Alfred Morris signs 2 year deal with Cowboys
billsfan89 replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They were ranked as the best offensive line in 2015 by PFF and by almost any measure were considered to be the best or one of the best units in the league last year. Of course Demarco Murray not being their crimped the ability of the running game but Darren McFadden managed to rush for over 1000 yards at 4.6 yards per carry behind that line when he had had 3.4 yards per carry and 3.3 yards per carry the two prior seasons with Oakland. I suspect that Morris will be in a tandem with McFadden, with maybe Julius Randall being a change of pace back. It should be a fairly solid running back rotation behind that monster O-line, even if they are a mostly mid level series of backs but when your line is that good you don't really need a complete stud behind it. -
Alfred Morris signs 2 year deal with Cowboys
billsfan89 replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A very good move by the Cowboys. Morris is a slightly above average RB the past couple of seasons who is about as good as the offensive line blocking for him. The Cowboys have one of if not the best O-lines in the league, so it's a pretty good move to get a solid RB behind that line. -
Rex doesn't know how to defend Gronk Bennett duo

Pressure Brady press all receivers. Hopefully Brady starts to decline this season been waiting forever on that. -
Kraig Urbik cut (update - signed with Miami)
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A good backup but a bit costly at our current cap situation. Such a good find by Nix in his first year, turned in some quality starts. I suspect that the team will draft O-line in the mid rounds and scour the veteran markets as free agency closes out and for June cuts. I am comfortable with InCog and Miller at guard but the depth behind them isn't very good. -
Report: Fitzy to hit the market
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets cave in a bit and give Fitz a 3 year 38 million dollar contract. 1st year is 3 million dollar signing bonus with a 10 million dollar base salary guaranteed. Second year is 12.5 million with little guaranteed and third year is 12.5 million no guarantee. The deal is basically a full first year guarantee at 13 million then the Jets give him a small 2.5 million guarantee on year two and the third year is basically a team option. I think Denver would be willing to give him around 10-11 million a year so the Jets boost him up a bit to get their guy. -
Well one would have been pick 20 that year so it was essentially trade down 18 spots get a third rounder, Sam Bradford, Fletcher Cox, and the Eagles 1st the year after. Bradford is damaged goods and while Cox, a 1st rounder the year after, and a 3rd round pick is a decent haul I think that in a QB driven league you take the shot with possibly getting a stud young QB. I think after seeing Mariota's 1st year I think they made the right decision.

Would you trade for Clady and start him at RT?
billsfan89 replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure doesn't seem realistic though given the current cap situation. I think RT is a spot that could use an upgrade but there are more important needs that the team could spend space on. Henderson could do a solid job and there are plenty of people on the roster that can push a camp competition. I think if the Bills have 2-3 million in cap space left before rookies it would be better used signing a vet NT or a vet MLB for depth purposes. -
Is McGowan the next Jason Peters?
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jasper was a prospect I thought for sure would have a productive pro career. I wasn't thinking he would be a hall of famer or even a pro bowler. But I thought he would be a decent starting caliber or a rotational player. The board went nuts for him, I always think drafting these "freakshow" raw athletes is a much better use of a 7th round selection (Esp if the team has multiple 7th rounders) than on a marginal prospect. Although it's not as though you can't find good prospects in the 7th round. -
Wondering why we are not looking at NT's
billsfan89 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think regardless of how good the Bills management think the draft class is at that position they should have a veteran option in case the players they want don't fall and for depth. Seems like a fairly cheap vet NT that is a one dimensional run stuffer could be had for what the Bills need. -
Solid move, he will be 31 he could give them a solid season a nice bandaid to the loss of Jones.

