish it due to the limited options available on the market and the fact that there are a lot of teams out there with money to spend and more appealing situations for a free agent to go to. If the Bills and the Dolphins put the same offer on the table for a player, do you think a 25 year old free agent is going to pick Buffalo? You'd be crazy to think that South Beach, great weather, and no state income tax that adds 9% to the value of the contract won't be a big factor in the decision? That's why I think Beane is going to look to trades to do what he can't do in free agency. We don't have any players to trade, but we do have draft picks to offer up. I'd be shocked if he didn't trade for at least two players before the end of April's draft. I could see him trading during the draft for players.
