DWI back in December. I don't think he fits the process. If the character issues weren't so prevalent I would imagine someone would have kicked the tires.

Ideal Scenario If No Playoffs in 2018?
billsfan89 replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would like to see good player development on both sides of the ball and some optimism at QB. This team could go 6-10 or worse but as long as the younger players on the team improve and you get some decent output at QB. -
They drafted 3 defensive players in the first 3 rounds, so they at least added some young talent to that defense but yeah the defense still lacks talent in several key areas. But the Colts should also be big time players in the 2019 free agency market (they have 63 million in projected space and could easily free up 20+ million in more space if some of their bigger contract players under perform) along with having an extra 2nd round pick in the 2019 draft. So their avenue for improvement beyond this season is very clear. I think their GM had a very clear 3 year plan. Tank 2017 to get a high draft pick (Which they then turned into even more draft capital for both 2018 and 2019) and get Luck healthy then gut the bad contracts from the team and spend smart in free agency in 2018 thus adding some talent here or there but keeping your options very open for 2019. Granted this all hinges on Andrew Luck being healthy but they did their best to protect him by not only sitting him all of last season (Thus taking him out of football for nearly 2 years) but building their offensive line up.
-
The Colts drafted 2 guards high to set up their offensive line and thanks to that trade down they were able to add 3 pieces to their defense high up. They sat Luck for a year to get him healthy and Luck is coming back to a team that is set up to protect him (They also have an extra 2nd next year which sets up another good draft for them.) Luck is too good and too young to not have a successful career. I still think they are a year away from competing (Outside of TY and Ebron there isn't much at the skill positions and their defense needs more help.) But they should be much more competitive with Luck back behind a better O-line and some significant talent added to the defense. But the Colts look to be on the right track, Luck really needed that massive time away from the game to heal and the Colts needed to get in a better position talent wise.

How much longer will we have shady?
billsfan89 replied to Cusefan66214's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think at best Shady has 1 more really good year left. As he gets deeper into his 30's I think he probably will have to be a third down back. I could see Shady falling off big time this year, 30 is a dangerous age for running backs, I think Shady's running style will allow him to be a little more successful than a lot of other backs that hit 30 but I don't see multiple good years remaining. -
??Poyer/Hyde both top 5 coverage grade for S ??
billsfan89 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Star will take up blocks in the run game but he was never a penetrator or interior pass rusher. Kyle last year wasn't much of a pass rusher like he was in years past I think he will help but I don't expect him to be a huge factor in the pass rush. As for Phillips he might be a factor but it's hard to set expectations for a rookie at that draft position. I the pass rush will be improved but it's hard to pinpoint exactly how and where that improvement will come from. Star is the only proven addition to the team and he is much more of a run defender. Murphy is coming off a major injury while the rest of the team returns. -

A volume of mediocrity isn't a great thing to have though, I think at least 1 of those 4 will have a good season. But if none of the 4 will pan out then the pass rush won't be improved much. Star isn't a dominant pass rusher up the middle. He will help improve the run defense for sure. But I wouldn't be counting on Star to get a lot of sacks and pressure. -

billsfan89 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it will improve but I am not sure how much. Shaq is a big question mark, Murphy is coming off of a massive injury, Hughes is coming off his least productive season and a bit older, and Lorax is older and coming off of a bad season. The Bills also took a flyer on that former third-round pick from the Giants who could amount to something but is just a flyer at this point. -

Not sure that the Bills pass rush will be that much better but Murphy won't hurt and I think it is reasonable to expect on of the trio of Lorax, Shaq, and Hughes to have a better season. But the pass rush still is a concern in my mind. -
Dude played till he was 37 hardly a career that ended quickly. But you do have a point in that if he wasn't such a locker room concern and a pain in the ass he probably would have been able to hang around longer, he was still pretty productive his last season.
-
You get exposed to waivers to make the practice squad. Now if you mean that Allen should redshirt this season as the third string QB then you have an argument. Allen in my mind needs a year to work on his footwork and his ability to read a defense. Plus I wouldn't want to put my high draft pick QB behind this offensive line.

