The problem is the NFL Draft will then become like the NBA draft...Meaning...No One cares. NFL is making a great amount of money by having the NFL Draft on TV. I like the idea of giving a hometown discount on the Salary Cap for a player who was drafted by the team and has gone on to do something *excellent*. It can always be defined by numbers (W/Ls, TDs, INTs, Tackles etc).

Worst Player Offseason Power Rankings
ganesh replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is both downside and upside to Naasib's tenure with the Giants. On the upside, he will sit on the bench and learn and may be traded to a QB needy team in a couple of years. (I believe 4th Rds only get a 3year deal). The downside is that while EJ, Barkley and Geno have a very good shot of starting and proving themselves in the NFL rightaway, Naasib has that door shut firmly in front of him unless there is a devastating injury to a player who has not missed any game in his career. -
Marcel/Kyle rated #2 DT tandem in the league

This seems an insane statement. Why would a team want to stop the run by its LBs and not by your two most strongest defensive men. I thought people always stopped the run by DTs occupying the space and the LBs simply came in and finished the tackles. -
All this good when you have success and that starts with the QB. Without Ben Rothelisberger, that team was an average team with FitzCrappy type QBs. Once they had the Franchise QB then their mindset changed. Let us hope E.J. Manuel does to the Bills what Ben was able to do for the Steelers.

I simply cannot believe Russ would be willing to lose his credibility and make a fool of himself by knowing that Nix was going to step down and still went ahead and quoted that Nix will be our GM for a long time.
-
Why not? Nobody on this team should assume anything or take it for granted. If the coach feels that the other 3 WRs give a better chance for completion than Stevie being there, then the coach will put those 3 guys on the field and it is not a big deal. The NFL is all about match ups.

I would have rather asked: 1. When are you signing your rookie contract 2. Have you started House hunting in Buffalo 3. Will you own an apartment in Toronto 4. Will your Mom or GF move with you to Buffalo 5. What are five things you know about Buffalo Today 6. How is the night life in Buffalo compared to Tallahaassee

When Was Last Time Players REALLY Trusted The System
ganesh replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1. I think the players really believed in Perry Fewell as the DC. They played well in his scheme. Unfortunately, our offense could not get going during those Dick Jauron years... Buddy should have made Fewell the HC and brought in Chan Gailey as the OC. The Team would have been much better. -
That is Russ's take. May be Buddy had other ideas and did not share it with his boss at that point of time. I doubt many folks let their boss know months ahead that they will be quitting their job. Kelly's contract with the Eagles is 32.5 M /5 Years = $6.5M a year. I assume Marrone is making at least 3-4M a year......which is not several times lower than what Kelly is earning......Philadelphia is not the same market as Buffalo.

+1. I love CJ and his commitment to this team. I just hope this guys goes on to having a phenomenal year this season.
-
Do you want to have him get into his doghouse?
-
Sure., I understand that..However, what coach is saying is that everyone has a chance to unseat the incumbent and they should be working towards that. This is the biggest difference between the Bills and winning teams like the Steelers. Sitting in Pittsburgh, I watched every year their backups seamlessly filling in for the starters when they went down with injury (except on the OL). They had their backups prepared mentally to be starters. I am assuming this is what the Doug and Doug show is building back there in Orchard Park.

The Bills are doing their due diligence including interviewing a minority candidate....oops...sorry i forgot that they already have that in house and will satisfy the Rooney rule!

Miami writer: Stevie Johnson's a No. 2
ganesh replied to GOBILLS78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Right now SJ is not even at Mould's level let alone Reed or Lofton. Just because he had 1000 yard receiving in three consecutive seasons means nothing. SJ has had very poor games in between. At this point, if someone does says SJ is our #2, I have no problems with it. Until SJ can be consistent, he will have to prove to be a #1. -
I Like Doug, but did he pay attention during English class?

Like " I don't know why it happened. We will have to see the tapes and figure it out. I don't have any answers for it yet". And it was like a broken record week in, week out. -
+1. Russ is Cheap!!!

Official OTA/Minicamp Thread (May/June)

I thought Perry Fewell did a good job with the available talent. On the other hand, Jerry Gray was pathetic. -
You mean the guy who stuck up a pencil over his ears :-) It seemed that some of the folks around here felt that was not in good taste for the GM-in-waiting!
-
According to coach Marronne, there is battle for starting position at every Position, not just the ones you have listed above.
-
Again you are missing the point. There was no restrictions from within OBD as to who he could hire as a HC. All your "Ifs" are betting on the future and we have no control over that. The only thing we can look at as a body of work is his last 3 years as a GM and that has been mediocre. I hope for the Bills sake, this 2013 draft is their biggest hit draft that turns them around.

Tight End issue resolved??? Brandon Kaufman....

And I hate all those failed experiments of the Jauron and Gailey era of converting players out of position. If you are a WR, then you are a WR. -
2013 R....O....Y.....
ganesh replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is very hard for rookie WRs to put up big numbers and also consistent statistics to be ROY. And don't forget RGIII won the starting job in training camp. One thing to note about these three phenomenal rookie seasons is that all three of them had a great Running Game to take the pressure of the QB himself. It allowed for excellent execution of Read Option or the Play Action. Gore, Morris and Lynch were the best buddies for the rookie QBs. It would be up to CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson to provide the same level of comfort for EJ to operate. -
And possibly take care of Wood's contract. That would mean we would need to deal only with Spiller next season.
