+1. And if EJ can be as good as Eli Manning, we could possibly build a very good team.

Would Brady have been as good...
ganesh replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But that is true for everyone. You need to be lucky to go to the right system to thrive and win the big game. Eli and Big Ben went to two of the best run organizations in the NFL and with the addition of their talent, those teams became instant superbowl contenders. Do you think Troy Aikman wins those 3 superbowls without that supporting cast and effective coaching. You need an excellent QB to push the rest of the team to be better. Without that leader, all these great players don't mean a squat when it comes to winning championships. The same goes for Tom Brady. -
Offensive starters possible - post draft

As per Doug, all starting spots are up for grabs and not just guard. There will be competition at every spot. -
EJ Manuel's first few hours as a Buffalo Bill

+1. I thought the same too. And Hackett looks so tiny Awesome media clip. I think this guy is special. So many traits that you don't see in a single person. Now can he QB the floundering Buffalo Bills to a championship? I am feeling good about the chances ! -
What are you're expectations for this season?
ganesh replied to Bills Fan888's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The colts were supposed to win 3-4 games last season as they broke in a rookie QB and a whole bunch of unheralded players...All the colts did was win 11 games and into the playoffs. If you ask anyone or everyone the difference between the Bills team and the Colts team and it was simply QB (and very good coaching). Of course this is a new year and if the ball bounces our way a couple of times like it did for the colts last season, we definitely can make the playoffs. -
Do you think *winded* will be in Doug's vocabulary?

Bills Fans React To Manuel Pick (LAMP)

I don't think so. Doug has been quoted *multiple* times that everyone has to earn their position on this team. Why would he want to hand it out to the rookie. -
Do you want him to repeat it *multiple* times

Actually I disagree...I think the only coach who comes close to (similarity) to Doug is Mularkey... Greg Williams was arrogant from day one and never could put the team together. Mularkey on the other hand is the only HC with a winning season in the whole decade. Mularkey got a lot out of his players with his no-nonsense yet quiet approach. Dick Jauron was simply a bad HC with bad coordinators....He had no chance to succeed and in spite of that made three straight 7-9 seasons. It is hard to win in the NFL...and old Dickie won 21 games... Doug is intense but at the same time has not come out as arrogant even once in the past three months since he has been hired, I really think Doug gives us the best chance to win since Mike Mularkey. -
And probably better coaching.

Buddy on the John Murphy show

These players have had it soft with the previous regimes. I hope Pettine is able to light a fire under their belly and make these guys give their 110% on the field. -
I think everyone part of the LB were horrible: Barnett, Moats, Sheppard all were caught playing out of position....Hopefully Nigel will be different.

Awesome....EJ Fever in Rochester in dog days of August! -
Nah. That is too boring for them and it does not increase there ratings. Who cares what happened 3-years ago. That is eternity in the NFL. That would actually be pretty good for the class, if those 7 QBs manage to survive 5-years in this league.

+1. He is the heart and soul of this offense. I hope Hackett really understands the importance of this kids talent to this team.

2013 Bills Defensive personnel compared to 2009 Jets
ganesh replied to KeisterHollow's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said. The key is: Can that front-3 stop the damn run. Until we can figure that out, we are long ways from the playoffs. -
All said and done, it is going to be a tough first half of the season before this offense can gel...We have so many new starters on Offense: 1. Left Guard - No one appears to have a handle to this job 2. QB - Not sure if it is going to be Kolb or EJ 3. WR - So many new WRs in the system and the system itself is new to SJ too. 4. TE - One TE is probably starting on PUP list and the 2nd one is a known blocker. The only sure thing is the RB where Spiller will be the starter. I simply don't think the Bills will be able to put up a consistent offense with so many changes to that side of the team. They better pick there defense to stop the Run.

There is also a few great lessons from Marrone to Naasib from this draft. That is never expect something to happen only to be disappointed later. Marrone also showed where your loyalty and commitment should be to the young kid. Hopefully, Ryan learns the positives out of this draft and understanding what his HC has to do (Make the best possible decision for his employee, the Buffalo Bills) the right thing. I am really surprised that Smith, Naasib and Barkley have shown some level of immaturity in their way of handling the outcome of this draft. Smith pouted before going to the Jets, Barkley twittered that all the 31 teams that bypassed him will regret and then there is the Naasib being "disappointed" by Marrone's decision. Guys: You are entering the NFL and you should first prove yourself in this league before making 'threats' ! It clearly show the lack of maturity of this QB class. Hopefully, EJ is a different beast.

Brad Smith Speculation
ganesh replied to VIVA BUFFALO CABRONES!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was probably a smokescreen call before the draft -
Because this front office has in general bungled their drafts in the past decade! I think 31 teams can be more right than just the Bills thought process.
-
There were five OL drafted in the 1st 10 picks of the draft....followed by more of them in the later part of the round and then in the 2nd round too. That is not a pundit's opinion but teams showing where the strength of this draft was.

Rd 1, Pick #16: QB EJ Manuel - Florida St.
ganesh replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we always had NFL Caliber players....however our coaching staff was from the JV league. -
plus there are 31 other teams picking in the draft too. Even if the Bills were interested in getting some of those Syracuse players, may be other teams picked them ahead of the Bills. Or they see that there are two starting WR positions open on this team and it is a great opportunity for them to earn one of that spot.

Geno may be the starting QB on opening day for the NY Jets. That would definitely put pressure on Geno to perform with very little in the cupboard and a lame duck head coach. Geno will be under the big lights of NY and the expectations will be a lot higher. EJ has a 3-year window to get his talent translated in the NFL. EJ will be playing for one of the low-key media market and the worst attacks will come from Jerry Sullivan.

To be fair to FearTheLosing, all he is saying is that the Bills have the Penchant for doing the opposite of the strength of the draft. Last year in a QB rich draft, they did not draft a QB and this year in a OL rich draft, they have completely ignored the line. When many of the teams draft to the strength of the draft, why would the Bills try to do the opposite. Again these are not my views: I do like the EJ drafting and I am mystified that they ignored the OL in spite of losing a starter.
