  1. we dont have civil discovery in criminal cases. there's no depositions and very little discovery. Of course a higher priced lawyer will engage in endless motion play, seeking all kinds of ridiculous or reasonable things that the average public defender doesnt have time for. (like, in this case, a speed survey, accident history kept by the government for that location, vehicle repair info, video from the chiefs' building, and motions to exclude all sorts of things, a motion for site view [packing all the jurors into a bus to go visit the site because its important for some reason or another]) And in crim, we dont worry about witness schedules much. Here is your subpoena. see you in court. Otherwise, yes. Court cases just take time. even the routine ones. Every victim in every case, i imagine, is irritated that the defendant's trial is not tomorrow morning. But every case cant be tomorrow morning.
  2. Yes, likely the DA agreed with the postponement. A factor in continuing trial is whether the passage of time would change anything, like the evidence, witness memories, etc. Priority is given for several other things, like people in custody (not out on bail) or whatever else the jurisdiction prioritizes. The DA is not gonna draw a line in the sand for a routine case like this. It would look like the DA was grandstanding for attention if there is really no other reason to oppose the continuance.
  3. Damn. That almost got past me. Thanks for that. Shame on me.
  4. early 90s NFC East. 4 straight super bowl victories. By 3 different teams.
  5. Two counter points, in favor of expansion: 1) more teams means more games. More televised games. So maybe the ratings wont change, but we'll get that TV money more times 2) gambling. As the NFL gambling revenue stream increases, that will be the next frontier. Not TV $$. More games to bet on = mo munny, mo munny, mo munny
  6. It occurred to me when I was reading GunnerBill's comment on 36 teams. I think this is why we see the free proliferation in QBs who are not prototypical pocket passers. Because those are really really hard to find / develop. There are plenty of bodies to fill 36 or 40 NFL teams, outside of QBs. So if we cant grow more QBs, then lets morph the position (and fan expectations) to fit what we Do have.
  7. very smart. Follow up question: they probably wont need to Tank to get there (especially in that Division), but with no QB on the team, they will have strong motive. So, will they Tank?
  8. No. Do NOT stay in your vehicle. We learned in Driver's ed, and most cops will agree: When you are on the side of the road in a car, ASSUME your car Will get hit from behind. Therefore, dont stay in the car. And dont stand behind the car (the worst possible place). They taught us to apply the parking brake and then stand in front of the vehicle (1) far enuf that the impact into your car wont crush you, yet (2) not so far that you will get hit by cars which dont smash into the back of yours. (separately: one of the problems with impaired drivers is that, when they are just trying to make it, they try to blend with traffic. But impaired, they might fixate on your car to match speeds and, by the time they realize your car is actually not moving, its too late).
  9. yeah, i was gonna mention guns, but i really dont think there's 'de-criminalization' there. In fact, every time there's a mass shooting, the will to de-crim actually goes down. But i do think there's a trend toward not prosecuting, or not charging what's on the books, in favor of common-sense enforcement. Like when Plaxico shot himself, or when players get stopped in cars with guns not properly registered, but who otherwise were minding their own business and not DUI or otherwise a threat to public safety (like, 'my gun is registered in Alabama but i'm visiting my second home here in Florida [mandatory minimum penalties, including jail]. oops. sorry.')
  10. -But nobody was being arrested during Covid -And there's so much 'de-criminalization' going on as a trend, which would certainly account for a descending trend. Especially considering that its largely drugs being decriminalized, which only leaves DUI or DV for the self-respecting 21-30 year old male millionaire.
  11. And this gem, a couple paragraphs from bottom: "Still, there’s no denying he isn’t fast . . . ."
  12. too lazy to google, but i also recall Rosen having family money also on his mother's side. She is apparently an east-coast old-money Wharton. As in Wharton School of Business (UPenn). This in the context of him maybe not loving/needing football. Was likened to Johnny "Texas family oil money" Manziel.
  13. There's the impression that the Giants want to acquire a 1st in 2023. Since they want to ammo up for a QB next year if necessary. I dont think they'd be happy to acquire our 2023 first, since it should project to being fairly low, which wouldnt be much of a move-up chip for NYG.
  14. i think its because JA knew he was being recorded. As discussed upthread, we got laws about that. That appears to be why with McVay we only hear Von talking and not McVay. One poster talked about getting JA's permission to use the audio, which must have been granted. I say that's incorrect. It is illegal to record without knowledge and consent. That consent must be obtained before recording. That's because the illegal act is recording, not just possessing a recording, or publishing a recording later. That said, I also like JA's demeanor. If you come, cool. If not, best wishes. I think JA cant act like this is the one piece we need to get over the top, when he shares the locker room with the entire Bills' defense: JA cant blame our failure on his defense, and certainly not pubicly. And even Von said himself at the intro presser: 'y'all are winnin the superbowl without me anyway'
  15. there is a reason that some punters dont hold. It was in one of the draft threads complaining about Araiza. A poster noted that the reason Araiza doesnt know how to hold is not laziness. its because he was busy practicing as the placekicker. So, since dedicated kickers dont ever need to learn to hold and dont have time to, it seems some college punters have legit reason to not know how to hold.
  16. I remember this talk last year. Those who wanted to draft JOK to be our 'big nickel' in the first round. Question: is "big" a critical component of big nickel? If so, how often is he on the field. And if so, does that rule out short armed Safeties with stiff hips (McKinley)?
  17. 1) I (a pure novice who wanted Claussen and the wrong Josh) wanted Rosen because I wanted "the smartest man in the room" because "quarterback's most important trait, by far, is between the ears." So why were all of us "wrong josh" people so. very. wrong? Is it as simple as "dont pick players who are already rich and/or dont eat-sleep-breathe football?" 2) I hadnt thought of Bandit in a while. w/out divulging anything but just in case i missed some common knowledge, whatever happened to him? I do recall his was a name when, scrolling through a topic, I would automatically stop and digest his stuff. 3) You would think that the Bills also discovered/suspected the over-stride. But would they have? because if so, then surely at least a couple other teams would have too, and would have similarly concluded that fixing that one very-fixable thing would unlock the potential. I mean, if Bandit could see it and Jordan Palmer could see it . . . (nothing against Palmer who I think is quite excellent, after I watched his video about next-gen analysis and training and de-bunking old wives' tale myths about how to play quarterback, mechanically).
  18. disagree the salary cap exists solely to guarantee that the owners make a base level of profit. A secondary benefit is parity. There might be a couple deep-pocketed owners who would vote for that, such as David Tepper, but i dont see such a thing ever coming to pass. Further, the NFL would rather use it as a bargaining chip with NFLPA to get something in exchange. I'm sure the NFLPA is unamimously in favor of raising the cap.
  19. Or, since the Texans had to approve a trade package prior to giving permission for the Panthers (and all teams) to then speak to Watson: -They promised Watson that CmC would be his running back if he came to them, or maybe -They promised to include CmC in the trade package to the Texans
  20. or mcKittrick. Pretty much anybody with "McK" 5) Leodis McKelvin
  21. I want Tyreek Hill: 1) Christian McCaffery. we dont need to slam him into the line 25 times per game. keeps him fresh. he can work the slot too 2) Cordarelle Patterson. The poor man's version. 3) Brandin Cooks (wr, HOU). The public-assistance-man's version
  22. Translation: Evan Engram's Agent wants it known that Engram has had ***** QB play and is young and can be had for $7-8MM. So get him before I have to actually call somebody like Buffalo.
