It was a good first game for a rookie receiver. He doesn't look like a game breaker type, but he's smooth, big and seems to have sure hands. Looks like he has the ability to develop into a really nice complementary piece/#2 type of guy.

I'm not too concerned, because this is a game I have us losing to a divisional opponent; even in scenarios where we make the playoffs/win division. I expect a barn burner.

The chatter around the Worthy trade isn't rational
TheBrownBear replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Their guy has 58 career total yards and ours hasn't played a snap. Pretty clear that we lost that trade. 🙄 -
Look at it this way...it's the difference between a dropped "interception" versus an actual interception. We are talking about turnovers, not potential turnovers.

I don't really care about the MVP thing, but this is what really frustrates me about the criticism of Josh. Outside of the opener against the Jets last year (where Josh really was putrid), how many games has Allen lost for us in the clutch over the past three years? Have there been any outside of that game? Yet I frequently hear the morons on sports radio or ESPN reference Allen's turnovers giving away important games or that he fails to come through in the clutch and postseason. It's clear that they are just riding along on some prepackaged narrative about Allen and don't ever bother to watch him. Two weeks ago I heard a national radio guy say that Jared Goff was better than Allen, and that he prefers him to Josh, because Goff doesn't make the backbreaking turnover that costs his team big games. 🤡

Brandt picking Josh for MVP??? What's next??? Wait wait don't tell me....Chris Berman picking the Bills and 49ers for the Super Bowl.

49ers first round draft pick Ricky Pearsall shot in San Francisco
TheBrownBear replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yikes. Here's to a speedy recovery for Pearsall. What a terrible thing to have happen to the young man. And now I'm sweating, since I'll be taking my wife and kids up there on Friday to see the symphony and sightsee. Kids have never been and I haven't seen the city since 2016. Of course, were staying in Union Square. -
It was (cheesy and saccharine), but I liked that Joe didn't take the bait. Can sense the kid knows he didn't really accomplish anything yet, and that he's more just focused and eager to get back to work. Lunch pail kinda dude. Yeah, he's from Lancaster and a longshot type, but let's not forget that all of these guys have busted their asses and are working to achieve their dreams.

I think we drop off this year, especially given the schedule. I see 8-10 wins and no playoffs. 🙁
-
I think this is at least half the story - certainly since 2021.
-
Agreed. As soon as I saw the tape I absolutely hated the pick. The guy was clearly a stiff. I have no clue what Beane was thinking with that selection. One of the worst of his tenure.

Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)
TheBrownBear replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I love Bass. Feel for the guy. He's been a great contributor over the years....BUT....this is a results oriented business, I'd be actively looking for his replacement if I were McDermott. -
Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)
TheBrownBear replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
You play the probabilities. Bass is a career 76% kicker from 40+ yards (includes 50+, where he's around 63%). The odds of picking up 4th and 7 are around 43%. Obviously, the analysis doesn't end there. You have to consider expected points, game clock/management, how your offense is playing in the moment and what your opponent has on the other side. Turns out that while having Bass kick was the probabilistically "correct" call, it was a close one according to the chart. Here's a good article discussing these issues: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-fourth-down-conversion-chart-rate-by-distance/vofkeub6xwms6imajxqkfipp -
Baylon Spector fits the mold as well. He looked good in limited time last year.
-
Pretty much, at least as far as us fans go. But the coaches have seen a lot of these guys working with Josh during camp and the reports were mostly positive (before the injuries). I guess I'm just going to look at things through rose colored glasses until reality hits (whatever that may turn out to be) during weeks 1 and 2.

If you could get a day 2 pick for Cook would you pull the trigger…
TheBrownBear replied to julian's topic in The Stadium Wall
Absolutely. Nice player, but he's not transcendent. If you can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for a low value position player with drops and ball security issues, you jump at the offer. -
I feel this way too, but then I look at the schedule, and I take a hard look at our roster and I'm just 🤷
-
I can't image that's it. Hell, the Washington Post just ran a story today agreeing with that common sense take.
-
Well, this sucks and seems like devastating news, but it does quietly make our WR room better by comparison.