I think Tyrod starts 8-10 games at the very least, barring major injury or hideous performance. The Browns have to know that they are a year away at best from serious contention. Letting Tyrod take the pressure of a season off of Mayfield would help his development way too much for them to rush Mayfield in. Now if Mayfield is completely outclassing Tyrod that's a different story but I don't think that will happen.
-
I think there is a good chance Tyrod gets the starting job out there. There is a reason they traded for Tyrod. They began scouring Mayfield and the QB's in January at the latest and they probably knew that none of these QB's were instantly ready to start, there was a reason that they traded for Tyrod wanting a veteran QB.

The Bills were supposed to be tanking trading away Darby and Sammy (And trading down in last years draft) but yet the Bills somehow broke their playoff drought. This off-season they actually sign quality players (Murphy, Star, Davis among others) and landed a top QB in the draft and blue-chip defensive player while still having enough picks left over to grab some depth along the rest of the roster. I think 2018 might be a rough year simply because of the dead cap situation combined with the need to trade up for a QB but I also think that this regime has a plan in place for longer-term competitiveness and has found themselves in a good position year 2 into a 3 year plan. Overall I think this regime should be given the benefit of the doubt with the moves they have made. If 2018 is a complete disaster then we can have a different conversation but until then I think the regime has proven its self.
-
For one I don't think Dez would be interested in the QB situation. Two I think Dez could be a bit of a malcontent if things aren't going well. Overall I just don't see Dez coming here. I would rather the team kick the tires on Eric Dekker or Jeremy Maclin both would be low risk low reward type plays.

5-9: Chris Mortensen on One Bills Live
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sports punditry especially punditry that is highly predictive in nature is far from an exact science. I honestly think you can make a legit case that the Bills have the worst QB situation in the league. Peterman is terrible, AJ is unproven, and Allen might not be pro-ready. I think almost every other team besides Denver in my mind (Not high on Keenum) could be ranked higher at QB. What QB situation would you say for sure is worse than the Bills? Go team by team and you can at least see why people feel that way about the Bills. I think Mort was basically saying that his bottom is more like Jay Cutler than a complete bust. While his higher end could be a top 10-5 QB. I think there is a high bust potential on Allen but Allen and Lamar Jackson both have the highest ceilings in this draft class in my opinion. -
53 seems like a solid score, McCarron seems like he has enough arm strength to get it done but not an elite arm either. McCarron will need good touch and decision making to be successful as his arm can get it done but it won't bail him out of mistake much either. That's my take based off of his scouting reports coming out of college and the takes people have on him after his limited starts in Cincy.

Start Allen from Day 1/ QB competition
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen's accuracy issues could further regress if he doesn't develop good footwork. Playing in front of a bad offensive line and constantly being under pressure is a way to develop bad footwork and having a bad first year can ruin a players confidence. There is so much to lose by playing a raw rookie with a bad surrounding cast (Allen's risk of getting hurt is higher behind a bad o-line.) I would give Allen a chance to win the job but unless Allen completely kills it like Russell Wilson or AJ is just that bad I would do my best to not have Allen start. Throw AJ to the wolves this year, keep Allen on the bench unless necessary. -
Henry has only been in the league 2 years. He had a pretty solid year last year. 576 yards 4 TD's off 45 receptions. All numbers up from the previous years except TD's where he had 8 of those his rookie year. Henry was splitting time with Gates last year so he should be in line for an increase in production.

Do we have the worst QB situation in the league?
billsfan89 replied to Seanbillsfan2206's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"On Paper" this Bills team might have the worst QB situation. But in 2015 when it was Tyrod and EJ Manuel as the QB's it was pretty easy to say the Bills were !@#$ed at QB. But Tyrod played way better than anyone thought he would and we had a decent QB situation. So who knows exactly how it will shake out. -
Who was better when they arrived in Buffalo
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Neither is/was really anything when they arrived. AJ played a little more but didn't light the world on fire in his limited playing time.
