Expectations for Josh Allen this year
JoeF replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hap, this is a great topic. I think Josh is going to be his most dangerous with a balanced attack. Most folks would interpret this as run/pass division which ranged from 2/3 pass and 1/3 run (Green Bay) last year to 47% pass and 53% run (Seattle). The league average was about 59% pass. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/passing-play-pct The Bills were 29th by the way with a 53.6 Pass/46.4 run ratio. I don't think the Run/Pass ratio is applicable to Josh. I think its a more complex ratio. Its: - Pure Run (play designed to hand off to a RB or a Jet Sweep) - RPO (Josh has the option - mostly for Red Zone or a down with less than 5 yards to go (could be second, third or fourth down) - Short Medium Pass Game - Routes all 15 yards or less and less than three-second release - Full Route Tree Pass game - includes deeper routes of 15 yards or more I think making a defense prepare for all 4 segments of this balanced offense and running all 4 types of plays from the same sets of formations is key to Josh's success. Josh proved last year that he can run all 4 types of plays but is probably weakest at Short Medium Pass Game and strongest with both his legs and arm in the Full Route Tree pass game and RPO. If Daboll can devise a scheme that mixes these four types of plays, Josh will average 250-300 total yards a game and the Bills running game will be top 5 in the league. If this works -- the Bills are likely a playoff team. I know its not stats per game or yards passing or completion percentage or TD passes..but I think this is the "balance" the Bills need to achieve. -
Tyree Jackson - The Next “Joe Webb” For The Bills?
JoeF replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mean replace the Joe Webb "Package"? ..Joe was the ultimate weapon..special teams, WR, Snow Game QB.... Can Tyree handle this? What a blessing that would be. -
Is this some sort of backhanded way of calling EJ an ass? You really didn't like him, did you? ? Others have mentioned the many things set EJ up for failure... Unwarranted first-round status via Nix and Whaley -- they talked themselves into it. Those conversations must have been gems. The first year injuries. Just as EJ was about to get some great consistent, game after game reps he would get injured\ I don't know that I can really define what Nate Hackett's offensive system was...all I know is that it was better suited for Kyle Orton than EJ Manuel. EJ could read one side of the field and could move...so what do you game plan--drop-back passing with fairly complex reads--brilliant..... Augie, despite my joke--your post sums up my feelings really well.

Tip of the cap and a big Thank You. I think his presence last year had a lot to do with the Josh Allen we saw post-injury.

Can he not hold a pen. Not surprising since he went to Ole Miss..? https://www.buffalobills.com/news/ed-oliver-plus-six-bills-draft-picks-sign-contracts

Was hoping this was the ex-Cubs (and 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee) reliever giving a motivational speech to the team before the start of Rookie Mini-Camp.

6'8" 330 lbs with the on-field mentality of a mean, nasty bouncer. If Kiko tries the dirty crap he attempted on Josh Allen the last game of the season, I think Ty would break Kiko in half. Morse and Long were the Bills intellectual signings...Spain, Ford, Waddle, Nsekhe and Feliciano are around to add some nasty to the line. If these guys mesh -- the Bills will be immeasurably more formidable on O...

Great interview and insights from Ed Reed.

The whole situation was a cluster*****. Rex and Rob; Whaley and Brandon..Anthony Lynn has proven to be a really fine head coach but there is no way he could have been retained because of his ties to a dysfunctional regime and likely retention of some of the staff because of loyalty. I am sure there are coaches on that staff who worked their asses off only to see crappy leadership and division at the top of the football organization. I know it's tough to swallow, but I credit Terry and Kim for stopping the madness after 2 years and eating Rex's salary. They could have easily stayed the course and endured a really crappy 2017 under Rex -- instead, it was a playoff year.... -

During the 1996 Paralympic Summer Games, I was working for the Games staff. Jack and Bob Dole came to the games for a day while they were campaigning. I got to escort them around the swimming and track and field venues. Jack had met my dad when my dad was an Alderman in NT probably 30 years earlier. I introduced myself and Jack says-Joe are you from WNY? I said yes sir. He says, Are you from NT? Yes, sir. Are you Tony's boy...yes sir...I was amazed he remembered. We called my dad right then and they caught up for a few minutes. A super classy man...taken too soon.

John Warrow’s High Praise For Beane & McDermott Regime
JoeF replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wawrow: After two decades, things appear different and there is a reason for hope. ScottLaw: After two decades, I have presented evidence and opinion that things are not that different and I want to be vindicated when the inevitable failure happens. Instead of being reduced to name calling and questioning a reporters objectivity in what is at least partly an opinion piece, just stick to the damn arguments. It's simple. It's not degrading and its something we can look back on after the results are in and say John had some legitimate observations or ScottLaw was correct -- it was the Same Old *****. Not that hard unless you really want to take Internet banter personally...which is really dumb... -
Lawson's 5th yr option ($9.451M) declined & Ziggy update
JoeF replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Average of 3rd to 25th Salaries at DE is $13.073Million.... Could this mean they have a 2 or 3 year deal in place with Ansah and will extend Jerry Hughes for a couple of seasons sometime soon?
