  1. And then let Gronk get busy?? That Chiefs actually made an adjustment to Edelman killing them in the middle but then the Pats started lining Gronk up wide on the single receiver side. Also, listen to yourself. You can't triple team Edelman and simultaneously "take the run away." You triple team Edelman and you are conceding the run and Gronk singled up.
  2. I'm not sure I completely agree with this. I mean if you are Andy you go ahead and score because you might get the football back and need to score anyway. Even if they were to take it down to the 2 min. The Pats still had 3 TO's. If you score on the next play they still have 1:50 + with 3 TOs.
  3. The Chiefs tried to help themselves with an adjustment to what is referred to as 1 Cross, where the Safety takes the first inbreaking route from the #2 or #3 WR on the strong side. They had too because Edelman was killing them in the middle. But then the Pats countered quickly by lining up in a 3x1 and have Gronk on the single side and hit him on the post. The biggest problem is the middle of the field is open. And as much as I hate to admit it, Brady is a damn surgeon out there. ON the 4th and 1 TD by the Pats, everyone knew that QB sneak would be the call. The Chiefs covered up GCG with three defensive lineman, but the C gaps were weak. Brady saw it and immediately audibled. TD Pats. ☹️ You have to play perfect football.
  4. The only advantage the Rams have is Wade Phillips. He seems to be the only defensive mind that knows how to play the Patriots offense. It just sickening watching these guys call coverage schemes that defend things the Patriots do not do. For instance, the Patriots do not have a vertical perimeter game at all. SO why in the hell to coordinators call cover 2 defense against them, which allows the Pats to actually play to their strength. They hit you in the middle. The Pats are all about the middle of the field because teams for some reason run cover 2 Man coverage???????? Why??? If you press they motion to get that specific guy open. If you play off your DB will get picked. IT's simple. They are not doing anything special, yet here we are. You sit back in cover 3 and Brady will get surgical. Then you watch the Pats defense doing EXACTLY what teams should be doing ot the Pats offense. BEAT THE HELL out of the WRs within the first five yards and send pressure right up the middle. ?
  5. Please don't. He's 35. His athleticism has hit the bricks. He'd be a good leader for the defense but he's just too old, so is LORAX. We only need one of them for veteran leadership.
  6. Ferrell was a monster too. I know everyone has bad games, but Ferrell dominated Jonah Williams.
  7. I read an article on cbssports yesterday that echoed what I said. A Chargers player I forget his name said they knew 70% of the Ravens plays. That loss is entirely on the coaching IMO. You can't come back and do the same thing and expecting the same results when the other team is doing something else to stop what you did before. No adjustments is completely on the coaching.
  8. It's not an either or thing is a both thing. And most of the teams in the playoffs actually have good defenses anyway. Some may not be as good as others, but every team in the playoffs has a pretty good defense. The issue is some of them do not have ENOUGH offense to compliment it or they are actually playing against another good defense that is good at what their offensive strength is. It's not like the Eagles do not have one of the better front 7's in the league so the Bears offense was definitely going to struggle. Same thing for Baltimore. They had to play SD with a healthier Bosa this time around. Plus SD switched up what they were doing. The Colts defense has been great the last month of the season. Dallas has a great unit. So on and so forth. The issue going forward is going to be which of these teams has enough offense vs whoever they are playing to compliment their defense.
  9. Jackson is very limited at this point, but I think he can develop and learn the game. I see the biggest issue with the Ravens offense yesterday is they thought that what they did last time was going to work this time. SD changed up their defense and at times ran with 7 defensive backs, using Safeties at Linebacker. To me, this is where guys like Josh McDaniel's shines and old guys like Marty Morniweig keep trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. If they were using that many defensive backs and had some of them playing linebacker, I had to ask, why didn't you actually make the play linebacker then. The same way teams confused Edmunds in the run game is exactly what Baltimore should have adjusted too since those DB's are not used to playing linebacker and understanding all the keys that a linebacker has to understand and know. They didn't test those guys intellect at the linebacker position. They just lined up and ran the same option plays they ran in the previous game and SD killed it. Use Jet motion, run misdirections and traps; run HB screens to get big bodied linemen on defensive backs. They did none of that and stuck with exactly what they did in the first game.
  10. I thought Baltimore waited way too late to get out of the option game. Secondly, they didn't try to throw the Chargers off by using a lot of Jet motion, like the Chargers did to their defense.
