This year, forget it. They tried a very vertical, deep pass style offense against the Packers and got ZERO points for it. You adjust your scheme to your personal, period. Even the Josh haters will admit that with his big arm, 2 wideouts with great speed, one being a great overall receiver, could change the Bills offense instantly. But these players, if they come, it'll be next year and beyond...

While I agree with some of his issues and weaknesses mentioned in the article, it's so hard to really evaluate a player based on stats alone. Seriously, his WRs have dropped long passes, TD passes, and this last INT wasn't on him. Now, all QBs have dropped passes but he's had more, and at critical times. His stats would obviously look better. And then you just add a few long passes and 80-120 yards become 200+ yards and it's the same damn QB! Exactly the same guy. Just that a better supporting cast would allow some of those long passes that we all know he can throw. He has made very little dumb mistakes for all his shortcomings. So add experience, quicker reads, good wideouts to throw to and suddenly he's a top tier QB! Maybe not top 5 but way good enough to lead a NFL team.

Priority: Develop Allen or Win Ugly?
Jerome007 replied to Berky1010's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. And he learns a lot more by "doing little" but being active like in the last game that if he sat out all year watching tape! -
Well get ready to cut them off unless the Bills are that dumb. You realize the Eagles need this and want this way more than the Bills, right? They are in a NOW phase that should make them "overpay". As for the Bills, keeping the offense star and team captain could be a tad more important than settling for a mere 3rd round pick! If they want to protect Allen and not lose the locker room - all that worth more again than a measly 3rd round pick! The Bills already have plenty of picks and superstars like Shady don't come often.
-
You guys and your love of draft picks! A mere 3rd round for a superstar like Shady to go to a team in NOW desperation mode would such a bad trade! Get way more or keep the man! And the other players in that locker room would be quite dejected. It'd be the management saying "season's over, all for next year" but keep pushing through pain and injuries... Maybe the GM is tempted but I'm not sure the coaches are
-
Damn right. And even 2nd rounders... how many have been superstars? Shady is one, and who can be sure he really is finished because he's 30? Depends on what's his cap space if he stays next year, compared to if he isn't. I'd hate to see him go. He and Allen have obviously bonded for a while. At least for him to get back to Philly for a SB run is awesome but as a fan I'd rather he be part of the team. Is Ivory signed for more than this year? If so both of them can extend their careers by sharing the carries.

Shady and Josh TD Celebration

Yes. And he jumps high so easily. I mean we all know from the hurdle but just look at him. -
Josh Allen is the piece just need players around him

Only true WTF moment of the game but it sure was one. -
#Receipts on the Chris Ivory signing
Jerome007 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems to me if they are used as today, not only can Ivory and McCoy be effective, but it might make them gain one more year on their careers by sharing the load like that. -

Jerome007 replied to twist_to_open's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The inaccurate, or let's say, "erratic" part is concerning. The rest, damn, will you give him some time? He's a rookie. A rookie with less college experience than most rookies. These last ones he CAN learn with... EXPERIENCE. Only his 4th start! And he did have pocket awareness today. At least, he wasn't happy feet, running around for nothing like against the Packers. He didn't do much but wasn't asked to do much either. You guys thought Mariota looked so much better out there? -
Players need to adjust... at least this year. Next time he - and the others - should basically hold him still till other players arrive as then the refs will blow the whistle. Dumb rule? Yeah but since it's there, adjust. Lesson learned but they should have actually practiced that. It's not in the Process?

Please can we get this kid ONE quality receiver
Jerome007 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the Vikings game Josh played so well yet his stats were average as the WRs didn't do much. Today very little was asked of Allen and it worked - very little WR contribution again. There will be a time you need some pass plays! They need WRs more than the need OLinemen -
True. But that wasn't one. Anyway, THIS should be the blueprint, and of course, as you imply, add to it with some deep throws, TE in the middle, trickery, etc. But they hadn't established their "identity" on offense yet. They did today. Defense they've had it since the 7th quarter of the season.

