  1. I’ve said I get the call but probably not to the standard to overturn it. I also stand by that going off what a guy that was uninvolved said to get the coach off his back isn’t all that insightful. It’s not his call, he likely didn’t have a good view, and there’s little reason for him to hash out the reasoning on the sideline after the fact. “I don’t know” is an easy “we’re moving on” answer. Holding this up as a clear indictment of the situation is not all that convincing.
  2. The steelers call was not sketchy. It was very much by the book. A few of those were questionable, and a few im not familiar with. Lumping the Steelers call into this is a disservice to the discussion though. If he’s away from the play and not the review official — his eyes were how far away? And had what angle at the feet? And were responsible for how many other calls on the play? this clip adds drama but limited substance
  3. To be fair, if they weren’t in the replay booth or on the phone with ny why would he have a solid answer to give there?
  4. But so is the op kinda- nttawwt
  5. Vet minimum gets subsidized in the cap (napkin notes but pay a million but only count 600k, to keep the vet minimum from phasing guys out of the league)
  6. I don’t think I could handle the Jax game
  7. Its a fine that would be peanuts to him. If he thinks it’s a huge deal and he could be impactful I’d hope the money wouldn’t change his mind.
  8. Where I think we need to do better to be impactful is to avoid harping in calls that were right (like Pittsburgh) as it dilutes the argument immensely If he feels strongly- draw a fine. Why not?
  9. Yea, heaven forbid a guy prefers a situation that maximizes his odds of success at the toughest position for even talented guys to succeed at. Should prefer the longest odds possible if hes a real competitor that said- the browns can play the “who knows” game til he declares but they can’t care whether he likes them on draft day. If he’s #1on their board you take him
  10. Bingo. which clearly ends up meaning that sooner rather than later you are going to burn through the talent in the pool and be stuck with any joe. Acting like it’s impossible to be any worse is dramatic and attention seeking. That’s not to say it’s perfect but it’s not near as bad as some portray
  11. How big of a call does it have to be in your system? also, my point still stands. What if generally we already have the right guys and the quality goes down?
  12. Well I’ll I didn’t see it live and only caught a little of the explanation when i I watched it initially I thought that his foot came up and then went back down based on that justification. I’d assume that’s what the ref saw too but I’m not promising that’s the same process they used. i probably wouldn’t have overturned it but based on the replay I thought that it most likely came up
  13. What happens if you find you’ve fired the guys that are legitimately the best options and are replacing them with lesser skilled referees?
  14. And as I said, I think it’s be pretty easy to find about a half dozen things wrong with his body that haven’t been reported and could be “new issues” if push ever came to shove on this
  15. Teams IR guys for minor stuff down the stretch all the time. They aren’t forcing a team to release a HOF qb over it.
  16. I bet he has a half dozen injuries that could qualify him as out for a week or two.
  17. Starting a thread for every questionable call Will certainly make watching more enjoyable
  18. Still frame seems obvious but what’s the jerky movement his foot makes when it hits out of bounds? I’m guessing that’s what made the call (agree or disagree - I’m just speculating on the process)
  19. I don’t doubt that in part it’s the idea of Jordan rules where the stars get benefit of the doubt. But its likewise in part this psychological issue: name the 5 worst calls against the bills. now name the 5 worst that we benefited from. You can ask the same of any teams fans. You’ll get a list of 38 times they were screwed and struggle to get any times they got a break.
  20. And where we diverge is that I don’t think the catch rules are THAT over complicated. I don’t think they are perfect but all of them will have those edge calls. You’ll never nail a paragraph or 6 bullet points that govern all the ways a player and ball can come together. Ironically the same fans screaming that the refs need more leeway to call a catch are often the ones that also think the refs are fixing games. That you either need — two feet and a football move OR two feet and control through your fall — isn’t all that complex or complicated of a rule.
  21. To be fair, a large portion of those outrageous calls are actually following the rules the issue is everyone is so fast to be infuriated by the worst call they’ve ever seen and neglect that a portion of that is their own mistake and a good portion is that refs are human — what’s left over for conspiracy after all that isn’t much.
  22. To be fair it also corresponds to the explosion of 24 hour coverage, huge message boards, adding more (and hd) cameras, and an explosion in the number of fans. if you logged of this site, would your perception of fans complaining change drastically too? I know mine would if I just talked to a handful of locals in person occasionally as opposed to all the coverage I seek out
  23. Don’t think that’s true— Sunday night football vs the browns-bengals at 1pm being shown only regional get different coverage. The nfl mandates a minimum standard but premium games get more cameras, better operators etc.... im not sure it upsets me but there have been times I’ve thought “this one might play out different if the networks thought the ratings were going to be better” when they have gone to replay
  24. No thread on whether he will break 118 passing yards?!?
  25. Bingo - I’m passing on the vote. Will and should are very different
