Could EJ be re-signed after the season
billsfan89 replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt it, honestly seems like EJ would be better served going to a QB situation with a fresh start. I doubt Tyrod is going to stick up the joint that much where he wouldn't be on the roster unless the whole thing just gets blown up which is possible but not likely. Overall I think unless a new coach is so in love with EJ that he really wants to resign him then the chances of EJ being here next year are slim to none. I think EJ probably wants a new situation and I think the Bills probably are best off moving on too. -
Week 2 predictions: Jets at Bills on TNF
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
24-13 Jets, just think that the Jets front 7 is going to put a ton of pressure on Tyrod and he won't be able to do too much. Jets offense will be stifled by the Bills defense for the first three quarters. Going into the 4th the game will be close but the Jets just grind out the Bills defense and take it by 2 scores. -
Maybe they do consider shutting him down for a 3-4 week period. He did possibly rush to come back from injury, so maybe he just needs a month to fully recover? I think Sammy is the second most important player on the team so not having him would be a huge blow. Maybe you lose him for a month to preserve him for the rest of the season? But if the team is 0-5 or 1-4 by the time he comes back there might not be much of a season left.

The Fins are a mess, they remind me of the Redskin from the early to mid 00's, lots of big free agency moves and trading draft picks for vets to try and do a quick turnaround. I feel that the Fins need a complete overhaul of their front office before they can sustain any success. The team can draw free agents and the ownership is willing to spend. But it hasn't manifested into anything because their management isn't very good at building a team. Their drafting is bad to mediocre, their free agents are more miss than hit, and they don't seem make good coaching decisions. That being said it's not as though the Bills are world beaters but the Fins are always overrated. Hopefully the Bills having decent records the last 2 seasons is a sign that they are starting to build the team the right way.

He looked liked he was going to come in and be a starting caliber guard as a rookie last year. He started the season out decent a little up and down but looked like an NFL player. However he clearly was derailed by the injury. Hopefully he gets back on track the line seems to be getting better second year in the system.

From Center to Left Tackle the OL looks good same as last year. Right side is a concern but Miller looked solid last year before the injury and Miller looks pretty good by most accounts at RG so far. Mills played decently last year and if he can just be a decent RT and the rest of the line hold the unit as a collective should be pretty good.

Drew Brees signs extension with Saints
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably would be hard to do because they would see stock as a circumvention of the salary cap. But I suspect that QB's who collect many big contracts probably would buy into the team after they retire. -
"Experts" Picks Week 1 vs the Ravens
billsfan89 replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a toss up game probably slightly favoring Baltimore because they are the home team. Both the Bills and Ravens seem to be middle class teams in the NFL that could finish anywhere between 6-10 to 10-6. -
Players cut by other teams that might fit Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lawson didn't seem to fit Rex's scheme or maybe he lost a step. So I think they cut him because of performance as opposed to how much they loved the other players on the depth chart. That being said I obviously am not on the coaching staff so I don't know how much they love the other younger players. But from the outside looking in I could see how they could be looking for an upgrade esp a guy like Coples who Rex drafted high and coached for a few seasons. -
Possibly good news hopefully it results in more pocket time for Tyrod.

Drew Brees signs extension with Saints
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Saints will give him that deal and to be honest if they didn't some other team would justifiably so. Peyton Manning at age 36 got a pretty comparable deal and Manning was coming off of a season that he missed due to injury. Brees threw for 4800+ yards, 32 TD's to 11 INT's last year on 68% completion percentage. The Saints finished 7-9 the past couple of years because their defense is horrendous not because they tied too many resources into the QB position. I suspect that Brees has a couple of good years left in the tank and the time to have traded him for a uber haul of picks would have been 2 years ago. So you have to hold onto such a premium player at such a premium position and try to win in a small window (Most windows in the league are only as good as the QB anyway). -
The waiver claim of Vitale got me thinking...
billsfan89 replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Any player that helps the team be more flexible on offense is usually a good thing. Personally I think someone high up on the staff liked Vitale (Most likely Roman or someone who reports directly to Roman) and then sold the rest of the staff on what he could possibly bring to the table. -
Bears could have gotten a very useful pickup, team needs O-line help bad.

