  1. The problem with using statistics to analyze sports games is they tend to group games together, rather than looking at each game for what it is, a single data point in time that will never happen again. All of the variables for a football game are not accounted for because the rosters, the coaches, the weather, and the stadium are never exactly alike. Additionally, the point spread is a made up number calculated in some form, by a human. I love numbers, but I will freely say applying statistics to sports has more to do with bored people who like both statistics and sports wanting to mash them together. I am not saying numbers are useless in sports, by they need to be applied to the portions of the sport with less variables. Win/Loss predictions include way too many variables to be accurate.
  2. They will always be the San Diego Super Chargers to me. I dont even bother to correct myself anymore.
  3. The Reich connection helps. What I am saying is this, if Kelly didnt have NFL level athletic ability he wouldnt be there. If it were as simple as him being Kelly's nephew every one of his nephews would be on an NFL roster. He had enough talent to compete for a starting job in the NFL last year. Then he blew it. As much as his talent is overblown here, I think there is an underlying angst about him being Kelly's nephew which has some posters a bit cloudy about his actual football talent, which is obviously amongst the top one percent in the world given his current and former standing in the league.
  4. Sorry, but he doesn't keep getting opportunities because he is Jim's nephew with mediocre talent. Jim has plenty of other nephews who played football at the college level and didnt make it to the NFL just because they were his nephew. You dont get scholarships to two Division 1 programs just because you're a hall of famer's nephew. Chad Kelly keeps getting opportunities because he has great talent. Had he not been the head case you speak to, or been hurt during the draft process he probably ends up being a 3rd or 4th round pick. He is tremendously talented. Has he spoiled his talent, yes he has. But make no mistake about it, he has NFL level talent.
  5. Less filler, better for you. Make for better Chili Dogs, but I would say for just a simple hot dog Sahlens is a bit better.
  6. Not upset at this. Sammy Watkins got more per year in KC, and Zeke is 3 times the player he is, albeit at a different position. Should be interesting to see how they pay Dak and keep the oline together. Cooper is going to have to give them a hometown discount.
  7. I still have the antenna. I probably should have waited it out, just wanted to point and click with TV.
  8. All quarterbacks are technically system quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield threw a ton of 3-5 yard passes with the Sooners. Just depends on how they play when they get into a new system. It's hard to tell what a quarterback will be once they change offenses.
  9. I liked him a lot coming out of Cal. He has all the tools and seems to be a great leader. The one thing I did notice when watching him in college is the avalanche of bad decisions. Once he starts making bad plays they dont stop.
  10. So you're saying its possible? Because neither did Beane.
  11. Ill say it in every post about this kid, for all the bad he has done, he has done a hell of a lot of good for WNY as well. I will keep praying his story ends up well, if nothing else for the work he has done with the local youth, and his support of locals with special needs. We all have good and bad in us, just so happens this kid is talented enough for message boarders to be talking about him.
  12. I doubt ownership is worrying too much about players staging a revolt when some of those same players are responsible for one winning season in the last ten years. Miami needs to change their culture, and big time. Getting rid of Gase was huge step forward. I am pretty sure they will be more than happy to send anyone staging a revolt to the waiver wire considering winning really isnt in the cards this year anyways.
  13. May want to check out the rates of CTE among soccer players as well. Odd how many concussions you get hitting a ball with your head. I would think a person who prefers well spoken, intelligent, and analytical takes at a standard volume would have researched them prior to posting something demeaning a portion of their country, children and frat boys.
  14. No. Backup quarterback is a position teams use mid round draft picks, and pay good money to try and solidify. Lets just keep our good backup and keep that safe feeling.
  15. I think the more likely scenario is Zay is complaining to his parents about playing time and his slide to 4th on the depth chart, which prompted the reaction. I highly doubt his agent or Zay knows about the Bills exploring a trade. His parents seem a bit immature, but more than anything protective of Zay. Kind of like whiny little league parents.
  16. Ths trade talks have been going on prior to this week, see the length of this thread. If he wanted to sign long term he would have. The I was on my way garbage is a ploy to not make him look like a selfish player once he sits out or demands a trade to the team he wants to go to. He wants the exact money he wants, and to choose the exact team he wants to pay him. The Texans royally screwed this up.
  17. I think a lot of NFL fans feel for players who end up disabled because of the choice they make to play the game, unless said fans are complete sociopaths . The bottom line remains it is a choice. I feel a lot worse for miners, soldiers, and fisherman who do dangerous jobs that come with a lot less pay. That said, what the Colts fans did the other day was inane. Additionally, give the owners thing a break. Its an incredibly tired argument that stems more from class jealousy than anything else. We all have bosses who come from better financial standing than we do. In many cases, those bosses sacrifice less of their life and health for the good of the company. Society really needs to start moving away from this lack of consequences thing we have going on. Does it suck when an alcoholic's liver and kidneys go bad, yes. But, no one is forcing alcohol down their throat. They are adults who made a bad choice which has negative consequences. In the same vein football players are not victims. The facts about the dangers of the game are out there. They can no longer claim ignorance. Agreed, Rodgers is a weird guy.
  18. With all due respect I think this idea took on a life of its own when Mario started complaining about it. Pretty sure he dropped into coverage on less than 5% of the snaps that year. The real story was he hit the wall hard at 30, and thought too highly of himself to be a team player. The guy lost it, and quick. He made excuses for himself, and negative journalists like Sully ran with it because someone was giving him attention and material. Was a great player for us. But Rex wasnt Mario's issue. He wasnt any better in Miami the next year.
  19. Really like Yellow Ledbetter. I dont understand a word Eddie says but I sing along all the yebba debbas. Just Breathe has become one of my more favorite chill out and think songs as well.
  20. Listen I understand. I have a very similar existence. I listen to podcasts at work and WGR on my way home. I skip the youtube. Just try not to generalize on the things that make people worthless nerds. Tends to be that people judge others on things they take enjoyment in. We all work our butts off (I think) so try not to kill what little joy a working life allows people.
  21. Grew up on SRV. If I really need to zen out I throw on Lenny or his version of Little Wing. Was just playing Life by the Drop this weekend. I'd throw him above Hendrix because I enjoy Southern Blues a little more than what Hendrix was doing stylistically. Toss up between Clapton and SRV.
  22. The real NFL is perpetuated by stats and numbers geeks. I think its a pretty hard generalization to say only nerds who didnt play football play fantasy football. I played it, and now coach it. I also take part in two leagues because my friends asked me to be a part of it. Not for nothing, were you not the guy in another post who spends his day listening to podcasts, wgr, and watching youtube at night? Glass houses my friend.
  23. This is incredibly well put. The benefits my kids get from being a part of a team outweigh the risks right now.
  24. 1. Tom Brady made Bill Belichick. BB was 41-55 as a head coach prior to Brady, had one winning season in the 6 without Brady. Hasnt had a losing season since. 2. College Athletes should not be paid. They get free education, free food, free housing, free medical attention, and leave college with a degree if they have any sort of foresight. Additionally, many of them leave school with no student loan debt. I understand coaches make millions, but every business, and I am sorry but college is a business, has a wage scale. If they dont like not being paid, they could always get a job right out of high school. 3. I know Aaron Rodgers is good, I see it in the stats and the wins. Yet, there is a small part of me that thinks he is overrated. 4. I love the color rush jerseys and hate the white on blue uniforms.