  11. I think you work from the inside out. So finding a great C is the most necessary IMO. Because of familiarity with Daboll I wouldn't mind Ross Pierschbacher, Alabama. The guy I would prefer though is Eldgton Jenkins.
  12. Will he turn the corner in discernment though. I don't know what happened. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. i don't know. What I do know is now he has a chance to make more informed decisions and to better himself. What will he do?
  13. While I agree on the tackling, my argument would be he showed 1) He has good coverage skills; 2) he knows how to use his length to disrupt passes. 3) He showed good press technique at the line of scrimmage; 4) He showed he can track the football while staying with the WR; 5) He showed understanding of the scheme. Now with all of that, to me, that's the making of a starting CB. You are right on what you've pointed out. With so many positives though, I'd hesitate to throw the kid out of there for someone else. To me, what you point out is something he has to grow into. If that's all he has to grow in to, why would I be in a hurry to get rid of him or to have him on the bench? I certainly think we should take a corner at some point in the draft just for the sake of competition and the fact that you can never have too many DBs in a passing league. Your indictment though seems to not even consider the positive dimensions of the guys game. Functional strength can be gathered in the offseason, eating, lifting and training program. He can also work on his tackling technique.
  14. I don't think he'll make it to our pick. To me, he's the closest thing to Mack since Mack was drafted. I think he has that kind of ability. I see him going to the Jets or Raiders.
  15. This had to happen in order for this team to move forward. Juan may be a good person but this is now two teams he's destroyed the OL play.
  16. Update: After the bowl game loss Vaughn is now undecided on whether he will return to school. So he could be an option.
  17. He needs to be ready to find a better OL coach and drop the one we have. Look to Steve Wilks for D Coordinator if Frazier gets a gig.
  18. He may have played in 111 out of 128 but his impact wasn't the same in all of those games because of his injuries. I'd rather take a young guy and continue the youth movement on offense. His acumen and feel for the game would certainly be great for our young guys, but Green and it's not his fault, just tends to get hurt at the wrong time. I'd rather use the 2nd round pick on a young player. I'm not completely against Green, I'd just rather use it on a young player. Of course the counter argument could be well anybody can get hurt at any time and I'll concede that.
  19. If Edmunds can build off that game and they add a havoc front 7 player who can get after the QB and someone who can plug the run better then I think the defense should be fine. Add some mid/late round depth at CB then they should be fine defensively. Offensively is where they will need to build the trenches and add one more player on the perimeter who can take the top off as well as just be a problem in general. I'd add one more back behind McCoy with the same playmaking ability. TE could also be a good spot to add another body. I think we can get to 10 wins.
  20. No and there are two reasons, 1. I don't like the age. If we are trying to get younger then do that. 2. Availability. Green gets hurt just about every year and the Bengals offense falls off the cliff every time.
  21. All 22 is great, but if you want schemes and concepts here are a couple of sites I've followed for years. http://smartfootball.com/ http://www.blitzology.com/ http://www.syedschemes.com/pass-concepts/ If you want to spend the money on books and DVD's from AFCA then that's fine too, I have an entire library of that stuff, but with the internet like it is now, you probably don't need too. Although there are some wrinkles that they have on those videos that you don't hear too much about online.
  22. If they stay with their building ways from the Panthers, DT could easily be the pick.
  23. As someone who has Vandy season tickets and watched him all year I'd say, first, from what he's indicated he's going back to school. Second, he's a game changer, however, he does suffer from the small nagging injuries like Shady does. In at least three home games this year, Vaughn had an amazing play in the first half, came back in for a couple of series and then we never saw him in the second half. He'd get the small injuries that prevented him from returning. I think it has to do with his low body fat percentage. Kid has very low body fat so when he makes contact there's nothing to absorb the hit. I love his game breaking ability though. JoJuan Willams is a CB/S I'd like to have in the 3rd if he doesn't climb.
  24. I think the biggest issue for us is the OL and having that other option WITH McCoy. Ivory got dinged up this year and the OL was just not that great at opening lanes for the HB's. It's telling that Josh Allen is our leading rusher and most of that is from pass plays that broke down and he got out of there. This may be more of an indictment of Juan than it appears. Not to say that it was McDermott's intention to do that.
  25. Jones gets open. Allen just has to see more of the field. Once it slows down for Allen, Jones will get more targets. What I would like to see next year though is Jones moved to the slot for the 3 WR set and have Foster and another speed guy on the outside. I think that would be ideal.
