Shaq Lawson - Part of the problem, or a piece of the puzzle?
skibum replied to KOKO NFL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While he's not proving to be worthy of his high draft position, I think he's a certainly good enough player to keep in the rotation. They can't all be pro-bowlers. And who knows, he has the natural talent to become a really good player if it clicks for him. -
The Bills Worked Out Eight Players Yesterday
skibum replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This front office is brutal. You have an 8-month off-season to get your house in order for opening day. You get to pick a hundred players and select the best 53. And here we are, just two weeks into the season, and they are already scrambling to find talent. -
Bodine New Starter at Center for Week Three at MIN

Bengals fans were dancing in the streets when this guy shipped off for Buffalo. I would not expect any improvement whatsoever. -
Preston Brown "There's some weird stuff going on up there."
skibum replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love how everybody talks smack about the former Bills, as if they were all bad eggs and addition-by-subtraction moves by the GM - when all this team has done is suck so much more in their absence. Preston Brown had a lot of good games for the Bills, and he's probably right. Something ain't right when a veteran player retires in the middle of a game, the same game in which his defensive coordinator is basically benched by the head coach. Almost every player who was once a starter here and got dropped by Beane is an upgrade at his position over what we have now. -
Players choosing to retire from Bills
skibum replied to DieHardBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm surprised you don't see more players doing it. Imagine for a moment you're a 10-year vet with a beat up body, you're on a team that clearly is headed for a losing season, and you have millions of dollars in the bank. There are hundreds of pro athletes in that exact situation; considering the injury risk in the NFL now, I'm surprised anyone plays more than a couple years beyond their rookie contract anymore. That being said, I would expect players to retire early in the off-season rather than mid-game... -
I watched the "every throw Josh Allen made" video, and it was not pretty at all. He got lucky on the long Zay Jones throw, and a lot of his yards came on screen passes, one big one coming in garbage time. The rest of it looked really rough: - Every throw was a laser beam, which is not always called for - Placement did not allow for run after the catch; did not hit guys in stride really at all - Even worse, placement often put receiver in the path of a Safety running full speed into his chest - Several balls that he was lucky were not picked off, including the aforementioned bomb to ZJ. I still believe he has it in him to be good to great, but I think the critics were right - this young fella is RAW.

Josh Gordon to be released-now traded to PATS
skibum replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy hasn't played anywhere close to a full season in five years, during which time he repeatedly fell on and off the wagon. That's FIVE YEARS to prove he's worth hanging onto, and when he finally gets back on the field, he screws it all up immediately. Seven years in the league, with one great season, one good season, and five eggs laid. What's left to learn about this guy? Why in God's name would you think he's worth trading for? -
This piece is not what made Cowherd a scumbag. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Peterman is the only guy left on the bench when Allen finally gets carted off the field behind this awful O line. I doubt we have seen the last of NP , so rather than bag on him, maybe we should just shut up and hope he works it out.

How Safe Are Coach McDermott and GM Beane?
skibum replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right now, this looks like one of the most poorly managed teams in the NFL, both in terms of identifying and retaining talent and managing the salary cap. I guess you have to put that on the GM more than the coach, but the talent part is pretty egregious on both sides. -
Go Sabres!

I think the offenses are more on the GM side. Lots of openly stupid moves have been made, and somehow sold to us as solid gold. We are supposed to believe this is a team of diamonds in the rough, "process" guys with the right attitude, if not the pedigree. But we all saw yesterday how important high-level talent is to success in the NFL. This front office has made habit of jettisoning its most talented players, replacing them with JAGs, and eating the dead cap money. Look at the press guide - it breaks down the draft position of every player on the team. It's astonishing how many UDFAs and low-round picks there are. Lots of low ceilings.

Levitre was a very good player on a losing team, and there was a hot FA market for lineman at the time. The Bills payroll did not 'officially' have space to accommodate overpayment for a guard, so Levitre left. Perhaps he would have left regardless; one could easily understand why a free agent with a desire to win would wish to part ways with the Bills at that time. Unfortunately, that left us with a very suspect Guard rotation until Richie arrived two years later. Hindsight suggests that an extra million or so would have been a reasonable overpayment for such a steady player as Levitre, but only he knows if that was ever really an option.

Roster is set, pre-season over, how are you feeling?
skibum replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope they are at least fun to watch and put up a good fight, but they don't seem to have a whole lot of talent, depth, or experience - on offense in particular. Losing Wood and Incognito unexpectedly is a lot to overcome. I'm sure Josh Allen will have a chance at some point; I'd be pumped just to see him improve noticeably and maybe break a few big plays that show off the talent, even if they're losing by 20. Peterman could turn out to be good, too, which would be a nice bonus. Not anticipating a lot of victories, not on the scoreboard at least. What will be will be, Go Bills. -

Ian Rapoport: "Josh Allen is not quite ready" to start
skibum replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It won't matter much in the end. They can start the season with Peterman, but behind this O line he will sustain an injury within 3 weeks. Josh will get his opportunity soon enough, methinks. -
Why the hell didn't we address the OLINE?

Trust the Process? -
This is really frustrating. It's hard to compare Peterman's performance to Allens given NP is facing the 2's and JA faced the starters. But to my eye, Peteman is getting rid of the ball quickly, which is what separates the men from the boys at NFL quarterback. Allen had opportunities to dump it off or even throw it away before getting hit; he pumped, hesitated, froze, and got sacked. I don't think he's there yet. I think you have to give it to Peterman at this point.