Kerley visiting the bills-Signed by Detroit
billsfan89 replied to Bash_Gash's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Hogan slightly better but if the price is right he would be a solid slot receiver. Kind of a solid under the radar move. Gives them an option in case a mid to late round rookie isn't enough. -
Chandler Jones is gone from the AFCE! Traded to Cards
billsfan89 replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good trade for both sides. Cooper fills a need to help out their offensive line while they get a good pick on top of it. The Cards give up a lot but they get a stud defender. I like the trade more for the Cards as I think pass rushers are always at a premium but the Pats* got a pretty good haul for him. Throw in the fact that he is a bit of a risky player off the field makes this a sensible trade for both sides. -
The overall lack of QB talent is killing the NFL
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
QB development could be much better. Top picks are being rushed into action because owners and coaches are impatient and trying to get results or save their jobs. Any QB should sit their rookie year and learn NFL defenses, offenses, polish up mechanics, and learn to prepare as a pro. To be honest most QB's should sit 2 years before taking the field. But QB's always get rushed into action. -
Does anyone feel like the roster can be better this year?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As far as the long list of needs (Which I don't think is that long) I think there are options later in free agency that can help the Bills add a few key depth players. As far as the draft goes they need to find some pass rushers in rounds 1 and 2, then improve the depth of the team in the mid rounds. In the later stages of free agency they can find a NT and a 3-4 MLB option. There is no doubt that there will be 2-3 holes on the roster and some positions were the team will be a little thin. But remember going into last year QB was a mess, offensive line was a big question mark both in terms of starters and in terms of depth and linebacker was also a concern depth wise. So it's not like last years team was spotless. -
DT Stefan Charles Signing 1 Year Deal with Detroit
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Solid player, but the team needs a true NT on the roster. Not a ton of cap space to go out and get a player out on the market with significant demand. But there will likely be a veteran NT out on the market in the later stages of free agency that would better occupy a roster spot than Charles. Although I would have liked him on the roster he isn't a hard to replace guy. -
Does anyone feel like the roster can be better this year?
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the defense will be better suited to work with the personnel along with the front office bringing in a couple of mid tier guys to help the defense out. The offense could get better through consistency of playing together and a QB having a full season under his belt. Overall I think we will look at this years and last years rosters differently. Last year after all the splashes and counting on an All-World defense to return there was a lot of optimism about the overall strength of the roster. This year the team retained the talent it needed and can focus on trying to rebuild the foundation of the defense. So the view of the team will be much more narrow overall. -
Are the Dolphins a concern for you?
billsfan89 replied to gr8billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They lost their best Running Back and their defense just brought on a bunch of big names who are on the decline or injury prone. I think the Fins will be a formidable team but they won't be a threat to make the playoffs. They will probably be in the 7 to 9 wins range. Going the Redskins route of trying to win free agency doesn't work. -
Kyle Williams got hurt, Mario Williams regressed big time, and Aaron Williams got hurt. 3 key starters go down or regress big time you are going to have some level of regression on the defense. Half of your all world D-line (Which was the lynchpin to the unit) goes down or regresses. You suffer an injury to one of your top 2 or 3 DB's and your LB's don't fit perfectly into a new scheme. It was a lot of things that led to the Bills regressing defensively. Hopefully they get Kyle and Aaron back healthy, find players that fit the scheme better at MLB and in terms of a pass rusher, and the rest of the players get coached up to better fit the defense (And Rex adjusts his defense to better fit his players). I think the Eagles just got a really good player in Nigel. Young, fits the scheme, and highly effective in said scheme. The Bills seem to be committed to Rex's scheme so they likely need to put the resources into finding the personnel best suited to run it.

I would like the signing. The Bills could use someone that could fill that pure NT Role. Kyle and Dareus would be better off playing more outside in certain situations. I thought the Bills missed the boat not having one on the roster last year.

What does this year's Free Agency do to Tyrod's value?
billsfan89 replied to hmsmystic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let him play out this year, cross that bridge when the team gets to it. QB's get overpaid that's the nature of the league. I like Tyrod but he needs to prove it over the course of another season. The Bills cap won't be a huge issue next season as a lot of guaranteed money due this year is off and so that makes for a lot of cutable players that can free up major space, along with possibly some significant dead money coming off the books as well. -
Dwayne Allen gets 4 Years, 29.4 Mil
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Definitely puts the Clay contract into perspective. At least Clay was a good productive versatile player and he gave the Bills solid production year 1. I think that the tight end market must be that desperate for such a massive overpay. -
Mike Wallace anyone?/Signs w/ Balt.
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a bad idea. Move Woods to the slot and have Wallace go deep outside. Of course you would like a better option but if they feel he fits the offense and still has a solid year left in him it could be a decent band aid type move. Throw Wallace out there for a year hope to get solid production for one year and then focus other resources on other needs. -
Odds that Whaley does a "Sammy" in the draft?
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not very high. The Bills don't have that one glaring need. Offensively they have a couple of holes at RT and WR and defensively they look to need a good amount of help finding a pass rush and a MLB along with another possible hole at safety. So they go quantity over quality, try and find a couple of impact players rounds 1 and 2, and then hit on another big contributor in the mid rounds or at the very least find depth and immediate role players later in the draft. -
Incognito signs 3 year deal with bills
billsfan89 replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good move salary was modest compared to what some guards at his level of production last season are getting on the market. I think the team has to look at upgrading RT and maybe find a new slot WR option. The offense then will simply depend on how good Tyrod can be. As far as defense that's another story. Maybe draft heavy on defense and try to find a couple of more modestly priced vets out there. Pass rush and Linebacker seem to be of need, and the team could use a safety. Hopefully the return of Kyle Williams and Rex getting players better fit for his system via the draft and free agency will work out.