Players cut by other teams that might fit Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't be surprised at Coples, team is desperate at OLB and Rex drafted him in the 1st round (Rex had to like something about him and he is familiar with Rex Ryan's scheme). -
Miller isn't a bad option but you can't fault any team looking to upgrade. Still I think he would want to go to a contender. Reminds me of when Evan Mathis was cut last year, he took a deal to go to a contender. Wouldn't be surprised if the Colts take a hard look at him, need offensive line help badly only issue is are they really a top contender?

John Miller's progress, how has he looked?
billsfan89 replied to Cover 1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't been watching too much this pre-season but I thought Miller was going to be a stud contributor last season as he looked good in per-season and solid to start the year. But then the injury hit and even though a high ankle sprain isn't a major injury its a nagging one that lingers for a long time. So it sounds encouraging that Miller has looked good year two. Hopefully Mills can be an adequate RT and then the O-line could easily push to be a top 5 unit in the league. -
Why do teams keep giving up high draft picks for Sam Bradford?
-
I wouldn't mind the Bills taking a shot here. Exceptional physical tools and certainly showed flashes his first two years in the league. Certainly fallen off recently but at age 25 he still should have most of the physical tools he entered the league with. Maybe a chance of scenery and a new sense of desperation after being cut and on a new one year prove it deal could turn him around. Right now the Bills don't have a lot to inspire you at receiver. Why not try Hunter at WR#2 and move Woods to the slot? It certainly won't be worse than what we have.

Jared Goff = #1 overall pick, 3rd string QB
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No need to force a guy into action because you spent a lot to get him. The Goff trade needs to be something that pans out over the course of 10-15 years, you shouldn't risk your possibly bright future for short term gains. Let him get acclimated to being a pro from the bench, if the Rams are really out of it the towards the end of the season throw him in for a few starts to get his feet wet. QB is the only position on a football team where you can truly play for the long term in the NFL. Your team can have a decade plus chance at success with a legit franchise QB, so bring along your possible franchise QB slowly. -
It's the NFL weird things happen. So the fact that all 4 teams are underdogs is meaningless to me. I feel like you don't really get a feel for the season until after 4 weeks in. By then you can see the patterns forming and get a feel for which teams are at what point. I feel as though the crapshoot that is the NFL makes it an insane proposition to bet on games early in the season let alone at all.

McCoy - Best player no one is talking about
billsfan89 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only question with McCoy is that can he stay healthy, last year when healthy he played like a stud RB, he got off to a slow start due to injury, then killed it in the middle to back end of the season still he got cut short with injury the last few games. If he can stay healthy he is a all purpose RB, can catch, block, run in open space, and run between the tackles (Running between the tackles probably his weakest but he is still effective there). -
Rueben Randle for 3rd receiver?
billsfan89 replied to prophrox2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always wounder if fans value other teams players simply because they don't watch the other teams as much? You tend to only pay attention to other teams players if they are doing well, some bad stands out but when you only watch a team fully once or twice a year the good plays stand out in your memory more. That being said is Randle this late into the pre-season going to come in and master the system under a new coach and get chemistry with new teammates more so than the players who have been working since the Spring? Probably not, at least in the short term. If the management wanted to kick the tires on Randle as a longer term project, there is a case for that. But more than likely the Bills will go with the Devil they know and hope one lands. If Randle got booted from Philly, a not so strong WR core. I think he won't be getting serious calls until injuries hit. Hopefully he makes the most of what could be his last significant playing opportunity it could be his last legit chance to play some more years in the league. -
As much as I feel that the NFL still drug testing and suspending people for weed is stupid (Considering that Weed is legal in 4 states and will be in many more in the upcoming years) I don't feel bad for the players who do get suspended, If Aaron Hernandez never got caught then it isn't that hard to beat the drug testing. Tough blow to a defense that has suffered a lot of them in the off-season. Not season ending catastrophic but another bitter pill to swallow.

Bills announce contract extension for Tyrod Taylor
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's true but some are bigger than others. This one is obviously a big gamble. It could hamper their cap in the future if it ends up being a Ftiz situation. But be bold be aggressive and hope it all pans out. I also like the deal as it leaves the franchise tag open to use on Gilmore. I know Gilimore isn't going to sign a tag but if you tag him you give yourselves a chance to trade him.
