Bills Showing Interest in Josh Gordon?
billsfan89 replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would love it if the Bills found a way to get Gordon either for a late conditional pick or just off free agency. He is one of the best WR in the game, although I do think that the Bills would need to have a plan B and C in place for a possible suspension for Gordon but it would be a fairly low risk high reward type move for the Bills to try and get a dynamic player opposite Sammy for relatively little cost. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bills go after him but I don't see it fitting the way this new coaching staff operates. -
Breakout Season for Shaq Lawson in 2017?
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the D-line stays healthy I think that unit could be as good if not better than it was in 2014. Hughes, Dareus, Kyle, Lorax, Shaq, Ryan, and Washington could be an elite deep unit. Shaq's development is a huge part of the future of the Defense in general. -
Changes coming to Bills front office?
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Whaley needs to go if McD isn't high on working with him. Dysfunctional Head Coach GM relationships never seem to work out. I think he has been decent as a GM overall, above average drafter hit or miss in free agency. So losing him isn't a dramatic loss as I think having him there with a head coach that doesn't trust him just won't work for anybody. -
Things could still shake out differently. This whole Brown saga has been very interesting to say the least. No matter where he goes I won't be surprised. Still hope the Bills can get him at a good price since I am a firm believer that the team needs a line backer that can cover.
-
None of those guys are good in coverage. Lorax is much more of a pass rushing specialist who should be moved around from DE to OLB, and even P.Brown and Ragland are going to have issues in coverage. Zach Brown would be a starting OLB and more importantly be our only LB that can cover well. I don't think the team should over pay for him but I do think that he would be a valuable LB for the Bills to have.
-
New representation and a visit looks encouraging. It is clear his old agent over leveraged his position in the market. Teams weren't willing to pay him for last years production alone. Brown could be a one hit wonder and he tailed off a little bit in the last 4 games of last season. So it kind of seems that teams just weren't willing to shell out big bucks and a lot of guarantees for one year of good production after 4 years of a less than stellar track record. I hope the Bills get him back at a good price. I suspect Brown was looking for something in the 7-8 million range and the Bills were looking at 4-5, I suspect they come to something around 5 million maybe a tad bit more. Bills really could round out their front 7 very well if they bring back Brown. Not to mention that they have a very big need for a line backer that can be good in coverage something they currently lack and something that Brown brings.

Bills 2017 FA Class or Gilmore/Woods?
billsfan89 replied to Adam727's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods was overpaid as was Gilmore. But I do think that the team could be missing Gilmore more so than Woods. Woods is a effective number 3 being paid like a high end number 2. Gilmore is a solid starting corner being paid as a top 10 corner but I do think that the team will struggle a lot more to replace him. Hopefully the Bills find a way to maximize their remaining cap space and the remaining market of free agents. Safety and Linebacker in particular are places where the Bills can take some needs off the board before the draft with quality players. -
Solid at what he does, nice player to have back.

Are the Bills hoping another team signs Gillislee?
billsfan89 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let the market negotiate for him, if a team decides to overpay a bit for him then pocket a 5th round pick, if the contract is reasonable sign him. I like him as a backup and I think at a fair price he is a great player to have behind Shady but insure yourself a decent pick if some team falls in love with him and wants to overpay. I think that the tender was the right one it's a decent enough pick where you feel as though you are getting something for him but yet not high enough to ward off teams completely. -
I agree that there is still good players available at good prices so the Bills can still finish strong in free agency. But fans always get nervous when they see other teams making big moves while their team loses more talent than they acquire. The Bills I feel have had a net loss in talent so far. Robert Woods, Gilmore, and possibly Zach Brown are all 3 starting players who were contributors to varying degrees. The team also has to replace Aaron Williams and Graham at safety both players were banged up but they contributed when healthy. And the issues of the talent lost are on top of issues with the rosters during the season. So even if the Bills had kept all their talent they still needed to add several pieces (RT, WR, and CB on top of depth concerns) I like the signing that the Bills have made so far and I do feel that the bigger talent lost was either highly over paid in Gilmore and Woods (And possibly Z.Brown) or injury prone players who just were not able to stay healthy in A.Williams and Graham. Yet it is an understandable concern that the Bills might not scoop up any of the talent remaining in free agency that fit their needs.

What's the DeAndre Hopkins situation ?
billsfan89 replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Holmes ideally is a better version of Justin Hunter, a number 4 WR that can maybe fill in as a number 2 in a short term sense. I liked the Holmes signing but it is clear that the team needs 2 receivers ahead of Holmes if the passing attack is to be effective. Sadly unless the Bills spend 2 high draft picks or at the very least sign a good slot receiver and then spend a high draft choice then the Bills will likely be lacking at receiver -
Zach Browns interveiw in Oakland sours quickly
billsfan89 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Brown wants to be paid high end starting linebacker money. Whereas teams are looking at him most likely more so middle of the pack type money. I don't think teams are backing down because of character issues or anything like that. I think it is more so a case of teams thinking he might be a one hit wonder. 4 years with the Titans and Brown was very subpar. His best asset was that he was kind of good in coverage but was very bad against the run. Even in Buffalo Brown's play tailed off a bit the last 4ish games of the season. So teams have to be concerned that Brown in a contract year maybe put together his only career year and might not live up to a big contract. In the end I think Brown might be over leveraging the good year he had and he simply might not have enough of a resume to justify the contract he is looking for. I think in the end he might take a one year deal at around 5-6 million and then take his chances out on the market next year. Just seems like the longer term deals are likely in the 4-5 million per with low guarantees on the 2nd year. -
Zach Browns interveiw in Oakland sours quickly
billsfan89 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Having Brown back at a reasonable price gives the team a good coverage linebacker that the front 7 does need. It also makes lorax a more versatile player since he can lineup at either the OLB or DE spot. I wouldn't overpay for Brown but the team could certainly use him. -
Andre Holmes officially signed
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ideally a replacement for Justin Hunter as the #4 WR redzone target could slide in as #2 if injury happens. But right now yeah he is our #2. -
Chad Kelly has a significant injury issue and a lot of concerns about character. On top of that even if he didn't have the injury issue and the character issue he wasn't viewed as a uber high end prospect. He had issues even if healthy and no other issues. I think at best Kelly gets taken in the 6th or 7th (Best case 5th round if some team falls for him or he is able to do something to raise his stock) round. It wouldn't surprise me if he went undrafted. If he was there for the Bills in the 7th round I would take him, put him and Jones behind Tyrod and groom a couple of these guys while we have a capable starting QB.

