  1. please fix the spelling in the thread title
  2. Gates BBQ has always been my favorite - but you also can't go wrong with Arthur Bryants, Smokehouse, Jack Stack, etc etc. Ask locals if you can, lots of hole-in-the-wall places you won't find otherwise (similar to pizza and wings in WNY). "The Plaza" is kind of a ritzy part of town but worth a visit. I enjoyed both the Jazz Museum and the Negro Baseball League Hall of Fame which are adjacent to each other in the historic 18th and Vine district. I haven't been to Union Station since they remodeled and built a science museum there, but it looks like there is some fun stuff to do there now. Have a good time, hope it isn't too hot when you're there.
  3. Awesome, than you so much PRBills! That is exactly the place I was thinking of. The building (house actually now that I look at it!) still exists per google earth, but it's not clear if it's still open as a store. Tried calling the phone number listed on the FB link but got a 'no longer in service' message: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zoundz-2001/209777372365784 Also found this web site with info that it was open as recently as 2014: https://www.jigidi.com/jigsaw-puzzle/AE36T6V6/Zoundz-2001 If anyone here happens to go by, please let me know - I would definitely make a trip back there on my next visit back to WNY
  4. No idea. I remember there weren't any other retail establishments nearby. It was in a bad area of town, mostly industrial. It was actually one of the last places you would think you would find a record shop. I'm starting to think even the landmark status didn't even save this place lol. The outside of it looked like it was a homeless shelter, so it probably didn't survive, but the landmark status I remember reading about in the paper (probably courier express back then) gave me hope it might still be there.
  5. Bumping this once, to see if anyone can tell me the name of that Niagara Falls record store. Been racking my brain all weekend...
  6. This totally reminded me of making trips to "Home of the Hits" to stock up on vinyl back in the day. Wondering now if someone can tell me the name of an old record shop in Niagara Falls, NY - it was in a large, dilapidated building in the industrial part of town when I visited sometime back around 1990 - literally rain water was leaking on to their merchandise. But if I recall correctly, they had achieved landmark status despite the local residents objections and it couldn't be torn down. I remember the outside of the building being covered with haphazardly nailed colorful wooden boards. But I can't remember the name of this place to save my life - maybe someone can help me out and tell me if it's still standing.
  7. thread title needs a name spelling fix nashville d was amazing this year, he deserves a shot at the big chair and no better place than back in Buffalo. Wow-ee is back!
  8. Tickets went on sale this morning. I found the web site to be virtually useless as it offered the same extreme-stage-right or left tickets over and over. We only got the tickets we wanted when one of us called the box office and waited on hold about 40 minutes, but at least they allowed us to choose our section. Good luck, hope to see lots of Bills fans there - and we'll be at Hammers the following morning bright and early.
  9. listening to fillmore east for the umpteenth time, cant think of any live usa album that can even come close
  10. It's a total and complete guilty pleasure I grant you, but I enjoy Masterchef Australia. Charismatic judges, amazing complex challenges and world renowned guest chefs. It's even on 5 days a week, but I've only been able to find it on euro streaming sites. I also enjoy the judges and food critics on UK Masterchef; the Chef's Table challenge just before the finale is often the biggest gathering of Michelin starred chefs in the world for that year. Can't stand Chef Ramsay and his stupid questions to the contestants like 'who do you most want to take out of the competition' - won't watch him ever again.
  11. I'm still worried about those shootouts. They could certainly be the difference between playoffs and a lottery pick in '18
  12. have my own woodstock
  13. if you don't 'get' sgt. pepper you'll never get the beatles, it's worth a complete listen through but in my opinion, they are great because they broke the mold.. bands as we know them basically didn't exist before the beatles came along I don't expect younger generations to start grooving out to love me do, but they should respect that the beatles changed the entire music landscape, and in many respects the world in the process
  14. I'm not sure if he's an expert or not but 'the crazy russian hacker' Taras Kul has some educational beekeeping videos that I like to watch: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPw1VbYiNnHkwfE697Yqach94hRbbKFsM
  15. Put an RyG show at Red Rocks on your bucket list. Sadly, it doesn't look like it will be this year though.
  16. in 77, there was a storm that dumped a bunch of snow on us, but the lake to the west was frozen at the time so it collected on the lake too then the crazy winds started and it blew all the snow off the lake onto buffalo. so although the snow totals weren't biblically high for a blizzard, the drifts were nothing short of amazing. there are some insane pictures of the wall of blowing snow heading towards the city out there. I was young but I remember the first floor of our split level house was dark for days, and I remember our mom worrying about us getting near the telephone wires as we played in the snow on our neighbor's second story roof.
  17. If you have 5.1 sound, you can turn off the center channel which mutes the announcers
  18. All In The Family Breaking Bad Sopranos Seinfeld Fawlty Towers
  19. I think it was called something like "Let's Go To The Races". I thought it was through Bells, but maybe they both did it.
  20. I would have been willing to give Lynn a shot at HC next year, but after this play call I don't want him Would not have thought one play would make that big of a difference, but this showed amazingly spectacular incompetence.
  21. I'm a successful network engineer and a marijuana user. I don't smoke at or before work, just like I wouldn't drink at or before work. But after work and weekends is my time - neither the government (nor anyone else) has any business in it. The only factor I have ever had to worry about was the legality, and I'm happy (and proud) to say that in my state it is now legal. I hope other states follow suit so others like me who want to enjoy marijuana privately can do so without fear of reprisal. This will be my one and only post on this topic.
  22. re: #2, it's been so nice just to see the play calls getting in on time! last week vs. the cards the bills offense had a big play that could have easily been challenged/overruled but the bills got the snap off before they had a chance to get a good look at it on replay and throw the red flag. good things happen when you get the play call in on time!
