  1. Bills 42 Fish 13 (only because the Bills' reserves will play soft in the 4th qtr).
  2. The Bills are in the driver seat as far as any race for the #1 seed. They already have (effectively) a 2-game lead on the Ravens, and if they can defeat the Chiefs in November, they could conceivably have what amounts to a 4-game lead in the race by matching W-L loss records with them until they faceoff. Apart from home field advantage, it would be really sweet to finally get that extra week of rest while the others beat each other up in the wildcard rounds. Having to only win 2 games (at home) rather than 3 is huuuuuge. The mission continues tomorrow with an early Friday-style fish fry.
  3. And I hope he wears a helmet and elbow pads if he takes his Schwinn out for a ride. 🙄
  4. Cool project. I love the vintage look of old War Memorial, but if it was my project, I'd look for something without the baseball diamond. Call me OCD, but I always hated the look when the Bills played the Dolphins, Raiders, and others, and they still had their baseball infields in the middle of the gridiron. The memory of days of War Memorial brings to mind such a different experience than what fans have today. It was rustic. It was intimate. It was simple. The scoreboard a basic array of lightbulbs. There were no replays on a Jumbotron. The sound of a live jazz or marching band along with the combined smells of popcorn, hot dogs, cigars, and the grass field made it feel like we were still in some post-war era movie. Sitting not more than 20 feet from the visitors bench is part of the seed that was planted they became my lifelong Bills fandom. The experience in the new stadium will be unrecognizable to what we had in the 60's. Better? On some level, for sure3. But there was still something very personal about that old stadium that I'm nostalgic about. Good luck on the man cave.
  5. I live in Atlanta, but had season tickets for a couple of years during the Super Bowl run. I went to every home opener for many years, going back to early 80s, up until 2008. When the economy went to hell around that time, the budget was tight (both my wife and myself were in job transition-mode), and haven't been to a game since. It used to be reasonably inexpensive for round-trip flights. Using AirTran Amex, i could buy a RT ticket for $119. With that card, we received a 4th RT flight after purchasing 3. So, I could effectively have 4 RT flights for under $350. That was before all the stupid nickel and diming for baggage and seat choices. I can't usually get a single non-stop flight for under $350 today. I still had my parents homes and cars available during those trips. Now, it costs a fortune for hotels and car rental. Was hoping to get up there this year, but probably won't make it to Orchard Park. Already have tickets for Monday nighter in Atlanta. I plan to make it to the new Highmark next year. I'd want to be one of the few who fit this sub-group of Bills fans (mostly boomers) who can say they bridged the Bills' 3 home stadiums, starting with War Memorial, then to Rich Stadium, and finally new Highmark. On October 13, I'll be able claim seeing the Bills in 3 different Atlanta Falcon home stadiums.
  6. I'm far from an expert on college talent, but my instincts told me that Josh Rosen would be a bust. He seemed arrogant and too self-centered to be a successful leader in the NFL. I didn't know too much about Allen other than what I read and some short video clips leading up to the 2018 draft. There were different opinions. He seemed like he had the sort of farm boy good work ethic that is needed. He was smart and had the raw talent. The big issues were not much big school competition and problems with his mechanics. It was a gamble. Fortunately, the Bills saw his potential and were more than lucky that he fell to the 7th pick. I still get a kick out of that video from 2018 in which the Bills-supporter draftniks attending the annual draft go apoplectic over the Allen pick when it wasn't 'their Josh'.
  7. Beautiful. well said. Yes, it does feel good (great) to have an elite signal-caller/field general.
  8. What some may forget is that Tre was not coming back soon following ACL and CB2 Levi Wallace was gone in FA. The Bills HAD to address the CB position with their first pick in the draft. I’m convinced they wanted McDuffie, but of course KC got there first. I don’t believe Bean was sold on Elam, but he was next on the board after an earlier run on CBs.
  9. The Jets - last regular season game at Highmark when they have the #1 seed sewn up and all the starters are on the bench for most of the game.
  10. Only a longtime Buffalo Bill fan would be able to see a cloud in the silver lining of a 2-0 start. The Bills defensive problems are probably more about personnel than coaching. The team has addressed it. With the maturation of the new D-line prospects and the return of the suspendees, we might see a more dominant defense. I'm not the least bit worried. The only stat that really matter falls under the win/loss columns. The Bills have a whole lot more W's than L's over the past several years.
  11. Week 17 of 2018 everything fell our way. I believe the date was April 26.
  12. And that codpiece…. more BS to distract from what’s really going on.
  13. Initially, I thought shoulder. But that thought was temporary, lasting only seconds when the slow-mo replayed showed the hit and then him being attended to on the bench. Rub a little dirt on it and get back in there boy.
  14. Oh ok. That justifies being a total jerk in public for the rest of his days.
  15. I don't usually feel animosity or hate towards public figures or others whom I only know through media, but I'd like to hit that obnoxious A hole Fireman Ed with a water hose from a hydrant and then run him over with the ladder truck. Nothing wrong with being an enthusiastic fan, but that guy gives off a vibe like he wants the whole stadium crowd to focus on him and his massive ego. Such a D-bag. The way he carries on, you'd think the Jets, (winners of a grand total of 3 division titles since the AFL-NFL merger, 55 seasons!), were some celebrated juggernaut with a trophy case full of Lombardis. F him.