Props to the coaches. The Bills have obviously limited talent on offense, but both the offense and defensive game plans have been on. And they came to play, mentally ready. Nobody has given up on the season yet (except KB...). The coaches have been so criticized we also to give them credits when it's warranted. Daboll at last had many two back sets including the FB at times, short runs in the flat, even the WR screen at the end, checkdown outlets for Allen he rarely used, good mix of Shady and Ivory for the right situations, and so on. Weird that this wasn’t the basic offense TBH. I maintain there should ALSO be a few max protection plays with 2-3 deep routes to make use of Allen’s arm - and just the threat of this will keep defenses from crowding the line. Win or lose, this game looks like many of us expected the Bills to look. An above average defense that goes for turnovers like last year, with an offense that has to be run oriented because of its limitations. I just wonder if we’ll see the TE more involved at one point, and if Zay Jones will catch a pass before the 4th quarter ha ha Props to the special teams too. Punter botched that field goal but as a punter he has been good all year. Only one good return allowed (that was a nice TD saving open field tackle too)

Derek Anderson to sign with Bills per Mort
Jerome007 replied to billieve420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agrees! Fully. Otherwise, decent move. Daboll's genius playcalling or Anderson's limitations? Anyway, it's OUCH Palmer has his own successful business. Guys like that don't want to flush it all to work with one team and have to rebuild their client base all over after the team changes staff. Their pay by a team is not that great TOO btw. I know a super successful therapist and he mentioned that me. I talked to some of his peers, same thing. Just look at therapists, doctors, trainers, strength coaches that many players get on their own, in all team sports. But I'm sure Palmer could be hired for a few week stint... -
Dolphins Promote Nick O'Leary to the 53 Man Roster
Jerome007 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IDK why but he was wide open for at least 3-5 plays per year. That counts for something. Overall, it depends how good he was at blocking, really. -
Bills vs. Packers All-22 Coaches Film Reviews
Jerome007 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Indeed. When all units from the QB to the Line to WRs have issues, it becomes COACHING as the main culprit. Ha will you stop? Haven't you see Allen play like a superstar against the VIKINGS while his receivers still dropped passes? -
Again I agree. But they have no track record for us to be confident they'll make the right choices. Anyway, I sure hope they do. But it's that, hope. And it might have taken me more time than others, and some of you aren't there yet, but all these years of losses, and now these blowouts and being currently the worst team in the league, it's too much. Hopes isn't very high, yet still there to torture us (doh!).
-
True. Same for 2020. But so far it seems we have very low confidence that they will indeed make the right draft picks and sign the good FAs. It can get better very quickly, but as the Browns have shown with YEARS of being the doormat, it is no guarantee. Most of us are tired of just living on hope. I didn't expect a Superbowl season, but I did't expect the Bills to be the doormat of the NFL either and get blown out 3 games out of 4! Even if the Bills hadn't made the playoffs last year and had been let's say 7-9, you don't expect them to be the worst team of the league the year after!
-
I have patience with Allen, contrary to a lot of people on this board. I see huge potential in this kid. Besides that, the blowouts are disgusting, period. 3 whoopings in 4 games! Bills are ranked LAST in "power rankings". Yes that's too much to take. So call it selective patience, and I'm out of it. I still think people whine way too much. Such as the "fire everyone crowd"," they didn't get Mahomes" (like they were the only ones!), and blablabla. But so much cap space for a guy like Star, not addressing the OLine or WRs, giving Incognito the shaft BEFORE his meltdown (unless they knew otherwise), unoriginal game planning by Daboll, and on and on. Damn. How much can we take as fans? It's the first time in years I'm losing my passion for the Bills and football. I didn't think the "kneeling" wouldn't affect me, and at first I thought it didn't, but it made the SJW angle and all that crap enter the sport, so yeah it might be the starting point of it all for me - and for many others I suspect. NFL football is like a tribal outlet for many of us, and this stupidity caused a big rift in the imaginary bonds we have with the players. Before Losman the Bills lost but were always in it, fierce competitors and all. Since it's been in spurts, and the super lows between the highs are getting to a lot of us. I never consider the Patriots games and such as automatic L like so many people on here. But all these blowouts, the Bills now being the NFL doormat, that's too much. Can the situation change quickly in the next 2 years with the draft picks and cap space? Absolutely! But it could also remain as bad if the management decisions don't pan out. (Almost) Out of patience. Almost out of hope I guess would be more exact. If not for Allen I'd come back when they are winning again, like the fairweather fans I usually despise.
-
I like it. And with Ivory and Shady, the Bills sure have a very strong 2 back duo. They ran that twice I think last game. Not nearly enough but before that it was zero. You mention the pass aspect in your post, but runs are good too. Ivory ran the ball in the middle and some of the defenders had taken the McCoy bait - and even Allen could run it so keep'em guessing. RBs and TE are stronger than WRs on the team anyway so mix it up! Edit: and people bag on DiMarco but he can be effective in the run game as a blocker and of course as a check down option. Of course on paper it all makes sense, but they have to drill it to execute it come Sunday. I love the horn idea!
