  1. The Dane cut is a positive sign they like the chances for Tre and Mad Max to not miss much if any time. I also think it makes more sense to have Ingram or younger players with more upside making it. But I would like to see Dane on the PS if he clears. Dane's not the worst break glass in case of emergency depth player to have.
  2. The Douglas trade saved the defense in 2023. Douglas while he wasn't great in 2024 he was good in 2023. A 3rd for a 5th swap to get a solid season at corner when that was a glaring in season need is not a waste. People are just looking for something to be wrong if they think AJE and Singletary were wastes of picks too. Cooper was a decent trade at the time, I think he did open up the offense a lot as teams still respected him but if you want to go by pure numbers then I won't argue. Sometimes it feels like fans are just stretching to look for things to complain about. It's not like you can't find some legit wasted picks like Boogie or Elam. But you also could find that with any GM. I get that you want some more home run mid-round picks but getting a solid single in AJE and Singletary does have value.
  3. I wouldn't mind seeing late round picks having some sort of slotted protection for draft picks on the PS or something.
  4. The expansion of the PS to 16 players including up to 4 with more than 2 years accrued NFL experience has made it so that it benefits teams and players to have a basically one round cut process for the most part. You have a 53 man roster plus 16 PS slots. That's 71 roster spots out of 90. So the final cuts mostly come down to teams keeping their core 53 and then trying to get back 13-14 of those players for the PS and then adding 1-3 more from other teams to round out their PS. Whereas in the older rule the PS was only 10 players and only 2 or less seasons. So really the camp cuts being staggered through 4 weeks of pre-season made sense as guys needed the chance to move around onto rosters to try to make their 53 or get on the radar for more limited PS slots. Esp vet guys who couldn't get onto the PS. I also felt like in season vet signings were less common so a lot of guys were feeling like you gotta make it in camp or just sit out the season... One less pre-season game and different PS rules make a big difference.
  5. It's pretty much this, Bills can't afford on the cap a true proven game wrecker. they gotta keep drafting 1-2 D-line players each year to see if they can find a diamond in the rough. I also think they are gonna go after older or injury prone once dominant pass rushers with warts like Bosa and hope maybe you get one great season out of them here or there to fill in the gaps. The Bills actually were just unfortunate with Von because Von in 2022 up until he got hurt (on a rather freak play) was producing like an elite pass rusher despite the rotational snaps. Von's pass rush numbers were up there with Myles Garrett that year despite Von only having played 55% of snaps vs. Myles 75% (of course Von nowhere near the run defender). The Bills really just can't afford to pay retail for a pass rusher, it's either gonna be take swings in the draft or sign upper-mid level older stars like Bosa and hope you get a healthy bounce back season.
  6. Thankfully despite the dings and bruises none of the injuries seem to be season enders other than the SVPG which is more than likely not a season ender. The second pre-season game was woof for various reasons (no starters, flat showing even when backups were playing backups, and the joint practice Friday probably wasn't helpful) but I think coming out with a strong pre-season finale was good for the team mentally. The backups and the few starters that played showed up strong and I think it ends things on a good note. Overall while it has been not an ideal camp/pre-season it is far from a disaster as of now. And with just under 2 weeks before the season starts there's still healing time for these players.
  7. Trubisky was in the wedding party, he's very close with Josh so I really think he's gonna be the firm backup. I think largely the reason Beuchele played the whole game was so that they could get as much tape on him as possible to see who is gonna make the PS. Mike White has a lot of tape as he's started 7 games in the NFL and played in pre-season for various teams. Beuchele doesn't have as much film out there on an NFL level.
  8. Fred Smoot has been retired for years? That being said the Bills got a big upgrade from 2024 Von to Bosa even if Bosa's lost half a step. I also think Hoecht coming in for Smoot is a big upgrade as well once his suspension is lifted and I would like to see what Solomon has in that role as well.
  9. You want some of your rookies (typically the guys drafted in rounds 1-3) to make an impact. Typically if you could get 1-2 guys to start as rookies effectively and another 2-3 to come in as role players you are sitting pretty. But if you have 7 picks and 1 guy is a starter and 2 guys are role players that leaves 4 guys that are going to need to develop for a year or two. I am not going to say that I am not disappointed that Jackson is thus far looking like he might not be able to take on the 4th DE in rotation role that Smoot had last year as a rookie. But I would much rather the Bills have taken a "freak" athlete at a premium position who might need a year or two to develop into a starter in a draft where they went into it having 4 quality DE's on the roster (Groot, Bosa, AJE, and Hoecht) and a 2nd year mid-round pick also in the wings for depth.