  16. Oliver's Army
  17. Assumed it's not practical for short visit. My statement was a general counterpoint in a side note and the perception by some that "there's nothing to do in WNY". It's the sort of thing that used to be said in regard to Free Agent NFL players who might prefer the glamour and action in South Beach as opposed to the cloudy skies and slower pace of Buffalo. For families living in WNY, there's more options for entertainment and recreation in the region than there are in many cities, even if there aren't white sandy beaches and palm trees. I believe the Bills actively recruit the type of mature family-oriented men who are comfortable with the Buffalo lifestyle. A lot of these guys grew up on farms, experienced rural life and a small town lifestyle. I'm sure a good number of them have no desire for instant access to parties in La-La Land or South Beach.
  18. What sort of things do you enjoy doing? Dining, drinking, hiking, museums, dancing/nightlife, touristy stuff? This may seem obvious, but as you're coming to a Buffalo Bills message board, I'm assuming a Bills' game is already on the docket. Will you have a car? And yes, Niagara Falls is compulsory if it's your first time in the area. Don't miss it. The Canadian side offers more attractions and places to visit than the American side. (sadly, Niagara Falls, NY could've been a great tourist destination had it been developed by someone with vision, but instead it's surrounding neighborhoods are dumps). If you're coming in the fall, WNY trees, parks, rivers, and other natural areas provide beautiful landscapes for just walking and getting some fresh air. For inside museum stuff, Buffalo Albright Knox Art Gallery is world class. There's also the Buffalo science and history museums. Buffalo also has a very nice (and underrated) zoo. As far as good eats, there are an infinite number of great places to test the local fare for wings, beef on (kimmel)weck, pizza, Friday Haddock fish frys, etc. Some of the little hole-in-the wall mom & pop gin mills often have the best of these local favorites. But, there are so many great places for Bistro-style to fine dining. Don't waste your time with chain places like Applebee's when you're there. The food in WNY is outstanding. If you're unsure about where to go, ask the locals. You'll find most people of WNY are extremely friendly and helpful. Enjoy, happy birthday, and GO BILLS! Another thought...check to see what other entertainment is going on the week(end) that you visit. There may be some good music acts coming through town, maybe a touring play at Shea's Theater, or even an NHL game with the Buffalo Sabres if they're iplaying that week. One more piece of commentary: The Buffalo/WNY area has been branded as someplace where there's "nothing to do". I challenge that. I live in the Atlanta area and in my opinion there's a far greater number of things to do and see in Buffalo and within a short drive, especially if you include Toronto and the southern tier and finger lakes regions.
  19. It's crazy that these NFL stadiums are being replaced after 25 years. The Georgia Dome came and went from 1992-2016. The Cleveland stadium and now the Denver stadium, neither of which are that old, are in the process of being replaced. I was half kidding in an earlier thread about in the near future starting a feesability study and the planning for the next stadium that will replace the new Highmark stadium. Maybe that tongue-in-cheek thought wasn't so far-fetched. How is it that so many college stadiums are viable and still used for 50+ years?
  20. I never had the multi-focal. When it became obvious distance and reading both needed corrective lenses, I opted for mono-vision. i.e. one lens/eye handles distance and the other does close. Two completely different prescriptions for left and right. The brain makes the adjustment, so it’s like having near perfect vision. But as I said before, I’m now only in one contact until I need surgery on that one. btw, I’m terrible about changing lenses. I’ve only used the kind you can keep in for a few days and overnight, but they’re frequently in there for weeks. Oh well.
  21. Ironically, I’ve recently been working out the keyboard intro to Bloody Well Right. It has some tricky timing that has escaped me forever, but I finally decided a couple of weeks ago to finally tackle it and practice until I have it down. I started playing it when the record came out, but only got about as far as the first 8 bars before winging it (playing it wrong). So now with the composer watching from above, I need to get it bloody well right.
  22. I’ve only needed one, but the other one will certainly need it soon enough. Medicare covered 100%, but I elected to get the upgraded lens for an extra $2900. I can’t tolerate eyeglasses, so I’ve been wearing contacts for about 20 years. Now, only in left eye. What’s amazing is how bright everything is after getting surgery. It’s like somebody turned all the dimmer switches to full brightness. Agree with the recommendation.
  23. In the early days of the Falcons playing at the Georgia Dome, there was a vendor (Buffalo guy of course) who sold Sahlen's char-broiled hot dogs there. He also had a couple of stores at different times in which were sold Sahlen's, Loganberry, Weber's mustard, etc. Kind of a local Ted's. The last store that I know of was on Windy Hill Rd in Marietta. Good Buffalo food, but not very convenient hours unless you worked in the area. Basically only open during lunch hours on weekdays i believe. I think I went there one Saturday and discovered they didn't open weekends. BTW, in defense of some of the Highmark pricing for food/drinks, it's kind of offset by having some of the lowest ticket prices in the league.
  24. Fortunately, they play on the gridiron, and the Bills have been relatively successful in matchups with the birds. If the Ravens are superior 'on paper' by some measure, there's data not being accounted for. The Win-Loss record speaks for itself. When they play 'on paper' I'll GAF.
