What I remember from that Browns game is they couldnt move the ball at all until they put Manziel in. If he cared about football at all during that time I think the worst he would have been was someone like Tyrod Taylor, he had the talent. Complete waste, but maybe he has a Flutie sort of comeback. Big Notre Dame fan and watching him over two years there he reminded me a lot of E.J, Manuel. Big, good arm, athletic but just made a lot of bad throws and poor decisions. That said, I wasnt high on him coming out.. We will see I suppose. I will say I love what the Browns have done over the last few years. I was actually excited to watch them Monday and I never watch NFL Preseason outside of the Bills. They were fun to watch on defense, really flying around. Peppers looks like a good pick as well.

Think you end up with Matthews Jones Holmes Brown Tate Powell Reilly or Dez Lewis Think Streater ends up on IR. Not sure how anyone thinks this is any worse than last year. Watkins was hurt, Woods was and is a subpar number 2, Goodwin shouldnt have been anything more than a kick returner, and then you had Powell, Justin Hunter, and Brandon Tate. Not to mention the Percy Harvin experiment. Bottom line is for the most part pass catchers are the creation of pass throwers. With a good quarterback Matthews, Jones, and Holmes are plenty good enough.

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Could make the point that the quarterback’s level on play is what elevated the remainder of the team and had them on the board to be drafted in the first place. Good points on the number of players drafted on those teams. Just wondering how many of those same players were quality draft picks in the NFL? Just dont think Rosen is anywhere near the player he is made out to be, particularly in the areas of accuracy, leadership, ball security and winning. He has a nice arm, but its not special. He isn’t overly accurate, not even 60% (recognize his stats aren’t inflated because of the prostyle offense) and he hasn’t played in or won enough games for me to consider him a high or even low 1st round pick. I think Darnold and Rudolph will both be better pros. Also think Mayfield will be better but recognize how much of a wild card he is. For what its worth I love Allen’s arm but think he is overrated as well. The good news is I am just some goof who isn’t paid a dime to try and figure these things out, so I could be completely wrong.

Understood, we are just on completely different ends of the spectrum. I think if you look at the successful teams in the NFL, one thing sets them apart and that’s their Quarterback. The difference in margin of talent in the NFL is so minimal, that you need to find the equalizer, and the equalizer, at least in my opinion is the man who has the ball in his hands the most throughout the game. To your point on win-loss percentage, I also disagree. Going back to 2012 draft class (excluding the last two draft classes, too early to speak to it) five Quarterbacks appear to have a proven track record in the NFL; Winston, Mariota, Carr, Luck, Wilson and Cousins. Not one of those players had a win percentage under 61% in college. The lowest of that group was Carr who lost 16 games, and 9 of those games were in his first year of starting. I think your example of Goff is perfect to my point, no doubt that he was fun to watch in college but he only won 37% of his games, and it was clear he shouldn’t have been the first quarterback taken.

It's quite possible I am dense, but having a hard time understanding what inference this article is attempting to make about Rosen? Appears they are blaming the OC for the team’s struggles, but for me that’s a flimsy argument. Like I said, I may be dense and am missing the point. Rosen has only won 57% of his starts at UCLA, and only 27% against quality opponents. Is he talented sure, a lot of kids at the college level are. What I fail to get is all the hype around him. Personally I think he ends up a backup in the NFL. Could I be wrong, of course? I just dont see it with him. Neither the statistical results nor the film jump out as warranting a 1st Round grade.

Not a fan of Rosen, and not only because his "hot takes" are trite. For all the hype surrounding the guy his film is less than thrilling. Reminds me a lot of the Brad Kaaya situation from last year. Tall enough plays in a pro-style offense, but for all of his intelligence holds the ball way too long and takes a ton of sacks. On top of that he isn’t a winner, and isn’t all that impressive against ranked opponents. On the opposite end of things all that Baker Mayfield does is win and flash on film, with very little first round hype because of his size. I don’t think the spread offense thing should be downplayed; however it only takes one team to look over that, see Deshaun Watson and Houston. Josh Allen’s arm is unreal, I mean about as special as special gets. But, when he starts making mistakes watch out, it’s like an avalanche. One player who I think will shoot up the boards near draft time is Mason Rudolph. He checks almost all the boxes. Size, Big Arm, Winner and can make all the throws. Right now I’d consider these players in the 1st Round Darnold Rudolph Mayfield Allen If he comes out Rosen will slip, for what its worth.