  10. Groot, Bosa, Hoecht and even AJE all had to learn to use their bodies, adjust their weight/body for the NFL level, or learn to grow into their bodies at the NFL level. Jackson has a good group of guys to learn how to use his physical tools at the NFL level. A lot of the 2022 picks besides Benford didn't make much of an impact. Shakir was buried on the depth chart on a team desperate for WR's besides Diggs, Cook was a role player (a good one but not that much better than Davis was this past year), and Bernard was a non-factor. Sometimes guys need a year to "get it".
  11. It was a big time clutch play, was it the most all time clutch defensive play the Bills have ever seen? No. But it would be remembered as a big clutch moment defensively to give Josh the ball back only down 3 instead of 7 which is a big difference. It kept 4 points off the board in the closing minutes of a game.
  12. Kind of crazy how fast camp/preseason went. I know it is one less pre-season game but it felt like it just flew by and now we are in the bye week leading up to week 1! Summer is almost over and we are heading into fall and football!
  13. Had the Bills been able to score a TD on that last drive against KC (or kick a field goal and win in OT), the Jordan Phillips play to end the drive and force a field goal on KC's last offensive drive would be considered one of the most clutch defensive plays in Bills playoffs history. I love me some Jordan Phillips so give me his 3 good games before he gets hurt!
  14. I think they will have SVPG on the PUP plus Larry O and Hoecht on Suspension. I also think they will consider Samuel on IR if he's banged up. So they "53" is looking more like a 56-57 haha.
  15. I would be much more nervous if he wasn't hurt and not getting a chance to practice. I still have my concerns but my concern level is a 4 out of 10 whereas had he not been hurt it would be pushing a 8-9 out of 10.
  16. Mostly marginal camp fodder guys, the rounds of releases basically being only 1 round is a lot less interesting in the past where the second round of releases would actually cut players in a more meaningful fashion. Now you basically get a few marginal players in the first round of cuts and then a final round.
  17. I think it’s fine if he has a Shakir like rookie year where he doesn’t make much of an impact the Bills were in a luxury position at DE where they could afford to have a guy with high upside but could maybe use some development. The Bills will have Groot, Hoecht, Solomon, and Jackson heading into next season. There will be a need at DE but not that glaring in my opinion. Simply put I would much rather they have taken a player with a high ceiling like Jackson who may not contribute right away over a lower ceiling prospect who maybe could contribute more his rookie year
  18. I think Walker in his rookie year is a 3 tech, similar to Jordan Phillips, he doesn’t have the lower body strength to consistently be a running game anchor. But if he can stay healthy and work on his lower body strength I think in year two he’s gonna be a beast. In year 1 him being a solid 3 tech rotation player is a nice find
  19. Hitting 3 for 4 after coming back from injury seems fine to me. Context matters. Glad he got a lot of work in.
  20. Hopefully a better showing from the backups in preseason calms everyone down
  21. Cap wise there's just no reason to get rid of Samuel and I think he could be productive if healthy and placing him on the PUP for 6 weeks and cutting Moore in season seems viable.
  22. Shavers has to make the 53. I think the best idea is to have Samuel start the season on the PUP and have Moore and Shavers be the back two WR's and see how they battle it out the first 6 weeks of the season.
  23. Ciarlo and Gore Jr seem like good PS guys. You need some "try hard" high character guys on the PS and if they make the roster they will be likely in niche and reserve roles that they might not be completely be in over their heads but clearly aren't full time NFL players.
  24. It's a new season so past success is not indicative of future results. I think "rolled" is a bit of an exaggeration but I could see a loss. The Ravens are very talented and I think some fans (myself included although I am know I am just getting in my head) are just feeling a little ominous about the camp injuries and the lackluster showing in the pre-season. Now I am willing to toss the pre-season we all know that's just fans getting antsy but the camp injuries just seem like a bad omen to me. I know the injuries have thus far luckily not been season enders but it just feels like the team is really banged up for some reason. I don't know maybe there's just too much information out there. If Shakir is good to go week 1, Tre's injury just needs a week to heal, Mad Max comes back early in the season, and the team doesn't have much else injury wise that should hurt them out the gate. Yes Samuel being banged up might hurt the WR core a bit but Samuel wasn't much of a factor last season and I am bummed about SVPG maybe missing the year or starting on IR the depth on the interior with Anderson isn't bad. I think fans just see the Bills list of injuries and follow it so closely that it makes us nervous.
  25. Based on what? We don't really know if other teams would have taken Keon. The Chargers and Pats both took WR's several picks afterwards in early round 2. The Colts took a WR at pick 52. The Bills didn't pick again until pick 60. So there's 3 teams that would have likely considered taking Keon plus a Jets team that took a WR at pick 65 and likely would have considered trading up. I don't know it's just so hard to tell unless you have every teams draft board.
