  1. People are giving up on Peterman way too soon. I'm not saying he'll ever be a starter, but some seem to think he doesn't even belong in the NFL based on 30 minutes of play, not counting the blizzard bowl. McCarron has only ever been a backup to a very average starter, so I will assume that's his worth until he proves otherwise. At present, there is no reason to assume that we will have any other QB on this roster capable of being a franchise QB any time soon.
  2. Because he might be the only starter-capable QB left at 12, although with a low ceiling. I'd almost just take Mike White in the 3rd if he's the only one left. Build up the roster with all those day 1 and day 2 picks, then get our QB next year after we tank.
  3. The rule changes are what has changed, not QB talent. If today's QB's had to play with old school rules (ie - bump and run, no pass interference unless the ball is in the air and catchable) they'd have a hard time matching those numbers. Ummmm... no. He was good. He was very good.
  4. I'm a lot more worried about the Jets than the fish. I think Miami will be very weak this year and we'll both be drafting in the top 5 in the 2019 draft.
  5. We got camp bodies that happen to play at positions of need, not solutions. And we still have no idea if McCarron IS an upgrade over Taylor if we're going to be honest about it.
  6. The lack of talent on this roster right now is really scary. It looks like Cleveland's roster from 2017, but with a secondary, minus a couple talented CB's. Even our backfield is suspicious with only a pair of 30+ yr old RB's and a couple dumpster dive backups. Clay had his worst season in a while and Benjamin was banged up. McCarron hasn't proven thyat he can be a solid NFL starter yet. Our OL and DL are weak and the LB corps is the weakest unit of all. Even our punter sucks LOL. I think this could very well be the year we tank. I hope we draft a QB in 2019 if we can't get one of the top 4 this year. We'll have a lot more cap space too, so at least there's that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
  7. I'd love to see us escape QB purgatory for the 1st time in 2 decades and I'm a defense-first guy.
  8. We have only 1 starting caliber CB on the roster now. I(f we trade up for a QB, we probably won't have the draft capital to get a good one to start opposite White. Then again, White was the 27th pick and this draft is supposed to be deep in CB talent.
  9. I'd be very surprised if either Allen or Mayfield were still around at 12 and I'd be really upset if they threw away a 12th pick on Jackson or Rudolph. They could trade down and get one of those guys, but why do we even want them. I liked Jackson at first, but after watching him throw at the combine -- UGH! Rudolph, I hear, will never be any more than average QB. If we can't choose from Darnold, Rosen, Allen and Mayfield, I say let's tank in 2018 and get our QB next year, if one of available. You have impeccable insight, my friend! How do you do it?
  10. Me too -- mostly because there are so many question marks surrounding these top QB's. I'd hate to see us trade up for a guy that busts, but sooner or later we have to take that risk if we ever want to be great like we were in the mid 60's.
  11. Realist. Things look pretty bleak right now across the board, but draft day is coming and in 2019, we'll have a lot of money to spend. If we tank this season, that'll be OK with me too. Maybe we get the best rookies that take a year to come into their own.
  12. I agree with you OP that Tyrod didn't anticipate well and held the ball too long, but Wood was not a help at all. He was, for the last several years of his NFL career, one of the worst starting centers in the league. Having a QB that reads defenses quickly and anticipates receivers coming open will reduce our sacks considerably. Again, I remember how many sacks Rob Johnson used to take, but when Flutie was in, he hardly ever took sacks.
  13. Get well Zay and listen to this doctor's advice on brain scans.
  14. Assuming that the story is accurate, there are medical conditions that can cause aberrant behaviors such as benign tumors that put pressure on certain areas of the brain. The 1st thing they need to do is take a look and see if they can find anything out of the ordinary. Iassume drug testing will be done.
  15. Whaley's staff scouted this guy, right? I don't recall hearing that McD has done any scouting. Just sayin'. Maybe we should wait for more facts.
  16. Didn't Jackson's combine send him to round 2? I thought he was wildly erratic with his throws.
  17. I get the sense that Beane isn't going to let anyone get the better of him and he'd like to keep that 22nd pick and still have a couple picks on day 2 rather than going all in on 1 guy like the Skins did for RG3. A move like that would set us back years -- giving up so many high picks and getting RG4 (or EJ2.0) in return.
  18. I get it -- People think the Bills are snoozing, but all of these top QB prospects have questions that concern me. Darnold -- Turnovers, Mayfield -- Arm strength, Rosen -- Deep throws, Allen -- Completion %. Beane can get an awful lot of talent and still get Mike White on day 2. Then, if McCarron busts, we'll be in good shape for the 2019 draft. I'm not saying none of these top 4 prospects will make it, but the last time we got desparate, we ended up drafting EJ Manual in the 1st round. Maybe this will all work out. Maybe not. As Marv Levy said, the draft is a crapshoot.
  19. No thanks. Maybe a 1 year deal until we can find an upgrade, but he's a below avg LB just like P Brown.
  20. I can't help but laugh at the posts saying Hughes is no good. He is the best DL on our roster and it's not even close. I just hope Beane and McD are smarter than that. Still, if it's the only way to get one of the top 4 QB's, then I guess I could live with being dead last in sacks or close to it for another year. I also think having Murphy on the other end of the DL will help him a lot. Other teams won't be able to focus as much attention on him. Good points. He's been really good vs the run as well. Lots of hustle.
  21. If we're using the same adjectives to describe Murphy that people have used to describe Lynch, that would be great!Beast, powerful, explosive, take your pick.
  22. Murphy. He's an immediate upgrade over Shaq. He's a hair above avg. McCarron should be a solid backup. Lotulelei should help a bit in the run game, but does nothing for our pass defense in a passing league. Some seem to think he's great. He's not even close. He can't shed blockers to save his life. I get that he's just a space eater, but he's a liability in every other phase of the game. Spare me the "Oh but he doesn't have to do this or be that." We've been doing "don't have to" long enough. All that said, if we finish in the top 6 in run defense, I'll be pleased enough. You can't have probowlers at every position. I like Ivory. He'll be able to take some of the load off Shady's back and he's a gargantuan upgrade over Tolbert, even at his age.