Also happy about this. Simply put wideouts are a nice to have, and quarterbacks are a must have. If this helps us get a long term answer at quarterback I am all for it. If you didnt make this move you end up getting nothing for a player you spent a fortune to get. If he has a bust season you lose out from the jump, if he plays great you end up paying 12-14million for a player with one year of elite production, it was a no win situation. Sammy may have helped sell tickets, but he never made enough of an impact on the field to help the team win in a substantial way.

I didnt start my son that early, but I did start taking him to the kids game every year starting when he was 3. We didnt tailgate at all. Just drove there parked, got to our seat and watched the game. I thought the atmosphere was fine for him, but I think that had a lot to do with it being kids day. The first two years, when he was 3 and 4 respectively we stayed until halftime and left. I thought that worked out well. Last year he made it through three quarters. I think its important to remember every kid is different. I took my nephew the second year when he and my son were both 4, and he wanted to leave five minutes into the game. I would suggest having another adult go with you so youre not trying to keep up with the demands of two toddlers. Even if they love the game and sit quitely, they will want food and they will need to go to the bathroom, and that will only be stressful.

No, Ive never been a college athlete. But again, no one is making college athletes continue to stay in college or continue to be an athlete if doing one or both is too hard. I am not denying the fact it may be difficult, but its also not the only difficulty facing college students, and athletes arent the only ones who have full time jobs while attending college. Your statement that kids from good financial homes struggle in school is a little baseless, I dont doubt its true, but also not an outlier. I also dont feel like its up to College to prepare someone for life. You pay to learn, not for them to make you more mature. That should start with parents, and be coupled with the fact that by 18 or 19 years old you shouldnt be a complete child any longer. I dont disagree that the NCAA is a sham, but I am also not going to feel bad for student athletes who do profit from both being in college and also being an athlete. Also on your point about being made to go to college...no one, not a single person has ever been "made" to go to college. They could just as easily not go to college, which means they wouldnt be able to pursue the NFL. Kind of like how I couldnt pursue my job without going to college. Furthermore, can we please do away with the poor kid from the South makes it big stereotype like everyone who guys to Alabama to play football is some podunk idiot with superior physical talents like Shaq's character in Blue Chips? The one which Rosen seems to reference here. I dont have the stats, but athletes are groomed long before they enter college and passing, lineman and other camps arent cheap.

The topic he is speaking about has been beat to death. Aside from the free tuition the athletes are given, they also have the ability to walk away with a degree which will make them a great deal more money throughout their lifetime than they could have ever expected without college. Do they make the money up front? Officially no (unofficially, how many of you have driven a Cadillac in college?), but make no mistake, in some way shape or form football gives them the opportunity they may not have had without it. If having "two full time jobs" is too much for someone, they have the free will to quit one or both of those and deal with the consequences. No one is keeping them in the insufferable situation. If they dont like the situation, they have free reign to leave. I have a very hard time drumming up empathy for people in advantageous situations who complain because their situation isnt more advantageous. Average people go to work everyday for billion dollar companies in a lot less enviable situations with less personal financial gains, and somehow still appreciate the paycheck. It's pretty clear Rosen has never been one of those people. On the football side of things, his game tape is underwhelming and reminds me a lot of the Brad Kaaya hype from last summer.

The only question left to ask on Sammy is if you'd pay top ten wideout money to someone like Golden Tate or Emmanuel Sanders. Sammy's production is similar, would be better if he could be on the field for more than 12-13 games a year on average. He has all the talent in the world but at this point I wouldnt pay him top wideout money.
