NFL Week @10 - Vikings at Bills - 2nd half game thread
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good drive to chew up some time and make it a three possession lead. If the Bills can make a defensive stop here they can then go into a 4 minute offense and try to choke out the game. -

Defense came up with two stops to start the half, you need to play complementary football and not let the Vikings hang around -

The offense is distributing the ball well thus far this type of offense seems more sustainable thus far. -

Good communication to his teammates to not touch the ball and then he scoops in up for a nice 7ish yard return. I love the fact that the Bills have a good punt returner again. -
This team came out flat and paid the price for it, away game against a good team and it was close, no need for a whole sale panic but concerning the team has not looked sharp offensively for 6 quarters and the team didn’t look like it could stop the run for the second straight game. These types of games happen onto the next

I think refs had this general notion not to “protect” running QB’s. Pocket passers started to be heavily protected in the 2000’s but QB’s that ran were less protected even when throwing the ball from the pocket. It started with Vick then RGIII and then Cam among others. Even Russell Wilson to a lesser degree got less protected. I think it’s smart for Josh to lobby for himself as much as possible esp in the pocket. It’s absolutely necessary that Josh not take the in pocket hits Cam took. Josh also seems to be sliding more and I don’t see many QB designed runs lately other than QB sneaks which are fairly low risk.

I hate when players bother the refs but in Joshes case I understand it because he or one of his coaches had to have seen how the refs didn’t protect Cam Newton and that massively shortened Cams career.

This is a nice move to add more speed to the offense but what I really like about this move is the special teams component that this brings. One of the few areas of the roster where you could for sure say the Bills were below average in was kick and punt returning. Mac is a pedestrian kick returner and Shakir a below average punt returner. Now the Bills add one of the better punt returners in the league and someone who can represent an upgrade on kickoff returns too. That’s a nice little addition to the team well worth what they gave up. But then you add the offensive ability and it’s a smart addition overall. Not weather shattering but patching up a weak area of the team and adding more to the skill position units.

49ers trade RB jeff Wilson to Miami
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills are better than Miami at QB, LB, Dline and special teams. Miami is better at WR I would say even in the secondary, Oline and RB (neither team really wows me at RB.) I would take the Bills roster any day even factoring out QB. -

A fairly marginal move not really anything that is going to move the needle. -
Philly and Dallas are legit teams and if the 49ers can get their defense healthy they are going to be a factor. The Vikings and Giants are paper tigers, the NFC South is a joke and the rest of the conference is pretty mediocre. Beyond the Bills and Chiefs you have a dam good Ravens team that could easily be 8-0 or at least have 6-7 wins but still sit at 5-3. You have a Titans team that has not lost since week two that is a legit team and you have some other tough teams out there like the Bengals, Browns (who will be getting a upgrade at QB) and Chargers. There is also still the Dolphins who sit at 5-3 and are formidable.

One thing I like about MSG and Barclays in NYC is that there is no parking lot or huge parking garage. People take the train or a combo of the bus or train to the games. Not to veer too far off topic but I wish more stadiums/arenas would have easy public transportation.

Pass rusher Josh Allen getting trade interest
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pass rushers also age fairly well, they play at a high level into their early 30's. Top pass rushers barring serious injury don't typically fall off until around age 32-34 and even then they don't completely fall off a cliff. So if you have a Jags Josh Allen, Bradley Chubb or Burns who are 24-26 years old they have a lot of prime years left. A rebuild in the NFL takes 3 or so seasons so a coach coming in with a 24-26 year old pass rusher is going to have a 27-29 year old still producing at a prime level with some more years left in the tank. Now if a pass rusher is 29-31 years old then a rebuilding team is going to want some draft capital to bring in players that will assist in a rebuild 2-3 years from now. So I just don't see these players getting traded. -
If that were the case then wouldn't he just file retirement papers? I wouldn't hold it against him if he just called it a career, he had a really good career all things considered. He has played in 9 playoff games including a Super Bowl with the Panthers (Williams played in 4 playoff games with the Panthers and 5 with the Bills). As you said he made 22 million in his career and was a second team All-Pro in 2017 so there certainly was some nice individual achievements too. But if he just wants to ride off into the sunset why then not just formally retire? That's what puzzles me about it. If he is interested in playing why isn't he signed to a team he can probably start for at least 12-16 NFL teams and would be the best or among the best backups on any O-line in the league? My personal theory is that he would be interested in playing but only for the right price and while teams may want to sign him maybe no one wants to match his price?

I am genuinely perplexed as to why Daryl Williams is not in the league. O-line play in the league is horrid and D.Williams was excellent in 2020 and when he kicked inside to guard in 2021 he was at least a starting caliber player or better. Is his heart just not in the game or did he suffer an unknown injury or was his salary demands just way too much? If I were McBeane (and thankfully I am not) I would see if Kromer likes either Flowers or Williams as depth? Other than that I don't see any other O-line options out on the free agency market. Via trade it is even harder but I have to think if something fits they will try to add a piece even if it is just suring up depth

Going for a Pats* win. The division needs to be won before anything else and the more space the Bills can build in the division the better. We all expect the Jets to cool off eventually (esp with their recent injuries) but until they do they are the biggest threat in the division.

Pass rusher Josh Allen getting trade interest
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hughes has cooled off since registering 4 sacks in 3 games. In the Texans past 4 games Hughes has zero sacks. Not saying Hughes wouldn't make a nice rotational player for any playoff team but he isn't a major difference maker either. -

I would easily give up a 1st for Jags Josh Allen, even as just a two year "rental" it would put the Bills as one of the best D-lines in the NFL in 2023 and cement the Bills 2022 D-line as being the best by an even wider margin. That being said Jags Josh is a 7.23 million dollar cap hit. I know there is ways to massage the cap but the Bills currently sit at 1.6 million in cap space. Jags Josh even if the salary is prorated to slightly less than half sits at about 3 million. KC isn't much better as they sit at 2.3 million in cap space so a trade for Jags Josh isn't much easier for them to pull off. I just don't see it happening given the Bills have other more pressing areas of need on the roster (guard) that they will be more active in and the cap math doesn't work out. The Chiefs are similar to the Bills in that they don't have much cap space. KC's cap space is 2.9 million The Bills is 1.6 million. Jags Josh has a cap hit of 7.32 million. I can't see either team being able to massage the cap enough to pull it off. If I was KC I would offer a 1st in 2023 and a 2nd in 2024 but I just don't see the cap working out esp after the Chiefs sunk in 750k on Toney. Unless a resident TBD cap expert can comment as to how the Bills or Chiefs can massage the cap to make it happen?
