  1. Reading the OP and the statement concerning the DL rotation, it's a reminder that there are no impact players on defense, other than maybe Milano if he's healthy - and that's in question judging from Bean statements during press conference. Rousseau, Epenesa, and Miller are all average, or even slightly above due to experience. But they're not players any team is game planning against. The secondary has lost 3 of 5 pro-bowl caliber players in the last 2 years. Oliver is the top D lineman. He can be a force, but not consistently. As much a I'd love to see the Bills snag a play-making WR, they can use some help on defense. Hopefully, they'll make the most of all these draft picks.
  2. I think it's all going to come down to the grades they have on prospects when their choice comes up. If it's a choice between a DT on whom they have a high grade, or a WR who they like, but doesn't get a first round grade on their board, it's going to be the DT. It could be some other position, but I believe the Bills would apply the same strategy to their pick, regardless. If they can't get a player they grade high enough, I can see them trading back a few picks, maybe into the low second round if that would give them an extra pick in the third. I don't think they want to make the same mistake (I believe) that they made reaching for Elam. They're going to get cap compliant with a young low-wage squad and attempt to let the super stars keep the team competitive.
  3. The players can stay in the tropics for 6 months out of the year, no matter where they end up playing. They will play in cold weather at some time, no matter where they end up playing. They will never be exposed to the cold for much more than a maximum of 40 hours in any season during games. Probably about half that time. And only if they're unfortunate enough to play in a cold weather city, and every road game Nov-Jan is also not in a dome and outside in a cold weather city. Compare that amount of exposure to someone who works for a fraction of the money repairing power lines, roads, etc. I guess some of this has to be an understanding of what's defined as 'cold weather'. Is is under 50 degrees? 40? 30? The flip side is the players in Atlanta, Miami, Carolina, Arizona, even Washington. The players can be exposed to sweltering heat throughout training camp and the early part of the season. Bottom line is that the kid will have to go to whatever team drafts him, or he can elect not to play in the NFL. It's that simple. Maybe it's Deion who doesn't want to watch his kid in cold weather.
  4. First off, thanks to Scott and all the admins for providing this exceptional forum. For those of us ex-WNYers who want to keep up with our Bills, it's been a fair substitute for sitting around the local Buffalo gin mills debating and discussing out team. Prior to this development of this site, there was Rochester's Democrat & Chronicle message board, where several of us exchanged thoughts about the Bills. For perspective, this was a few years before 'the drought'! 3 years prior to the 2000 TBD tailgate, a handful of us faceless users of the D&C Hyperbills board met for the season opener against the Vikings. The game was on Aug 31, 1997. I don't remember why it started so early. I was at Rooties, a bar and wing joint on Millersport Hwy near UB Amherst, sitting with one of the multiple-personality comedians who trolled the message board. The screen flashed the news and the wreckage in Paris that killed Princess Diana. Oh well, pass the blue cheese. The Bills lost that weekend of course, but we had a good time. That was the last tailgate party I experienced with anyone from here, but maybe I'll make it up there for one of the tailgate parties before my body has other ideas. Hope you all have a great time. As Russert said, "please Bills, just one [super bowl win] before I die". Go Bills!
  5. If some team gave up a first round pick a less than 20, yeah. My rationale: for the sake of argument, lets say we had a Justin Jefferson level player at WR - would you trade him for Milano if he wasn't on the Bills? Obviously the answer is no. Using that argument as a starting point, if the Bills could bundle an acquired first rounder and an existing pick to get a 'can't miss WR', I'd take it in a heartbeat. Josh needs weapons to make the most of his high salary. Diggs is getting older. Gabe will be gone. Until the LB unit was decimated by injury, the fill-ins did an adequate job. Bernard is looking good. Dorian Williams is a good prospect. Dodson can play. Love Milano, but he's not a kid, has a higher cap hit, and reading into Bean's recent comments, Milano may not even be ready when the season starts, indicating his injury may be more serious than many of us suspected. As much as I'd hate to lose him, if it meant making the offense a high-flying feared unit, may answer would be go for it. Currently, if Diggs gets injured and is out for any period, the season is probably over. Go get the economical star WR.
