  1. Or we only have 2 solidly making the roster and letting guys fight it out is good business on the 90 man. Carrying 5 for 3 spots is pretty on ratio for what a 90 should look like
  2. He also threw in comments about coaches egos being too big, and not hiring the best guys.... it wasnt a great look. And may have been an insight not just a media spin. It’s largely his own words being discussed
  3. I believe, if I’m not mistaken, that’s both an old update and also simply posted by a well meaning friend. I wouldn’t hang on every word of it.
  4. Its one of the less shocking things I’ve seen on here lately, even with the Derek Anderson retirement
  5. I will never forget jerel worthy.
  6. Which makes sense. His rookie year was injury recovery and in a bad situation. If you write off that year he’s just a young guy coming into his own in a new system and healthy. I think that option decision makes people feel like he’s been here and in it longer than he really has.
  7. He’s essentially paid as a rotational/backup DE here. He will be likewise in 2020, somewhere.
  8. There tend to be a few ledges in the structures where you see pockets of guys that negotiate a bit more. Where offset language comes off the table seems to be another where it sometimes stretches a few extra days. As a 3rd rounder there’s a chance this is your only pay day, and couldn’t fault anyone for wanting to get it right
  9. It can be a tough spot as a middle manager for a bad leader. Especially if he brought you in to be a culture bearer for his system and you don’t actually believe in it. On your note- it wasn’t outside the box to hire him. But how many assistant position coaches come out dogging leadership for not knowing the game and not listening to them because they are the GOAT? It loops into the long running debate of whether a guy like Peyton Manning would be a good coach. Knowing the game is different than knowing how to teach, being a second or third tier contributor to a meeting room instead of a guy that’s followed blindly, etc....
  10. Ultimately, I think it comes down to the question of was he able to humble himself enough to be the low man on the coaching totem pole instead of the top dog of the players. The interview certainly didnt didn’t prove he undermined the coaches, but it sure did make me wonder if he might’ve at times. It’s a tough spot, but for all his knowledge if he didn’t know how to effectively manage his new position he might not have been a good choice. You have to think Rex brought him in to be a fierce advocate of the coaches that players would respect. Are you confident he filled that position? After reading this, I’m not sure.
  11. The psychology of it all really is fascinating at times. A solid third to half of the fanbase lives with “hope rewarded” amounting to 2 wild card games - the music city debacle and a 10-3 mess. And the remainder know success as being the butt of jokes for being the team that couldn’t win the big game. Our pinnacle has a major element of rationalizing losses for greatness (which yea it was a great team). When you step back from being a bills fan and just look at the idea of being a fan of a franchise with this history...it’s really something.
  12. Quite a few layers to unpack in there. Comp picks aren’t about making bad teams good as much as creating consistency. It encourages teams to let players play out contracts instead of cutting them. It helps prevent great teams from bottoming out when they get pillaged. It does help prop up less desirable markets too. And with mixed results, having the cutoff date keeps vets on the fringe in the league (though maybe makes them wait longer than liked to be signed) I think that us watching the pats work the system while we have not done well just makes it feel less fair. We are all better for having your deep thoughts and participation in our conversation, Ferg. Keep it up.
  13. I don’t dig the straight to moulds jumps to excuse every underperforming WR but i do think it’s important that his salary is $1m and we save peanuts cutting him. As we have seen even in this thread- $1m for a WR3-4 is still a relative bargain. Unless he’s legit beat out by both a udfa AND a guy in a futures contract from the CFL, there’s not any motivating factor to move him unless he’s some sort of trouble behind the scenes we don’t know about. Him only being a 4 would be a scouting disappointment but the beauty of picking a WR there is that even a disappointment is a great value in the cap as long as not a complete disaster
  14. Theres long been an element in the back of my head that part of the enthusiasm for our current regime is the polar opposite nature and how we all tend to overvalue what the last guy was bad at. When your qb is Trent Edwards you are a little quicker to get amped up for a gunslinging Fitz, and excuse obvious issues. Short receivers? Go get James hardy, ignoring all red flags. We’ve seen a lot of “go get what the last guy did bad” confused with “go get someone good” When you have a lazy coach that is at odds with their GM do we get too easily on board for streamlined branding of a “process” and ignore the struggles assembling an offense, the slow nature of the build and what were largely self inflicted cap issues last year? By “we” I include myself and importantly the fan signing the paychecks in Pegula. It’ll be an interesting dynamic to keep an eye on. Especially if Allen looks good but we remain uneven with the offensive talent. Hopefully they’ve nailed it and are both unlike Rex AND good.
  15. Not unfair. The Ryan here really bothered me but I tried to get on board with him being a defensive genius and us having a wealth of available pieces. Seems he was far short of the commitment that’s required to maintain being a creative/innovative guy in that job/this league.
  16. On a surface level we see an assistant position coach in his first year coaching not respecting the guys that brought him in and a pair of highly emotional players siding with him and one of them noting their many meetings on the side. In 2016 being a mess of disorganization and distrust- do you think a young HOF player turned coach may have at times undermined those above him thinking he deserved to be more of a chief and less of an Indian? Im in no way absolving Rex or Rob but maybe the revelation here is a new layer of dysfunction not just confirmation of what we knew previously.
  17. The easy response is pile on Rex and rob. And they deserve it. but I wonder if Ed reed was a little bit of a problem too.
  18. Which would be fine stats for shady on a cheap deal as a backup. And Watson would be a cheap deal. All about context. hes reliable, good hands, but certainly not at his peak currently
  19. I’ll agree he’s far past his prime. Still a productive guy though. Hard worker, locker room leader and gets the job done. Bound to hit a wall sooner than later but would have no problem with him as the 3rd.it gets tossed around a lot but he’s actually the type that’s great to have around a couple young guys if we have 2 rookies on the roster/PS
  20. Agreed he’s the starter but suspect that CB/JB/Zay/foster see relatively even snap counts unless someone really plays outside of expectation (positive or negative). Thats essentially guaranteeing a spot this year. It’s without question.
  21. 3 of his last 4 with Flacco weren’t much to write home about either. Itll be be interesting to see. Beane brought in two guys that need to both be at or above their career best and he doesn’t have a great track record at receiver. On the bright side it should be a functional group, even if a little underwhelming
  22. Two things- I suppose a question and a point 1) are the savings noted the specific June 1 distinction savings? 2) now that you can designate a guy a June 1, the actual day is no longer particularly important
  23. You obviously have 4 arms in camp and it’s good to have a kid on the squad and a vet at home on speed dial... but it’s not super urgent
  24. Did anyone have Derek Anderson in the poll?
  25. That’s presumptuous
