ESPN 30 for 30 - O.J.: Made in America
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was such a non-traditional doc, so much good footage that has been rarely seen. I loved how they didn't do the typical talking head interviews spliced in with footage and stills. -
Jets could maybe make a package of pick #20, Mo Wilkerson, pick #51, An additional mid round pick this year, The Jets 1st next year, and The Jets 2nd next year for pick #1. The Titans get Wilkerson a very good defensive talent a couple of extra picks this year and a good haul for next years draft. while still getting to pick at 20. I don't think that the Jets need to go full RGIII trade but they need to put in a pretty good haul of picks on top of Wilkerson. Definitely include this years 2nd and next years 1st is the starting point. I think next years 2nd plus a 4th or 3rd this year would be a good topper to that deal at the minimum. I do think that the Skins !@#$ed everyone over as teams will be expecting 2 future 1st rounders along with a 2nd in any deal for trading up into a top pick that is a QB. They set the standard. Although Cleveland got significantly less in the trade for Sammy but that maybe was a team in a less desperate situation.

Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson retiring
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Odd that he would just retire as it seems like that even if he wasn't going to get his 14 million dollar salary he probably would have gotten solid offers from a team. But I think this late into free agency the offers while decent weren't going to be great. Maybe he takes a year off heal up from some nagging injuries and reenters the market next off-season. Either that or maybe 10 years and a couple of good contracts is good enough for him. -

I say the Trial of the Century is two of the parts. One part the abusive toxic relationship between him and Nicole and up to the Bronco chase and the second part the trial itself. The NFL playing days and the media darling will likely be combined into one part. For 5 seasons OJ averaged about 1500 yards a season in 14 game seasons. Including averaging 143 yards per game in that 2000 yard season he had. Clearly he was a hall of fame player. Throw in his cultural impact in his off the field ventures and it's easy to see why his trial and fall from grace are such a compelling story. -
FA LB Danny Lananah to visit Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems like he could be a diamond in the rough and be a quality backup LB. More depth at LB is a good thing for the Bills right now, would like this pickup. Overall it's hard to get too excited about a player a team let go so easily but when it comes to depth in the NFL you can get it by being smart with under the radar acquisitions. -
Who would surprise you as the Bills 1st round pick?
billsfan89 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not too many positions I would be surprised that the Bills would take. A Defensive back would shock me as they seem pretty set at CB and Safety is more so a depth need. Any position in the front 7 wouldn't be a surprise. On offense any position outside of QB, RB, and Tightend seems surprising. Any other position seems to have some level of need. -
We have the worst cap situation in the league?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills could go out and secure one more fairly cheap vet (Although Brown and Moore were nice additions) I would love to see the Bills nab a pure NT, even if they draft one it still would be nice to have depth at that position. -
Bills Sign UFA CB Sterling Moore
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Moore was graded to be the 64th best CB by some metrics. Overall I think the grab that kind of player as a dime back is solid. Brown was another type of signing that graded out fairly high by some metrics. Both guys should provide a good amount of depth towards a defense that lost a good amount of it in free agency. -
Bills Sign UFA CB Sterling Moore
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One less position the Bills need to worry about depth wise. With White and Moore they have two options at the dime back position. I like Moore better as he seems to be graded out way better and I think he will play as the dime back and as a backup to Robey. Solid little moves the Bills are making to sure up the depth of the secondary. Going into the draft I had Safety and CB as potential mid round depth needs, I think it's good to take one of those need off the board in CB. The first 3 of Gilmore, Darby, and Robey are very good and the team has a ton of options in Moore, White, and Mario Butler to play the dime back and step in in case of injury. -
Looks like Donte Whitner cut by Browns
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup, within a year from the 2006-2007 off-season they lost or got rid of Milloy, Spikes, Fletcher, and Clements on top of losing Pat Williams in the off-season of 2005. Jauron and Levy got rid of a lot of effective vets for little or no gain. Yes Clements got overpaid and Spikes got hurt shortly after trading him but Milloy and Fletcher were 2 self inflicted wounds and they ended up spending 2 premium draft choices trying to replace them (Poz and Whitner) at a time when they weren't able to get much going in free agency and they needed to hit on every draft choice possible. They could have kept Milloy and drafted Ngata and Mangold and had 3 positions filled that year. Tons of missteps in those years, thankfully they seem to be better at drafting and able to attract free agents to the team. -
NFL.com: Bills #1 need in draft is OT
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills in my opinion need 2-3 starters in the front 7 (NT and OLB and MLB), so while RT is a need and I wouldn't hate the Bills taking one to sure up the O-line I think that it would only make sense if a RT was the Best player available. However if the choice was between a pass rusher or DT and a RT and both were graded out similar I would rather they take the front 7 player. With Mario and Bradham gone and Kyle getting older they need to replenish the front 7 and find players more suited for Rex's system. Bottom line I guess I am more comfortable with Henderson and Kujo at RT than I am with the options they currently have at NT, OLB, and MLB. -
Wtih Brown you can safely take MLB off the board in the first two rounds. Since Nix took over it seems like they don't put big resources into LB. Manny Lawson, Andra Davis, and Brandon Spikes were the biggest free agents they got at that position in that time. Kiko was the only LB they drafted before round 3 in that time. I think they go with a D-line round 1 and an OLB pass rusher round 2. I do think they grab an MLB in round 3 or 4.
-
If you look at the Bills track record with LB's since Nix/Whaley have been in charge they tend to go with mid rounders and mid level to lower level signings. So I think that they go with a LB at some point in rounds 3-5. Their 3 most notable LB's drafted were Bradham in round 4, Preston Brown in round 3, and Kiko in round 2. Manny Lawson, Andra Davis, and Brandon Spikes were their biggest free agent targets at the position in that time all more mid level signings (On top of letting Poz go). I think on defense they in general think they can find good players at that position fairly cheaply and in the mid to later rounds. Brown to me seems to be a fall back option at worst and a coverage LB who provides depth at best.

