They didn’t have a QB that was willing or able to throw to him at the time. Eventually you have to pay players, not everyone will be on a rookie contract. WRs make big $$ as do QBs and top CB’s then OTs. That’s the NFL salary structure, and thus far this FO hasn’t drafted a WR worth a damn. What makes anyone think they know how to evaluate players ? 5 teams wanted Watkins in FA. That pretty much says it all.

And that’s why hindsight is for fans. HC’ s and especially GMs are paid the huge $$ to have foresight. Thats what’s lost on folks who throw that old chestnut about hindsight around. You need to have some real skill ( and some luck) to be a good GM. If you don’t, you’ll be fired and thrown on the scrap heap. Imagine telling your owner you didn’t draft Mahomes when you had the chance, but “hey hindsight is 20/20”..

Throw Beane in there too. And next time , hire a GM before the HC.

He’s smart and a pretty good athlete, but there’s not much about him right now that make you think he can ever play NFL QB at a high level.

Ahhh, but that doesn’t mean Watkins would have had similar numbers of targets in Buffalo. There is no Kelce, no Hill etc. Say what you will about Watkins, but he’d easily be the best WR on the team and the biggest threat in the passing game. When your team has no talent, trading away good players looks foolish.

This is mostly what happens when you can’t tackle without a penalty flag and you can’t sack a QB without same. It’s funny, the NFL is doing everything it can to outlaw playing defense and scoring is up in a huge way as a result. Meanwhile , the Bills offense can barely manage an occasional first down.

Maybe not the same, but still would look like a man among boys and easily the best player on the Offense. Just would need some help. But his talent and accuracy would make a difference already in a huge way. He’s like a smaller, way faster Ben Roethlisberger. The fact they have to figure out a game plan tells you something. It’s not just send a blitz every play and he’s toast .

Andy Reid doesn’t put the ball right where it needs to be. Josh Allen couldn’t make that thing work like it is. Maybe in three years , but I highly doubt it. It’s Jimmys and Joes, not Xs and Os.

It was a little over the top iirc. The crusade was droning and endless. It wasn’t contributing anything to the board but annoyance, so it was just as well. No amount of message board crusading is going to make a teams FO do anything different. Just got ridiculous after awhile.

Sorry, but you don’t get anything for saying you like a particular College QB. The Chiefs and their FO will reap the rewards, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t call you or jeffiswhatever for advice before making the pick. If the Bills organization wasn’t dysfunctional and picked Mahomes, fans would root for him just as they will root for whoever wears the cloth. But fans don’t make decisions , they just hope the actual people working for their favorite team make the choices they like. What if these fans on TSW agreed with you? The Bills still would not have drafted Mahomes.

Well no, but they could easily have spent just a single first round draft pick on Mahomes.

Not for nothing, but fans aren’t the ones making the draft picks. The current Bills FO needs to “ own it”. Fans don’t have a say in these things, they just root for whoever is wearing the laundry.

That’s what happens when your dysfunctional organization does things in the improper order. If they had hired a new GM first , then a HC ( the usual way) they probably would have drafted a Mahomes or Watson. Now this will haunt the Bills for over a decade most likely. What an absolute mess.

Young was regarded as a bust early on. It wasn’t until he ( self admittedly) reinvented his game to make more plays from the pocket that he became a great NFL QB.

That’s because they chose to have a completely new team. That’s a tough way to turn a franchise around, and one that probably takes longer than they will get.

In other words, he wasn’t a first round QB. Don’t despair ....yet .

Pretty rough sledding at QB, with a few glimpses of good play. Defense seems to be getting it together. The offense is the worst we’ve seen since at least 2001, with very little talent. In essence, a throwaway year of Josh Allen starts with no reinforcements arriving until 2019.

The DB wasn’t playing the receiver though, he was making a play on the ball. Two players collided while trying to catch a ball. That’s what it amounts to. The contact was incidental, so now flag was thrown. If Clinton Dix tried to time up a tackle and made that contact, it likely would have been a flag. This is a judgment call, and in my opinion the official was correct to keep the flag in his pocket. As I’ve stated before, if that’s Tredavious White making that INT I’d be livid if the flag was thrown because the contact was incidental. You have to allow players to play, and this was a good no call. Conversely, many instances of holding by Green Bay went uncalled and the Bills had a legitimate gripe there.

Could happen. Bell’s trade value is minimal as there is no guarantee he returns to the team that trades for him next season. A player plus a pick ,as PIT is supposedly asking is a pipe dream. Bell would be more likely to actually report to a contender. Bell will likely be moved at the deadline for relatively minimal compensation as he will be gone and PIT will accept something vs getting nothing when Bell walks.

Massive oversimplification here.... The DB had as good or better a shot at that ball as KB did. This doesn’t always happen, obviously. Doing what you describe will get a flag in a vast majority of situations.

Don’t forget McVay, guy is a legit offensive guru. Can’t underestimate that. Rams had plenty of talent to begin with, McDermott may be the Bills Fisher.