Report: Seahawks Open to Trading Richard Sherman
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would trade this years 2nd and a 5th next year. I wouldn't trade pick 10. Sherman is a good still relatively young player on a reasonable contract for his skills and he fits the scheme. A high 2nd rounder and then a mid round pick next year is a decent amount to give up but I think Sherman and Darby is a great 1-2 combo to have on the outside. -
Some Thoughts As EJ Walks Out The Door
billsfan89 replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the off-season of 2013 the Bills handled their QB situation poorly. Kolb was signed as the veteran stop gap but the team probably should have been more aggressive in the market finding other options as far as having a pair of competent veteran QB's. Maybe had the team got a couple of Kyle Orton type QB's they would have been more comfortable at the position enough to not feel like they had to get a QB in the draft. The made an excellent trade down to pick up an extra 2nd round pick and they could have gotten a lot of talented players at pick 16. Instead the team felt compelled to reach for EJ since they needed a QB. EJ wasn't the right player and it wasn't the right time. EJ probably would have been best suited to play behind a talented veteran QB for 2-3 years. Learn the game slowly spend years working on footwork and mastering a system. EJ has the work ethic, the smarts, and the physical tools he just lacked the technique and footwork to be successful in the pros. Had he been in a good spot after being drafted maybe he could have worked out. But the Bills were not that spot, at best they maybe could have sat him for a year but they were forced to go with EJ early and the results showed. -
Preston Brown publicly courting Zach Brown and its awesome
billsfan89 replied to pbanach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Getting Zach Brown back in the fold would set the team up well in the front 7. Ragland can anchor the MLB position and both Browns can flank him at the OLB spots with Lorax taking some snaps at OLB. The team wouldn't have to touch the front 7 this season with Brown back in the fold. I like that Preston is doing this, hopefully they are able to get Brown back at a good price. -
Patriots build Superbowl team, Bills stay the same!
billsfan89 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Free agency isn't over. The options dwindle by the day but there are still good players out there to be had that could fill needs for this team. The team made a smart move bringing back Taylor and made good moves in bringing in Hyde and resigning Lorax. The team is desperately thin at receiver and corner and could use a boost at RT and Safety. But the draft could provide some of those needs and the team can make a move or two in free agency to fill some of those needs. Hopefully the Bills keep active in the secondary market and have a good draft. The Bills are smart to not overpay but they would be stupid to leave glaring holes on the roster. Hopefully the rest of free agency shakes out positively. -
Andre Holmes claims he isn't signed, Reporters disagree
billsfan89 replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems like a good signing, certainly give the team something at the receiver position. -
Filling the #2 WR via the draft...
billsfan89 replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With very few if any exceptions no matter what team you are, you are going to need at least a few players from your draft class to contribute if you hope to have a winning season. 30 or more teams go into each draft with 3 or more pressing needs at key positions. Right now the Bills have 5 to 7 pressing needs. They need 2 corners, 1 safety, and 2 receivers badly. Right tackle is probably also a weak spot on the roster and Outside linebacker if they let Zach Brown get away is also a spot of concern. Free agency still has viable options out there to fill at least some of those needs. Bringing back Zach Brown helps settle the front 7, there are options at corner available and Jarius Byrd could make for a nice buy low option at safety. Right now the Bills need to pounce on Zach Brown and sign some players available in the secondary because right now even if they found a good receiver and a good corner in the draft they still have too many pressing needs. -
If the bills only sign one more guy pre-draft...
billsfan89 replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zach Brown would be nice to bring back as I think he rounds out our front 7 nicely. But from a pressing needs point of view the team desperately needs corner and receivers and maybe even a safety. Whoever the best corner on the market is that fits the defensive system best would be my bet. Ideally I think the team should bring back Zach Brown to set the front seven and then go after at least 2 players in the secondary where there are still deals to be had, on top of that the team desperately needs a slot receiver. I am fine with going receiver early but the team can have 5+ pressing needs at critical positions going into the draft. -
Wheres the market for Zach Brown?
billsfan89 replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would really like to keep Brown. Not at all costs. Ragland can be the MLB, Spikes anchored that spot in 2014 and I think Ragland is better than Spikes in a lot of ways. But at OLB I don't see much outside of Preston Brown. I am not sure where Lorax fits as I think he is best suited for DE same goes for Shaq. Having Both Browns flank Ragland is a pretty good LB core behind a very good defensive line. Zach Brown gives them a lot better coverage from the lineback position which could be lacking with Ragland and Preston Brown. -
Not a big loss, decent redzone target but I think that the team needed an upgrade at WR over what they had last year which was Hunter, Woods, and Goodwin.

Cowboys DE - Ryan Davis Signs with the Bills
billsfan89 replied to GoBills!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good Depth signing, D-line appears to be uber deep with this addition and the resigning of Lorax. Would love for the team to bring back Zach Brown to round out the front 7 and steady the team at Linebacker. Then the team could maybe try to find a good corner or two before stocking up on offense at the draft.