LB Zach Brown & DB Corey White Sign with Bills
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brown is exactly the type of bargain the Bills needed. He isn't a premier run stuffer but he is graded very good in coverage. With the Pats* having Gronk and Bennett having a LB that can cover well is a great need for this defense. He is a guy you can plug in at MLB if there aren't better options in the draft and even if a draft pick is brought in Brown can still have an impact in particular packages. Corey White is someone Rob Ryan must like a lot not too inspired by the signing but Brown should prove to be a great depth addition to a front 7 that desperately needs it. -
Looks like Donte Whitner cut by Browns
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Whitner selection wasn't a complete bust. He was an above average player and found a good role on the 49ers where he excelled playing on a stacked defense. But the Bills needed a home run with that pick in 2006, they either could have traded down and gotten a nice package of picks for Leinart who was falling or drafted Ngata and he would have been a high level talent for years to come at a clear position of need for the Bills at the time. Instead they got solid player at a position where they had other options. Keep in mind in 2006 it was Jauron's first year and there were key players in 2006 whose contracts were expiring (Clements, London Fletcher) and a key player in Spikes coming off of an injury. They needed to try and set the table with a great draft and instead of Ngata and Mangold along with finding Kyle in round 5, they got Whitner and McCargo. -
Nickel Defense is the New Base Defense in the NFL
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed it's a passing league so your nickel defenses are the new base defense. The fullback is now a specialty position as opposed to a base position and it has been replaced by a combo of a second tight end or a slot receiver. It use to be considered a luxury and good depth to have 3 good CB's, now you need 3 just to field a good unit while 4-5 you feel you can count on is optimal depth at that position. -
The Bills bring DL Vernon Butler in for a visit.
billsfan89 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't mind the pick. The team needs to find two starters in the front 7 at a minimum. I would prefer they find a pass rusher but if they feel Butler is the best player on the board it would be a solid pick. -
NFL Network: Bills Will Challenge for AFC East Crown
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It will be hard to usurp the Pats* but the Bills ability to be a playoff team will depend on how much impact they can get out of the draft and if they can make smart depth moves in free agency. Right now the Bills need at least 2 starters and 1 contributing player in the draft. A tall order. -
Confirmed: DE Kroy Biermann Visiting Bills
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It looks to me like a kick the tires on trying to find a cheap depth player. I doubt they will be counting on him beyond being a good backup/role player. -
50% Hit Rate on Top 5 Picks Since 2012
billsfan89 replied to cage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as us keyboard GM's look at drafting as something systematic it really is a crap shoot. Granted some teams know what types of players they are looking for and they have better success in finding players that can contribute to their teams, but even with the most successful drafting teams there is still a high failure rate. Scouting involves a lot of guesswork and speculation which leads to a lot of luck being involved. I think since 2011 the Bills drafting has been pretty solid. But they need more than a solid draft this year as they need at the very least 2 starters and a couple of contributors from this draft. -
If he wanted out of Cleveland and the Browns hand was forced so to speak to trade him I would love to see him on the Bills. I think he is such a talent and his off-field problems seem like they could be behind him. But I think that the Browns will likely hold onto him for this season. A potential dynamic talent whose return on a trade would be very low. Bottom line I don't think the Browns are stupid enough to sell low on him.

Isn't Goodwin still on the roster? I think giving him a chance to make the team would be a more productive use of off-season/training camp reps. They are basically the same player.
