Mix and match Allen/Mahomes and Reid/McDermott
Success replied to Lifefan1's topic in The Stadium Wall
I shouldn't generalize like that. I'm sure that's true. I'd amend my remarks to "quite a few online fans." And I get that they're a different demographic than the whole of a fanbase. -
Mix and match Allen/Mahomes and Reid/McDermott
Success replied to Lifefan1's topic in The Stadium Wall
KC fans talk about Allen the exact same way that Pats fans talked about Manning for years. It's not just that "Mahomes is better." Josh Allen has to be total trash. No in-between. No, 'oh, they always have great games, and both are great, but to this point Mahomes has gotten the better of it.' It's lame. Now, of course, Pats fans hype Manning up - because they want to make it seem like Brady had some resistance on the way to "greatness." -
The "mortal enemy" thing is actually a plus for me. Pats fans would go out of their minds to see us win a title w/ him.

Nyheim Hines will not be a cap casualty for FA (Edit: Wrong)
Success replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hines is talented. He, Johnson & Cook sounds good to me. -
I'd like to add - in a normal year, where only untested coordinators were available, I'd be generally okay w/ keeping McDermott. I see him as a solid coach, in a league where bad coaching is more common than good coaching. But this is a real chance that we're presented with here, and only here. Next year, if we fall short again - our choices will likely be only untested coordinators. The bottom line: who will give us a better chance for a title next year? McDermott, or the GOAT?

This is why I hate the argument that Mahomes is so much better than Allen. And when people make it, it's always about the TEAM accomplishments Mahomes has. -
I agree w/ your last line there - but fortune favors the bold. When he had a top QB, he averaged a Super Bowl every other year. The Pats downfall was because of Belichick the GM - not the coach.

Great QBs and the # of SuperBowl Victories
Success replied to Bills!Win!'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, I'm in the "one before I die" crowd. I'm sure when we win one, I'll want more - but just one will bury all of the demons. Then, it will just be about enjoyment. I'm sure of that. I think Allen gets one in the next few years, and who knows - maybe another when he's in his 30's. And that's fantastic. Brady changed a lot of perspectives on this. All of a sudden, unless you have a dynasty or get a bunch of titles, it's insufficient. But for this fan, 1 is just fine. -
Such excellent perspective here. And the proper one. I was telling my kids - as a fan, I did literally everything I could possibly do to help them win by wearing my lucky shirt. Which is to say, as fans, we can't really do or change anything. The coaches coach, the players play, and all we can do is deal with and hopefully accept the results. I'm also older, and feel my attitude changing. I'm not less of a fan at all, but I accept losses like this one more easily. I have no power over what happens. I plan to just enjoy watching Buffalo Bills football, which is pretty easy w/ one of the most entertaining players in the league, and hoping that we eventually get one. And if we don't, it's not a tragedy. A lot of things in the world are tragedies. Never seeing your team win it all is kind of a bummer, but it's minor in the scheme of things. I love my Bills, and always will.

56 million watched Chiefs @ Bills - Most watched divisional game ever
Success replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, I'm still struggling today. I posted after the game that I was more low-key about this loss. But as the hours have passed, I find myself fighting this sense of hopelessness. Like, if we couldn't do it Sunday, or last year at home, or the year before w/ just a few ticks left on the clock - when can we ever do it? I try to rationalize that it took other great athletes years and multiple losses to the same team before breaking through (Manning, Jordan, etc.) But that's just hope talk. This might be as far as we ever get in today's AFC. And we have one of the 2 best QB's in the game - I happen to still think he's the best. It's immensely frustrating. -
The Bills should have never had to fight to get the 2 seed this year. But, without a ton of luck, we still would have missed the playoffs. PI not getting called in the Giants game, Toney being Offside, breaks in the Chargers, Pats & Dolphins games. This team could have finished much worse. Would they have kept McDermott on if we missed the playoffs entirely? Doubt it. And that's troubling. Because we might be keeping a coach because a WR had his foot 6" over the LOS.

Beane & McDermott end of season press conferences
Success replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most other years, I wouldn't be all gung ho about replacing the HC. But this year is unbelievably unique. I don't think it's a stretch to say it's a once in a decade opportunity, with the coaches who are actually available. What if we get knocked out in the WC or divisional next year, and THEN decide it's finally time to move on? We'll have our choice of hyped coordinators, who typically fizzle at the HC job. -
I was thinking 3rd round. Safety would be an unusual round 1 pick. But I wouldn't want to wait too long. We'll need an immediate impact player.
-
White would be more likely, imo. But they'll probably draft someone high, and pick up a FA.

At the end, how Josh Allen's carrer will look like ?

GOAT. -
If this keeps going - teams will think twice about trying to beat us in the playoffs. I like it.

I think there is a decent shot the D would have stepped up at the end if we scored the TD. The crowd would have been insane. But no doubt - a FG would have been a loss. -
Beane & McDermott end of season press conferences
Success replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I commented the other night that in his post-game presser, it seemed like there were a lot of things he wasn't saying. I didn't want to read too much into it - but he HAS to be frustrated that he's still carrying this team, and by playing as well as he is & coming up short yet again. And we can see why this week. In addition to it just being disappointing, half of the talk in the media is stuff like "is Allen overrated?", and dissecting his decision to go for an OPEN TD like he threw a pick into triple coverage. I can't name another Bill who made an impact play on Sunday. The defense - McD's specialty - was an epic letdown for a 3rd year in a row. -

This is the 1st year that I've really turned on the Chiefs. I try not to let "they beat the Bills" be my barometer on stuff like that. I always liked Reid, I like Kelce, and in past years, I have liked Mahomes & respected his game. But now, their fans have gotten irritating. Most give Allen such little credit - it's only about "Mahomes is the best, no one is close." And as for Mahomes, he's just a punk. I was wrong about him. Crybaby, and a poor sport. -

The talking heads forgot that football isn't tennis. And I agree - if the Ravens win, it will be because of great defense. But the narrative will be "Lamar bests Mahomes!" -
I agree w/ this. It's a perfect situation for him, in every way. And I think he knows that whoever hires him, he's just coaching. I hate to say this, but I think not hiring him may be a profound regret at some point. There is no one I would trust more to finally push this team through for a title.

Divisional Playoffs - Chiefs at Bills - Post game thread
Success replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most in the media thought Allen was a big-armed bust when he was drafted. Everything since is their lame attempt to justify their original prediction. Allen can play a game like Sunday, where he carried the team and should have left that field w/ even more points if Diggs makes a catch and Bass makes a FG - but the narrative since Sunday is almost exclusively, "But that throw! That throw to the EZ when he had Diggs underneath! Hero ball!" Meanwhile, Mahomes misses 2 guys who were wide open in the endzone, and has a defense that actually made stops. But it's all "Mahomes magic - again!" for him. Complete double-standard. Even when Allen wins it all, they'll probably just compare him to Flacco or Gannon....that one "lucky" run. -
I think Vrabel would make this team mentally tougher, which we need. My 1st choice would be Belichick, but after that, I'd be really happy w/ Vrabel. He has never had a QB like Allen or close to it. So much of what is holding this team back right now is psychological, and I think he'd give the team the edge they need to overcome that.
