ultimately, it’s not like they went all in ala the Manning colts with tiny penetrating guys. They have big boys here, which will help with a little stoutness... and invested inside previously but it’s a pass and stop the pass league first. And it’s who we are building to be. -

if we score a quick touchdown and strip sack tannehill, he might not get that heavy diet of carries of course being the obvious counter point being made. We won’t win 10 out of 10 but I’d take our odds there without hesitation we’ve also not neglected DT or linebacker either. Our big free agent splash and two highest picks on defense are DT, DT, MLB -

makes sense. It would be surprising not to see him kick inside on 3rd and long sometimes unless something goes wrong -

im not saying ignore the run completely but we are building a team to score and create turnovers - not to ground and pound on either side. you can’t be elite at everything and where we want to stake our identity is both obvious and common sense given the state of the league. -

i didn’t say you commented on them. I said the pass rushers are not valuable part was waaaaay over stated. in a league built to pass with an offense that is high scoring, interior run defense doesn’t excite me near as much as moving the passer who is trying to catch up to our offense. -

That last bit is terribly overstated by you -

counterpoint: he could be the guy and there weren’t many ways to add a slam dunk there. -

as it turns out, his comparable doesn’t have to be a highly picked bills DE from the last decade. in fact, it’s a silly pool to limit oneself to in finding a comp -

also, we can probably all agree that with 1 season and a year off — “needs to develop” and “big project” might have taken off a bit in easy analysis to throw around. not to say that he isn’t a work in progress but sometimes the easy analysis isn’t the thorough and up to date analysis outside combine numbers, I haven’t seen draft guys doing deep analysis of what hes done all year to grow - drills, coaching, and general training. What’s his film study program been? Surely he’s been in some sort of development system -

Ultimately it’s a league where you need to constantly be added pass catchers, pass rushers, and pass defenders in the secondary. all 3 spots are important (expensive) and depth guys constantly contribute -

also should effect passing lanes With his head up and long reach - he can impact quick releases we need a turnover creator and between pressure for sacks, reach for qb strips and tips he has a few things going for him there -
yup. The stats on a decent corner covering a tight end definitely bear this out. Gives up a little in the run game but if we are designed to score early and often, I’ll take a pass rusher over a little extra thump in the run defense in a base set when we already have 2 LB pretty well written in ink.

you have to think there’s some instinct and not just luck on 16 sacks vs 0 sacks too, as unrefined pass rushers available go. It’ll definitely include plenty of luck on whether either guy develops, and each have their pros and cons. He was a reasonable choice at the place he was chosen though.