  6. Q: What is your level of patience on not advancing to the Super Bowl? A: No patience, I would already have made a change. And yet, even moving the comma, (it should actually be a period) it still doesn't make sense in the context of the question. The first part and second part seem to contradict each other. Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall.
  7. this makes no sense. No, patience I would already have made a change What does that even mean? 1, 2, or 3 more seasons..... or what? Take up Pickleball on Sunday afternoons?
  8. Maybe the contractors don’t want live video of 10 of their union workers standing around a bon fire for an hour before work begins while they sip their morning coffee.
  9. I like Brown. I don't have any problem with is play. I think he was unfairly maligned by some, who maybe had unrealistic expectations for him as a starting NFL tackle. He was given baptism by fire as a rookie, and in '22, playing through an injury (bad ankle?) Young and still learning, his play was adequate in '23 and should continue to improve and be a fixture on the line for a good while.
  10. As much as I'm glad Josh is our guy, there's a little piece of me that feels like I'm having salt poured into a wound, knowing the Bills were the ones who provided the pick to the Chiefs that got them Mahomes. He has 3 Lombardi's and is young enough that it's not a stretch to think he'll continue to be a thorn in the Bills' side for many more years on the way to claiming more chrome hardware.
  11. Looking forward to progress pictures when we get to see the second one installed around August.
  12. II disagree with that also. The long established networks like CBS, ABC, and NBC and Fox generate HUGE amounts of revenue from advertisers. Also, they use viewership from football games to promote their own primetime shows, which in turn generate more advertising revenue. I don’t see that ever going away.
  13. Completely disagree. As long as there’s a market for the product, there will be an outlet for it Demand will determine pricing and the provider will always charge the maximum amount that will yield the maximum profit. With all due respect, I have no idea what you just said
  14. I've said this is the past. Everyone was so proud to 'cut the cord', thinking they were sticking it to the man. I predicted that it will only be a matter of time until the streaming services have everyone in their grasp at which time they'll have the leverage to stick it right back to the customer. They're not there quite yet, but getting closer all the time. Oh, it's so nice to pay $4.99 monthly for Hulu, or Peacock or Paramount. Sure....How long before the monthly fee mirrors the Netflix model, which started out at around 7.99? Now that they have everyone hooked, it's doubled for the same service. Those monthly smart TV app services will shoot up to $9.99/month, UNLESS, for the bargain price you want to purchase it for a full year for the low low price of only $79.99. Of course, you'll need about 4 different services to get all the content you want. Suddenly, you realize you're paying more than you ever did with cable. You'll be longing for the good old days of Directv, cable, and the NFL Sunday Ticket on Directv.
  15. Top notch scouting is the real key in these times of salary caps and franchise QBs who take a big chunk of the available cash. The best teams will have more hits than misses in the draft and FA. Fortunately, the Bills personnel staff have been very good at finding mid to late round picks that have become serviceable to very players. Cheap labor that can step in and get the job done when others become unaffordable high-priced veterans. Bernard taking the place of Edmunds is a prime example, and it looks like he'll not only cheaper, but better on the field. Win win. That's the sort of strategic roster-building that will keep the window open as long as they have Josh.
  16. No idea. I've seen quite a few games, but I believe there have been more wins than losses, including the first 2 Monday night games, KC in '73 and Raiders in '74* I was at the 1980 game when the Dolphins were finally defeated. It also seems that every Jet game I ever attended the Bills were on the losing end, including Kelly's debut. * I'm not sure why it is that the 1974 opener against the Raiders is hardly talked about or remembered, but it had a lot of the same excitement as the 13 second game. Maybe it's because in those times there were few outlets for replay, (no YouTube, VCRs, DVRs, etc), so instant access to game highlights or replays by fans was not yet thing, so maybe more easily forgotten. OJ was injured early and missed most of the game. Ahmad Rashad made several spectacular catches. Multiple scores and lead changes in the final couple of minutes. Unlike the 13 second game, the Bills won that one on the way to making their lone playoff appearance in about 14 seasons (the mini-drought).
