I am excited to see what Pettine can do. However, I don't want to drink this kool aid so fast. Pettine while was the DC did not even call the plays...That was left to Rex Ryan. There is enough talent on this team, but the coaching staff has not been able to bring them together...I am still concerned about that front four that has been so leaky against the run. I hope that is the foremost issue in Pettine's mind. This team will go as far as the run-stopping goes.
This *developmental* stuff is way overrated. If EJ plays well this summer in training camp, he simply wins the starting gig. In today's NFL, the team will put a rookie QB in, if he is capable of winning games. EJ comes with a 28-6 collegiate record. I don't really understand the *developmental* aspect.
If you like a player and don't want to lose him, you simply pick him at the spot given to you. The Bills risked quite a few times in the last decade and have paid the penalty for that.
A resounding +1
Nix and the Scouts run the draft. I am sure Marronne gets his input, but would not be pushing for a specific player. That would be more of Belichek style, not Doug's (Plus Belichek is the defacto GM).
Why is it all on CJ Spiller. First, Marronne has to fix that leaky defense before talking about playoffs or super bowl. If this team can get to a middle-of-the-pack defense, then we have a good shot.
Kolb would have to beat out Manuel and Jackson for the starting gig. Doug said so much so: All his players will be fighting for a starting gig...what a refreshing change in attitude as compare to the previous staff, which was hell bent on not giving an opportunity to the backups.
I believe most of the agents (at least for the 1st rounders) are negotiating a guaranteed deals, meaning all the 4 or 5 years of salaries are guaranteed for the player irrespective if they are or not there on the team.

We will know today if the Jags, Raiders, Eagles, Cardinals and Jets pick a QB at the top of the Rd 2 or pass on all of them (Smith, Barkley, Naasib, Wilson)
Awesome. You should be working in the PR Department of one of the NFL agents or the teams......That is pretty smooth talking.....and will make the rounds around the networks!!!
Why didn't Goddell protect Smith the same way he did with Brady Quinn a few years ago by removing him from the Cameras?
The Eagles or Jaguars would have taken him at the top of the 2nd round. Who knows. I am glad the Bills got the first crack at the line of QBs and picked the one that was at the top of their draft board.