  17. This 100%. But sadly, I don't believe it will ever happen. For whatever reason, WNY seems to be under a black cloud that it will never shed. For some reason, the universe has saddled us with being the good guys who can never quite get it done. In 55 seasons the Sabres have made it to the finals twice, and naturally, lost both. Las Vegas has only had an NHL team in like 6 years and already appeared in as many finals and won a championship. Shiny exciting Las Vegas! Not Buffalo. The Buffalo NBA team was taken away despite strong fan support. The Bills lost their first AFL title in 3 years to miss out on being in the first Superbowl. And of course, 4 in a row, wide right, no goal, 13 seconds, Tim McVeigh, OJ Simpson, etc etc We are the ever-optimistic Charlie Brown, going to finally kick that ball before Lucy snags it away. No matter how many times we see that scene, it will always be the same. No matter how many times we see the slow-motion footage of Scott Norwood's kick in Superbowl XXV, there's always some fantastical unrealistic hope that we'll see that ball go through the uprights and history is changed. This is just the cards Buffalonians have been dealt. The loveable losers. On the positive side, I no longer get too upset when the Bills season is ended prematurely. I expect it. I'll still enjoy watching as long as I'm alive and able to. But win a Superbowl? Not likely. We're Buffalo. We don't get those prizes like Dallas, L.A. and those other more glamorous places enjoy. Never more would I love to be wrong.
  18. Without deep-digging analysis, the win-loss record over a 7 year period should be enough to provide a snapshot of McD's success. Quick, name the other NFL coaches with a better W-L record in that same span. Reid? Probably. (I'm not digging deep). Who else? The stupidity of the dissidents is that they NEVER offer any sure-fire solution. I'm convinced there are fair share of posters in this forum who are not too bright, so I wouldn't really expect they'd offer solutions.
  19. A couple nuts who don’t accurately reflect the fan base. Probably done dopey gambler who lost his savings. Think Billy Brown in Buffalo ‘66 who was out to get Scott Wood after wide right.
  20. It's cumulative. How can you break it down to individual moments in a specific game and draw conclusions from that? It's like isolating a few minutes in your life and defining who you are by that. 6 playoff appearances in 7 years. 4 straight division titles. Double digit win totals in spite of massive losses to injury. Using the same rationale of the 'Fire McDermott' crowd, Harbaugh should be canned if his team loses this week to the Chiefs. How many times have the Ravens missed the playoffs, not made it past wildcard round? It's been what, 12 seasons since they made it to the Superbowl? Only 3 playoff wins in that period of time. Harbaugh must go, right? Referencing the playoff wins and Championships won in a similar span of time, Tomlin, Shanahan, McCarthy, LeFleur should all be fired by that logic. If the instant-gratification crowd ever grasps how difficult it is to get into the late rounds of the playoffs, let alone get on the tournament in the first place, maybe then they'll shut up about firing McDermott.
  21. What turned around the results for the Dolphins and the Ravens? Adding weapons. Receivers. What caused the Chiefs to struggle (relatively speaking) more than in the past? When a team is spending 50 million a year on a QB, he's got to have weapons to make the most of that investment. A second tier one WR could be the catalyst to make the passing game more effective. Go ahead, double Stef. We dare you. At some point another top receiver will create mismatches.
  22. Good fact-based collection of info. There are people here who seem to think that winning Championships is easier than it actually is and are ready to turn their backs on our team/coaches because they've yet to get to the promised land. Here's some other facts to chew on: 4 teams have yet to appear in a Superbowl. 12 teams have never won it. A few teams have won only once (Bears, Eagles, Jets) Other teams haven't won in close to 30 or more years (Cowboys, 49ers, Washington, Dolphins), so for many fans under 40, there's little if any memory of those victories. Add it up. Soak it in. We tend to measure achievement against Brady and the Patriots, or now KC. Those streaks are far more uncommon than common. It's not realistic to expect championships to fall in your lap. It takes consistent play and a little luck. Getting to a Superbowl is very difficult. Winning one is even tougher. The Bills have been competitive for several years under McD. They've had a chance to get there. I expect it will continue. Injuries and other external factors will always play into the results. If the disappointment is too great, you should find some other form of entertainment. For me, there's always another season and hope.
  23. You're 'stuck'? There's 31 other NFL teams and a whole world of other things to do. If it pains you so much, move on.
